Between Onin's historic victory over MkLeo, Maister's historic game win with Sora, the bevy of upsets, intense down-to-the-wire finishes, and brutal cuts of some of Ultimate's top players, there's plenty to go over. If we attempted to break down everything that happened over the weekend, this video would be hours long so instead join us as we recap SSC 2022's Top 8 as well as the biggest breakout performances that took place!

The Verdant story at the end was such a lovely addition to the video. It’s always nice to see that outside of the top echelon of players there are still smaller, more humble stories that mean the world to certain players. Always good to get a reminder that placing somewhere like top 128 or whatever can be just as meaningful to some as winning the entire tournament, honestly makes competing worthwhile at any level.

MFA, an Olimar player from Reno (best player in Reno), beat 0mart, eliminated Marss from the tournament at 65th, beat Inkling player Colorondo8, and then lost (for the second time) to Aaron to get 33rd, which is a pretty good run considering MFA was seed 93.

Sad that you didn't talk about Raflow, France's 16 yo prodigy that always had trouble to perform in NA until SSC 2022, where he reached top 32 defeating PGRU NA players Scend and Big Boss, and losing last hit situation against Elegant for 25th. Raflow always struggled with the pressure of performing overseas and we can now hope that with his great run at SSC 2022, he'll be able to show the world how good he really is consistently. Raflow and all of BMS Crew will be at Rise'n'Grind so keep an eye on them :)

Onin won and 3-0 MKLeo. Sure, he won it all and he's 16 so it's impressive. But I'd be MIND BLOWN if it was with any character other than Steve. That's just the honest truth. If he did it with Yoshi or Falco I'd be like "OMG, HOW DID HE DO THAT!?"

Regardless on how much we all hate Steve, Onin still beat multiple top players at an extraordinary young age and has done better than most players will ever be able to say they have done in there entire lives. the kid his cracked regardless of the fact he plays a strong irritating character

This was the first s tier major post lock down where Leo (when he attended) was kinda a non factor in the finality of the tournament. Onin beating him 3-0 definitely adds to the story but Leo is usually everyone’s bracket demon where as he definitely seemed off. Not sure if this is a sign of things to come or if leo will bounce back stronger than ever, on one hand I want him to return with a vengeance but on the other I’m always for seeing new people at the top

I just cannot bring myself to say "Steve is Bayo 2! Onin is winning undeservedly! Ult is DYING!" That said, I really do not like watching Steve in tournament, much less playing against him, and if nothing else he's probably solidified himself as the best in the game. Also, there is a very *coincidental* parallel between the youth of Steve players today and the youth of Bayo players back then, in both instances younganns just showed up and beat tons of top players. Just an observation.

Because the youth prefer the easy way than the harder way and think thats everything should be easy to get. When they face a wall, they scrumble... Onin dont even pratice that much and severely carried by Steve

Nah he's damage controlling. Mkleo obviously didn't lose his steam LOL DAFUQ, he lost to a broken character. Yeah I know Mkleo also said himself he played like crap.....I'd cap too if I was Mkleo lol. Imagine if you was really trying and some 16yr kid smoked you THEN didn't even pop off, like as the best player in the world you'd expect to get popped off on but nah he just gave him a fist bump like he was trash LMFAOOOO. Anyway I like HBOX but he's also a Smash figure head and they're on damage control right now.....why you may ask....well Steve is broken, Multiversus is gaining more popularity, it's in Evo unlike Smash, and we don't know if Sakurai is gonna nerf Steve or not. All of this crap about giving it more time to learn the match up is the dumbest thing ever because it's a 2 way street lol, they make it seem like the meta just stops for Steve while everyone else just adapts and gets better in a training montage......like this is some anime LMFAOOOO. Steve's will also improve and counter adapt.

So glad that Onin was able to use such an objectively low tier character and run with it as far as he did. For all of the top players in the game, players like Onin don't get enough credit for pushing past the physical limits of a fundamentally flawed character and sending huge waves through the meta. I remembered how the crowd stood in disbelief as MKLeo fell to a matchup which favored his main in every way, it was magical. Great job to Onin, he stuck to his guns and persevered to the very end

I can't wait to see your video on Regalo. Please mention Nitox too! A lot of Americans are mispronouncing their names. Regalo which means gift in Spanish is (Rey-gah-lo) also/or (ray.gal.lo) and Nitox is pronounced like (knee.tox) and/or (knit.tox). If you're saying (regg.ga.lo) or (ny.tox) you're saying it wrong, but no one is really wrong though it's just a preference.

For all the Steve haters: Steve is a powerful character that is difficult to learn how to fight but he's not unstoppable at this point in the meta. I hate fighting Steve mains as much as the next guy but he's no Brawl Meta Knight or Smash 4 Bayonetta. I would like to see those asking for a ban to find success at a high level of play

I’m hoping the large amount of Steve players will inspire more people to pick up Pokémon trainer. I don’t play that character but enjoy watching them and after DDee vs Jake I’d like to think they keep Steve in check.

I dunno, people keep saying this, but I don't think this is true. Relative strength is the thing that's really what matters. Sure, Steve can't 1 shot you as easily as Bayo, nor does he have the same options as Metaknight, but I should remind everyone that some of Metaknight's techs were banned (infinite dimensional cape), furthermore, by the time they tried to ban him, too many players played him so it didn't work. In Smash 4, a lot of characters had some really busted 1-2 touch of death combos, especially with rage, so even though bayo had the most and hers are the best, a lot of characters were busted. Steve does not need to be unstoppable to be banned, because of course Steve is stoppable. Metaknight and Bayo were beatable as well. All you have to do is not lose neutral 7 times, let him get out of disadvantage for free (don't challenge anvil), time minecart counters perfectly, and approach him around a literal physical wall while he mines up his own Arsene/Go Meter. There isn't a single top competitor that doesn't USE Steve that doesn't think he's way overpowered. The only people that are saying this are people who do not play competitively.

Well when players like Glutonny agree that they should/could have done better but they STILL think Steve has busted moves, I do feel like a nerf is needed. Unless, of course, Steve defenders want to argue they know better than top players 🤨
