Looking up the etymology, "ör" is an old Swedish word for "pebble". Thus the name means "pebble bridge", in early medieval times it used to be a fording place (not a proper bridge), thus the name.

Made my day, being a resident of Bro 😂 realizing this was three years ago and a little late to the party. Bro actually means Bridge in Swedish FYI. Too bad you didn't spot any signs on the highway for where police do speeding controls as speed is "fart" in Swedish so the sign says Fart Control 😂 anyway, fun video. I live only about 500m from where the Bro sign was, then again, Bro is so small most people live about 500m from that sign 😂

Signs like these are always a source of merriment. My personal favorite is a Norwegian sign for the village "HELL". I have a texan friend who can't avoid a smirk every time he sees a sign saying "UTFART" (Swedish for exit). Even in the local langauge these signs can be fun, north of Gävle there is a sign that says "KROGEN" which basically translates to "the club."

My aunt lives in that town! It is really cool that you were there in that small town of all places in Sweden in late febuary 2017. I was there sometime around march that same year and I'm sad that I didn't have the opportunity to meet you, I'm a big fan.

Bants is When you're out with the Lads on the town, having an absolutely top notch time until about two, when Charlie says he's hungry and wants to go to KFC. Now Charlie is a top lad, but Matt is just the Archbishop of Banterbury, and he suggests you go for a Cheeky Nandos. Obviosly this is agreed by everyone, and you say "lets smash it"

A Number of years ago my dad and I were driving through Sweden and we saw a sign for "Mörkö", which in Swedish means "dark island" and in my native Finnish it translates to some kind of creepy ghoul or monster. Mörkö is an even smaller place than Bro and we didn't stop there, but it was kinda funny at the time.

+Tusenbensen English doesn't have the exact equivalent of that phoneme, afaict. It's a close back rounded vowel. And its proper IPA representation is indeed /bruː/. You may be thinking of the near close central rounded vowel with deceptively similar spelling in 'bru' (IPA /brʉː/)
