In August, we visited the Douro Valley for the first time but only for a day. This time we visited in late October, just after harvest and in the midst of the leaves changing colors. We also were able to stay 3 days and 2 nights in the Douro Valley, so the slower pace plus having Kalie's parents along with us, made a massive difference.
We visited the small town of Amarante, which is located about 45 minutes from Porto. In Pinhão, we went to Quinta do Bonfim, which is a Symington family winery, had a fantastic meat filled lunch in town, then finished it off on a 1 hour boat ride up and down the Douro.
Our two nights were spent resting and relaxing at the 5 star Douro41 Hotel, which has some incredible views of the river along with plenty to do just at the hotel for a few days.
On the last day of our trip, we visited a vinho verde vineyard called Aveleda, which is one of the biggest in Portugal. We finished off our tour with a little wine and cheese at Quinta da Tapada, which makes some of the best flamengo cheese in the whole country. They have a wide variety of cheese flavors along with their own vinho verde (green wine).
