Harden your place! I am in security and with that said you should have hurricane windows and doors, alarm system, camera system. Even an inexpensive system like ring that has a quality video and really time alerts on your phone will help you be ready. Walk through the home checking to make sure every entry point in the home including windows is secure I a must before you leave or turn in. Activating your alarm when home or away. Never taking the same route anywhere. Parking your vehicle in the garage and setting the garage door sensor at a higher level. Hardening primary bedroom door is an excellent idea too and keeping it secure when inside the room should be a routine in your day to day life. Get a Glock 17; it has 17 rounds in the mag plus 1 in the chamber.
