Hello, author here! Thank you so much for the narration Stephen; you have no idea how excited seeing this in my feed made me. I've been an aspiring writer for quite some time and this was the first short story I ever submitted. It was rejected by about 12 publications before I kind of abandoned it in my files for three years. As I'm trying to be published again, I wanted to see what people would think of my earliest attempt - readers not editors. I never expected this when I submitted this to nosleep, but this is a dream come true. You did so good and I feel honored. Thank you Stephen, and to everyone else: enjoy and I hope to be telling you more stories soon. Dawson Balencia~

The ones about the ocean or the abyss are my favorite. I also like Eldritch Horror styled stories. Both are fascinating because instead of shock factor they tackle the unknown. Yeah but somethings bite in the ocean 🤷‍♀️ or sting - I was in the ocean and had an immenssssse pain shot through my leg. Omg it was bad. I was carried to the shore. It was a tiny purple hole that didn’t bleed but the pain was intense. Not like everyone had to get out of the ocean for it. Same day my dad was bumped hard it almost knocked him over, he grabbed the littler kids and held them as high as he could in his retreat to shore. It’s the ocean 🤷‍♀️

I was JUST sayin' how weird ocean life is, including Promachoteuthis sulcus (a squid with human-like teeth, wtf even is that) and Sheepshead fish. A fish with multiple rows of human teeth. They're just unsettling. Don't think either of them scream or babble like humans though. I'm not a marine biologist though, so don't quote me on that.

Funny short story that goes along, i lived in Honolulu when i was 13/14. In the Summer, we would get on my parents smallish sail boat. We would sail for about an entire day until we lost sight of all land for a day. We'd drop anchor and "camp" in the middle of the ocean. It's a surreal experience to say the least. The water is the exact same color blue as the sky. So you look down and you can't tell how fast down you can see but you know it's extremely fast down. Point of the story is when you inevitably jump in, your mind can't fully process what happens next. On a clear skyless day with no motion in the water, you float and when you look into the distance, you can't really tell if you're in the ocean you're floating in the sky. The only thing that levels you out or enables you to keep your sanity is the water making you wet. Even than, at least it did for me every time we went out for the week, you have a period of time where your mind can't differentiate between the 2. The first few times i freaked out and see many a person do the same. The only group of people i saw it have no effect on was a group of NAVY SEALS. My mom and step dad were lifer navy people so they had Navy men and women of all sorts. I even saw 1 navy man get partially bothered. He didn't freak as i did but you could see the unease cross his face is only for a few moments. This story just reminded me of those trips

If you understand evolution then you’d know that’s impossible we’ve all become human not Human “tadpoles”. It’s like burning wood and expecting there to still be lumber after. It’s become ash it’s how it works. If you want a fish that’s evidence of evolution look up a Axolotyl I think is how you spell it is a fish in the process of becoming a salamander “not scientifically just physically”. Or there’s arapaima. If you understand it there’s probably 3-5 pieces of evidence in your living room as house plants. But sadly it’s just a theory because we can’t recreate it so we can’t prove anything just observe and hypothesis over the patterns. But humans most definitely came from a ape. What little science we know shows were in the primate family and it’s impossible to hop family’s so we’re in fact relatives of apes at the least.

okay so a disturbing fish fact: There are indeed fish that have teeth that're uncannily similar to human teeth. Triggerfish use said teeth to crush coral, and then there is the pacu, a mostly herbivorous cousin to the more infamous pirhanna, in their native Amazon habitat they're peaceful chunguses. But in New Guinea, where they are invasive, the pacu has eaten so much vegetation that it ran outa food and decided to use its human like teeth to dine on everything else: baby crocs, baby ducks, some poor man's crotch. Firgured I'd drop these facts after hearing about the first attack in the story, in order to unease anyone who had doubts of how this could happen in the ocean, which it can.

I enjoyed this story a lot. We don't know everything about our waters as only 10% has been investigated. I have to admit I thought the girl had been bitten by a mer person, hence human teeth. But no one truly knows the waters true depths and what lies beneath. Brilliant narration as always.

I failed the lake checkout for a divers license. It was the black depth of water beneath me. I get claustrophobic above ground. Go figure. Could not breathe.

As a coastie, this was a fun story. I'm not too fond of swimming in the ocean but I love rivers and lakes. Every body of water has it's dangers...it may not be a weird species of fish but the unknown is the true monster. Educate yourself as much as possible. Also, don't turn your back on logs (even if water isn't near) and don't go near cool/pretty/mysterious rocky areas.

I've always been afraid 😨 of the water since my older sister threw me off the dock at the Tulalip Bay when I was about 7 years old and said sink or swim, I was terrified but without realizing it I started the doggy paddle

I was about the same age when some older girls pulled me into the deep end of the community pool. I made it to the edge of the pool. I stayed away from the older girls after that.

Wait that’s really weird actually, the myth book said we originated in the ocean. But uh…. All life on this planet evolved out of the ocean. That’s a really strange coincidence.

The funny thing about the bite on the girl is that it _can_ be attributed to a fish. A species of fish exists that has creepily similar teeth to a human mouth.

I'm not one who like the ocean I almost drowned when I was 11. I fell asleep on a raft n floated to far. The swim back got me so tired I almost just gave up to obviously die.. I had no more strength to get back to shore and so much water in my mouth It was overwhelming I kept choking on water. I got a sudden rush of something and I made my way to the ropes that were dividing the side of beach and I pulled myself back to shore my mom didn't believe me till she saw a boat pull up my float and bring it back to us. It was a bad day. I couldn't wait to go home n forget about the whole thing. I much rather swim in a pool now...
