I've seen this Japanese girl who lives in Japan and talks about the misogyny/sexism in Japan (Notions like "women shouldn't work" aren't that uncommon...) to bring awareness to it, and people hate on her SO MUCH because for some reason people are convinced that Japan is the perfect country, Japan fanatics are like a cult
@Moon1tan
@Moon1tan 3 жыл бұрын
@@NA-yq4pe God the problem against women in Japan doesn't stop there There's this whole thing with the age of consent that affects how a lot of underage girls are getting sexually assaulted or harassed daily, and the fact that women can't inherit things if their family has real estate, business or money so her parents would rather adopt a dude that she marries into their family so he can legally inherit what was meant for the daughter I love anime and do want to visit Japan one day but ignoring or denying the flaws is not something that should be acceptable cuz it can be applied to any country anyway

Yeah it's so annoying. Especially hardcore weebs or people who think "the west is full of SJWs wahh" idolise Japan. Like, jesus, it's fine to like a country *and* acknowledge it's flaws. There are so many things flawed about Japan, and so many things they do well. I think the same about the Netherlands, where I live. Always so black and white to them.

Feeling so lucky as of 2020 bro. Grew up on dial up until I got ADSL with a whopping 1-2mbps down and ~0.5 up on a good day. Yes - MBPS. Then I moved to Sydney and got what I thought was the most amazing internet ever - 12/1.5. Moved again in 2018 and got 40/1.5 on an ancient Optus cable line and although the upload was still pathetically 1.5 even though I was running fiber to the premises, I was still happy as hell with 40mbps download. Then in 2020 I moved into this place. I didn't even check the internet setup before moving as shit internet is just something you come to expect living in Australia. Well turns out we have fibre to the premises from before Liberal scrapped the old school NBN plans - CONSTANT 100/40 without a single drop out in 18 months (and 6 ping in Rocket League lmao) as well as ethernet plugs on the wall, wired to every room! It may not sound like much to many outside of Australia, but to us this is unheard of! Even planning on upping the speed to 250/40 once they change the next tier from 250/25 to 250/40.

49:40 They speak on how Disney has recognized Studio Gibli and such. I wanted to point out to the boys because it's not actually that well known unless you are in the animation world itself. But For a long period of time when Disney and Ghibli switched to proper digital animation they actually both chose to use the same software called Toonz and after some time, Studio Ghibli released their own version of the software called OpenToonz, which a lot of studios today actually use. This includes 2 movies animated by Disney themselves. Ghibli and Disney have a somewhat long history together, Hayao Miyazaki even being referred to as the Walt Disney of Japan. It's quite amazing really. :3

The first time I ever lived on my own was in Japan and let me tell you, the bureaucratic trauma is REAL. when I went back to my home country for the summer two years later my mom was moving, and said I needed to change my legal address and I was stressed af by the idea of that because I was working on weekdays etc,. and she was so confused and reminded me I could just do it on our national postal service website, and it took 2 minutes. Having access to online banking back in my home country also saved my ass on multiple occasions. During the pandemic I've been lucky to live at home and have saved money for a buffer account for when I move out again, and I was telling my mom I wanted to save enough money to be able to break an apartment contract (if necessary), pay for my deposit and key money, and she was like "key money? wtf is that?" I forgot it's non-existent outside of Japan (and I think SK?) I dread almost any process like that now because it did in fact take up so much time in Japan, I had to plan my school sick days around it. Still loved living there though.

I feel like one of the reasons why weebs overseas don't spend as much money on merch and figurines is because they are more work to get in other countries, and a lot of weebs are still closeted, meaning they can't buy physical items without their family/friends finding out. Anime games and v-tubers are way easier to pay for without anyone finding out about it, making it much more accessible to overseas weebs. I can confirm because I am a closeted weeb not living in Japan who has spent at least some money on anime games.

When talking about modern Japan historians talk about two things; the Economic Miracle, and the sudden stagnation at the end of the 1980s. When it comes to the causes of the stagnation they like to talk about fiscal and monetary policy. But after listening to Trash Taste for the last year I think Japanese corporate culture is an under-valued cause of the stagnation. Just imagine how much economic growth potential is being hindered by these restraints, most of which, I'm guessing, are not legally mandated.

btw pocket WiFi is called Wi-Max and it is faster than 4G (LTE), it doesn't exist in Europe and is not common in US but in Japan they invested a lot on the technology (you have to put one or more towers in each city and those are expensive). It works really well, they have this tech from more than 10 years and it has great coverage. You kids. I lived there in the late 80's. Dial up internet and you can only get a phone line if you BUY IT FROM SOMEONE ELSE. But the banks are about the same. And I worked for a big company. That was a true Joy.

When connor was talking about times when you're so sad that you just sit there and let it soak in. *HARD* *RELATE* (especially since my phone broke last month and had to live without one for a whole month).

Oh - and the thing about the ATMs after hours is the conbini machines always close after hours. However - if you know where a branch of your bank is they normally are open all the time. I often went to the citibank machine in a booth by the branch near kabukicho at 2 am when I needed more money to drink. There was always a polite elderly security guard by the door, too.

Been in Japan over twelve years, and banking has been one of the most annoying things I have struggled with this entire time! This year though I finally found a bank that has online banking with an English website and I finally have a debit card. Definitely makes certain things a lot easier for me.

We are in THE stone age, people bragging about 5g where in reality having stable 3mbps are not even on the discussion, honestly i live 4 hour from the capital and 1mbps are the staple for high speed internet, and dont even get me going about the crime of site blocking and throttling In other problem do you realize the trends delay are for some reason a thing here?
