Dr. Phil

Yesterday, Dr. Phil spoke with Karen and Jim who claim they are desperate to remove their violent and mooching 31-year-old son, Kyle, from their home. Kyle gave reason after reason why he felt his parents were at fault for his financial situation. Today, Dr. Phil enlists the help of the star of the popular TV show, Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer, to offer advice to Kyle and his parents. Taffer has written a new book, “Don’t ******** Yourself, Crush The Excuses That Are Holding You Back”, and shares with Kyle and his parents the secrets to overcoming the excuses that keep people from being successful. Will Kyle listen to Dr. Phil and Jon Taffer? Will he finally move out of his parents’ house? (2216318RR)

From the age he could earn, while he was a student, he should have had a job, any part time job, and been paying some board. That should never have stopped as long as he lived at home. Offering him a free furnished apartment is not the answer. 'Rent's due Friday' unbelievable.

I know I’ll get slammed for this but I’m going to tell the truth. This is not this kids fault. Period. His body language alone reveals how toxic his family is which is a pathway to low self esteem/depression ect. People are a product of their family system and yes all families are “systems” which have their own rules/ operations ect. His lack of ambition/ drive / whatever you want to call it is merely a SIDE EFFECT of a much bigger issue. The issue is a toxic family system. Period. I see it plain as day.

Not true...many kids grow up without a family - in the foster system or in an abusive situation, and still make something of themselves because they have to. This man knows he doesn't have to do anything. His parents have spoiled him big time. He is an adult. Adults can't blame parents when they refuse to work and take care of themselves. Parents should never have bailed him out of jail.

@justbrilliant9560

Exactly. He’s very depressed. And people here judge left and right without any information about his mental state. The first thing he would need is to see a psychiatrist. How can so many people judge someone they know nothing about? This show doesn’t picture reality, Phil (who is NOT a doctor) decides what he wants the guest to be, he gets one or two pieces of info from his guests and then make a story around it that fits what he wants to talk about and what he knows the boomers will agree with. He doesn’t listen to his guests, doesn’t figure out the problems. Pretends to give the guest exactly what they need but actually gives them some life coach as if it can replace the competent professionals who are actually needed. I can call myself a life coach too without studying a thing, it’s enough to just give pep talks, which only helps someone without disorders, traumas or problems other than they lost some motivation and got stuck and maybe they need to change some paths in their life but they’re too confused to make any decisions, which is just a bump in the road which everyone has sometimes, it’s part of being human, and many people without education can help with things like that

Appalling. While I think the parents are terrific for wanting to help their son, what makes him so special? Why does he not have to work? He’s in his thirties. I held at least two jobs at that point of ,y life AMD paid for my own apartment.

I agree with you. I’ve had a job since I was 20 parents are enabling him for not forcing him to go get a job and he is 30 years old and people like this are getting mad at their parents when their parents are essentially giving them handouts for 30 years.

@@kurtb1234 I keep rewatching this because it’s so intellectually incredible. “I’m not allowed to stay home alone.” Well, I’m not allowed to smoke in my apartment building…so I don’t. (I don’t smoke; it’s just an example.) If it’s a house rule, then you either follow it or move out. Easy as pie.
