While Lola and Penn Charles were off at summer camp, we spent a week together in California glamping and getting lost in the woods. Thank goodness we made it back... seriously. #glamping #summervacation #california
Thanks for being here! We’re Kim and Penn Holderness of The Holderness Family. We create original music, song parodies, and skits to poke fun of ourselves, the world we live in, and (hopefully) make you laugh.

I find it falling down hilarious that three years later, this intrepid, two-bottles-of-water-and-a-candy bar trail-clueless "hiking" duo won The Amazing Race. For reals! Well done, Penn and Kim! :-)

This is a great example of how hiking is not only healthy but leads to moments of realization and serenity as well as beauty. As a Boy Scout I experienced many great moments of camping fun. It was only as a Scout Camp counselor that I had access to electricity in a tent. But even still we were on cots, but they had thin mattresses. Yes, always have to watch out for anything that has “leaves of three, let it be”, Congratulations if you actually made Eagle and respect. During the Hurricane Frederick aftermath you could tell who had scouting experience by how they reacted to the no power no water experience. One of your most beautiful videos. If you are ever in Chicago there are a number of short pretty trails at “The Little Red School House” which is SW of the city in the Cook County Forest Preserves. The nice thing about the trails is that any age can go to them, even Grandparents and toddlers and the walks include a lotto Illinois.specific flowers and plants that are not so widely seen there. The water areas, lake views, are special too. About two hours West and South of Chicago is the Starved Rock State Park (take I-80 West to get there). Not only do they have hotel and camping style rooms but lots of swimming (pool) and wonderful trails along the Illinois River. In areas where the trail is rough there are wood plank roads to help you along and watching posts over the River. After a rain is a wonderful time to go because that charged up the beautiful waterfalls on the trails. We have seen many deer families in the evening. Hope you try it. Very much worth filming. Have to watch tiny kids at a few places on some of the trails but the lodge staff is very good with advice. Speaking of which the food is very good especially the sweet potato chips and fries! Very much enjoying your videos!

ALWAYS pre-download offline maps w/ trails for the area, in multiple apps (google maps, AllTrails, Geocaching, etc), on BOTH phones, w/ battery bank. and maybe a compass and paper map is helpful... and carry extra flashlights, water, food, 1st aid kit (and tecnu etc for poison oak), and emerg blanket!! Signal whistle is helpful also, they often are combos w/ compass and even matches inside.

I am just AMAZED at how city folks are whenever they get away from their big screen TV's, cell service and paved world!! I almost fell out of my chair when I saw them open the flap to the "tent" and there was a queen bed!!! I called down the hall to my wife (who is NOT a camper at all) and told her to come and see. She did and I asked her what she thought of that and she said, "I MIGHT be willing to do that kind of camping!" Again, TO THE FLOOR I WENT!! My wife is the consummate spoiled city slicker. Me? When I was growing up, I would go camping with my Dad and uncle with a couple of my cousins. We would hike about 2 miles into a place where there was a fishing hole. We didn't carry anything, but a sack of potatoes, some corn meal and a small bottle of cooking oil for supper. No sleeping bags or tent, just one army blanket apiece and our fishing poles and worms. If we didn't catch any fish, we ate fried potatoes and hushpuppies. We didn't carry anything to drink even, just some coffee and a pot to fill with water from the fishing hole (it had a creek that ran through it). We didn't sleep much, we sat up around the camp fire (so "fire pit") or did some late night fishing in the hole. Primitive and some of the best memories of my childhood. I'm glad that you guys named it "GLAMping"!

I lived in Sonoma county(wine country/NorCal) for about 2 years. Moved out there with a guy I had just met 2 years older than me at 18 like 3 or 4 months after we met. Most amazing place I've ever been! I mean I was living out of my car, with a ft job thank u, for about 10 months of those 2 years. Spent a few months in the woods in a tiny river town that this glamping reminds me of so much! Granted it was in a leaky rv that was so moldy I left sick af(bronchitis for about 2 mo bc no medical insurance). That was the end of car living tho. We got what we lovingly referred to as the shoe box bc that's how small it was. Old army barracks that were converted to Apts lol. Was super lonely so we moved back home (Minnesota) shortly after my 20th bday. It was the most insane thing I think I've ever done but I'd do it over again. Now 18 yrs later( so old 😱😭) still in Minnesota married to that same stranger who I ran off with with a house we actually bought not 7 miles from where I grew up with our one and only child who starts kindergarten tomorrow 😱. Life sure is a crazy ride

PSA for anyone who’s not an experienced hiker- they literally did everything you’re not supposed to do hiking and actually are lucky they survived. I’m from the area and sadly a hiker died last month (March 2024) because she like fell off a cliff. Even as an experienced hiker, please don’t get off trail! Just go back to camp or do something else if the trail ends suddenly. Plus, it hurts the wildlife of the area to go off trail.

Aw that made me jealous!! I want to go camping (not clamping...that’s silly) and adventuring through awesome forests accross freezing streams now. (Gata admit I laughed really hard when you commented on the size of the waves...welcome to the west coast)

Not gonna lie. That looks like a pretty freaking awesome "glamping" trip. We didn't have anything like that in my six years in Boy Scouts. Kinda jealous a bit. Kinda.
