Tula's Endless Summer

Жыл бұрын

A year ago we were driving cross country in our truck camper rig exploring the land based side of things this country has to offer. Of you told us then what we would be doing now we would not have believed you. However, with more delays to our catamaran build a lot quickly transpired leading to exactly where we are today and we couldn't be happier. Canada by trawler has been absolutely incredible and we've only just scratched the surface.

Spot shrimp live 350ft to 425ft deep. I commercial shrimp in prince William sounds for years. Get some fresh fish parts guts and heads work fine in the bottom of your trap for them to eat on and soak your shrimp pellets with herring oil to attract them with the smell. The hotter it is outside the deeper they tend to live. Good luck next time shrimpin.

Making me salivate. Shrimp/prawn deep and moving water. It is a matter of right place and right time. Sport crab pots will net Dungeness on overnight soaks almost always. Jigging for Red Snapper and Halibut is a blast. Find holes/wallows with a depth finder and float over with the current and jig the bottom. Careful with the halibut. Too big can be TOO BIG.

If you were trying to catch spot prawns, you need to target 250' of water normally in an area with current. There is a good book by John Martinis. Great video as always
@brendabourns6004
@brendabourns6004 Жыл бұрын
But if there is current, you need to make sure it is under a knot or it will pull your buoy under. Also need extra weight to keep the trap from walking due to all the force of the current on 300 feet of line. It's very easy to lose a pot due to too little weight/too much current.

Two problems:. 1) Wrong color bouys. Red and white is crab. You need yellow for prawns/shrimp. 2) You need more weight. The tides will move your pots to deeper water and you'll lose them. Weight them down with weights they sell at the marine store. Use coated weights.

Prawns are REALLY deep. At least 200ft down minimum, 300 is usually better. rarely you can get prawns shallower, but, not many. I cheat, I have my grandfathers old maps with where the prawns are and where they are... not. I have never understood why they exist in some regions with pots so full I could not get them onboard(not a joke) and there are others a few hundred feet away at same depth where not a single prawn is to be found.
