also wanted to share that we live in a society and an economy that actively benefits from us thinking we are not enough so remember to practice self care in the form of educating yourself on this and being aware that feeling down about our bodies/productivity/etc is by design!
@adriana12995
@adriana12995 4 жыл бұрын
But then it becomes tricky. If you decide that you are enough, it can trick you into thinking you don’t have improve in any way possible and that no one can ever give you constructive criticism because they should already think you are perfect. Instead of telling people that they are enough or that they are never enough, I think we should look at it as a balance. You shouldn’t see yourself in such a low way that you feel like you are worth nothing but you also shouldn’t see yourself as perfect and as someone who doesn’t need to grow in any way. In other words, be aware of the good things about yourself while also working on ways in which you can be better. Complaining about how society tells us that we are never enough is counterproductive can lead us to stunt our own growth as human beings because “how dare they say I’m not enough! I’m perfect and I am enough and I don’t have any room for improvement! I have reached my peak as a human!” That’s not good.

Thank you for this video, Jenny. I have spent some of today screwing my eyebrows together and dwelling on things that are either out of my control or things that I've said or done which I let myself dwell on as a form of self-punishment. Just an hour ago I stopped myself in my tracks and just had the thought that I simply didn't want to feel bad today. I wanted to feel differently and act on wanting to feel differently, which centered my mind on the idea of self-compassion. I think now more than ever, especially for those of us who struggle with mental conditions, to practice radical compassion towards ourselves. This looks different from person to person, but part of it for me is recognizing that I am doing and have done so much more than I give myself credit for, whether that be literal work or emotional work. I am worthy of the same compassion that I give others! All of us are!

People need to stop over analyzing what “self care ” is supposed to be or look like, it’s whatever FEELS right. Don’t always buy crap based of what people tell you to. Some products or practices work for some, some don’t. You’re right about listening to your intuition. Great video Jenny, you broke it down Perfectly! take care and be safe! ❤️

Right! Like those makeup videos and skincare vids! Especially the Vogue ones. It’s like this isn’t for everyone you have to find out what works for your body and for your budget. No ones skin,body, mind are the same. I think it’s easy for us to forget that sometimes especially due to all of the “influence”.

this!!!!! i would definitely recommend reading Women Who Run With The Wolves. it was an absolutely life changing book for me and i think every single woman (or person) should read it. it discusses how far removed we are from our true womanly natures through social programming, and i think that's why "self care" resonates with so many women because its a socially acceptable return of sorts to our true natures or an acceptable nourishing of the soul. the book is fabulous and enlightening, and a really important thing to read as we are likely about to move into a world that needs to be recreated for the better!!! sending good energy :)

Lmao I used to do marketing for an organic skincare company and...let’s just say it’s all a fluffy retail gimmicks. ESPECIALLY the organic/natural/clean beauty companies that mislead the masses with the whole ~all chemicals are bad~ rhetoric. I got so fed up I decided to leave the advertising industry all together LOL

i got out of a two year long abusive relationship and the part about boundaries really spoke to me..recognizing that even if i feel some measure of connection to the future i thought we would have, that relationship prevents me from being emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy. i finally released myself from the toxicity and it was the greatest act of love towards myself. i am proud of the strength i didnt realize i had even sixth months ago.

just got out of a 2 1/2ish years long emotionally abusive relationship myself! I was engaged to a person who I knew would continue to hurt me forever if I stayed, so I left. at the time I was just using “toxic” to describe them, but just this week starting saying “abusive”. that in itself was such good self care, I felt like I finally got to breakthrough that gaslighting that it “wasn’t as bad as I thought” and that I “shouldn’t have made it work”. every time you look yourself in the eye and stand firm that what happened actually happened, and that you are valid for taking care of yourself, that’s not just self care, it’s the ultimate act of self love. it’s a hard thing going through process of unpacking everything and healing and coping, but I’m sending you love, as a person whos going through it too 🖤

Sometimes we resist what we need most. I love how you identified that as an ego thing but I think you hit the nail on the head by associating it with comfort. I think its so important to realize in order to grow we have to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones. That's what makes it difficult and rewarding.

I am also guilty of letting my ego get in the way of bettering myself. It’s always like a “well what if this time next year I need to still be this way to make other people happy”. It’s super frustrating, but I still feel like it’s true. I want to stay connected to my current self and the best I can be self. Finding that line has proven to be difficult.

AHHH! I love this video and this message. I think its so important for this to be talked about and mentioned with all the advertising we see everyday. against all odds, i have learned self care from our boss at work - i used to seriously push myself to a point of exhaustion until i started working with him and my current team. he would be very rigid about setting boundaries and recognizing when enough is enough, and very encouraging of us to admit when we are not doing okay and need a time-out. as someone that has been working and supporting myself since i was 16 for me taking time to myself was inexcusable. i am glad that over the years i have managed to change that. self-care doesn't always mean face masks and scented candles, often times it is taking the time to sit down and reflect, and hear yourself out. you owe it to yourself whenever you want it. :)

Fuck man it's truly a constant struggle; my self care for the night was making a cup of tea and watching this video; hearing truths that I believe in but can't believe when it comes to myself. The most critical judge is yourself; your mind knows where to poke and prod & how we hurt...but we must learn to become our own motivators and channel that energy for positivity. even as I'm writing this I feel a little silly because when I try to put ideas like these into words it always feels dwindled down once the words are in front of me. Gotta find some way to live in The Mystery + self care is a huge aspect of that. thank you ! nyc sisters 4 lyfe

It's also important to bring up waste & plastic when it comes to self care. Some companies and products are not looking out for the environment or other living beings at all and it's important to care about that as well. Buying things in reusable glass, making your own face masks at home, and buying vegan&cruelty free items are all ways we can help the earth we live on.
