First look at the Weatherby Vanguard 2 in .300 Win Mag. We will be breaking in the Weatherby barrel and putting the factory claim of less than .99 MOA to the test!

My gun is one of the older ones with a single stage trigger and it'll poke a single jagged hole at 100 yards and I ain't wasting good ammo for no barrel break in. I do reload my own precision ammo for each individual rifle that I have, and it's very rewarding.

So far the only thing I don't like about it is availability of aftermarket parts. I will have the full review out soon and will detail all the pros and cons. If I had to choose between the Howa and a Weatherby I would choose they Weatherby. As you may know the actions are the same, however the Weatherbys have better finish work that really shows with how smooth everything operates. That and Weatherbys customer service is top notch!

I’ve been eyeing a Weatherby vanguard sporter in 30.06 with a 24 inch barrel. I reload so I will probably push 165 grain Nosler partition through it!

She has been shooting for years; as you can see in my other videos. She wanted to try it without any recoil pad.

Great! But it's your job to know not to let her. Would you let her jump off a cliff just because she wanted to? Probably not. Bet you'd do everything you could, to first talk her out of it. Same thing here. I don't care how much she shoots ( I have watched some of her shooting) and this cannon was too big for her. Stop trying to justify your mistake. Be a man and own up to it. All of us see the pain in her eyes and on her face. You did too. Own up to your mistake!

The 300 Win is a bit of a barrel burner. You have about a 1200 round accuracy life. However its doesn't hold a candle to 7mm Rem Mag which can burn out a barrel in as little as 700 rounds.

So how do you account for the fact that my pre64 Win Mod 70 in .270 still shoots MOA at 100yds and it was made in s1953? Practically same muzzle velocity as your 7mag. I'm sure it's had more than 700rds through it. I've probably put 300 through it since I've owned it (1990's).

Nice shooting..I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 308 and one in 30-06 (Remington green box in 30-06 is more accurate that the Hornady), a Ruger M77 in 308, a Tikka 3 Hunter in 308 and a couple of Marlins, one in 30-30 and one in 45-70-Tried Hornady SST and Custom in ALL of them! Not that accurate...gotta stay with Federal Premium....Thanks for the vid...

Hunter Leonard If its chambered for a magnum cartridge its internal.

You can get a removable mag for them. 5 round and 10 I believe.

Does your rifle have a free floating barrel? My stainless laminated Vanguard does not. I never noticed that it wasn't until I got home with it. Also, I have extraction problems with mine. After a few shots the bolt doesn't want to open until the rifle cools down awhile. Any Ideas???

The extraction problems you are describing are the tell tell signs of overpressure in your ammunition. Mine is free floated but they do have models that are not.

murpheysmuskets The first time I had the extraction problem that was my guess too, but it happened again with another manufacturers ammo as well. The first time was Remington Core Lokt 180gr, and the next time was Win. Super X 180gr Soft Point. BTW it is a 300 Win Mag too. Anyway, it's too late for warranty -I bought it in 2007 and didn't fire it until last fall.

Hi Jim. You may have a head spacing problem. Cease fire and return to CA. for barrel press out and return. Weatherby is proud of their brand and will assist.

3 shot groups don't tell you much. You should stick to 5 and 10 shot groups for accuracy testing. Other then that not bad, looks like it needs a brake on it for her to shoot it comfortably. I was impressed by her when she took a second shot after the recoil from the first shot.

+Jeremiah J Not for slim profile hunting rifles. They are not made for five shot groups. You can't apply military rifle standards to hunting rifles.

Just shoot the gun after your initial cleaning. No barrel break in required. That's all bullshit.

WEATHERBY, ONLY makes that ACCURACY GUARANTEE when using WEATHERBY ammo. Watch your Hornandy ammo, there having a great deal of issues with there factory ammo.

They literally say on their site "or other premium loads" 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition. AKA the 300 Win mag is a non weatherby caliber, so they don't even offer weatherby factory ammuntion.

WAY too much gun for your woman dude! WAY too much. I own this cannon (one like yours) And everything I shoot through it, I reload to a little over 3100fps using 180grain Accubond bullets. I can tell you this much! Yes, the rifle will hit even to .5 MOA at 100 yards (mine does anyway) and I've shot pennies and dimes with it at 100yards. But to let my baby sit behind it and let one go! Naw that's too much abuse. Does my wife shoot! Yeah, but nothing over 308 and even that! for my 5'3" baby is asking a lot. Your wife is a trooper! I'll give her that! But if after her shooting, she didn't knock you on the head for allowing her to shoot what you know or should have known was too much! I'd say she's far sweeter than mine would have been. Lucky you! She looked in pain and that isn't acceptable. So shame on you.

Tony agreed. No way I key my wife shoot my mag. I’d edit that off the video. Let your lady keep her dignity.
