I had a lot of people ask me about the patterned inclusions I created in my first try at a 4-shaft loom. It has been a hard process to communicate through only words, so I made a little video to help anyone else who is wanting to try this technique :)

Oh wait! You're THAT Pipyr! I've been a fan of your glass work for a long time (and bought a tutorial--on eyes, I think). Now I need to go weave AND melt some glass!

Love your work! What kind of loom do you use to wave this work with such thinner threads? Thank you.

I have watched your video agian. I'm new too, very new. anyway, did you thread the whole loom with neat pattern, but treadled plain tabby/weave untill you wanted to put in the inclusion, then you treadled the inclusion pattern? Does that question make sense? Hope so
@Pipyr
@Pipyr 8 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I just saw this! Yes, that's exactly it! The pattern also weaves plain weave (as many do) on shaft 1+3 and 2+4, so the whole width is threaded for the pattern and I'm just plain weaving until I I want to place the inlay yarn :)

Are you threading the pattern draft across all the ends or just the place with the inclusion? Nice work.
@Pipyr
@Pipyr 8 жыл бұрын
+Laura Moszer The whole thing is threaded that way. From what I can tell, the technique will work with any threading that offers a true plain weave in addition to a pattern :)

I love this idea, but I'm not quite understanding. Does the inlay design show on both sides? Does the extra thickness cause the fell line to bulge up? I'm also curious how you got the red design to look so geometric, compared to the other white one. Was it threaded differently on that side of the warp? thank you for your time.
@Pipyr

The inlay does show on both sides! I haven't had any issues with the fell line, much to my surprise and slightly to my dismay, actually. I would love to get some funky stuff happening here and there. Ah, well :) The red design was simply treadled differently, in more of a monk's belt fashion. I would use one treadle for 4-5 shots of the pattern and then switch to another treadle and do the same (with the tabby in between, of course). It was threaded for the same pattern all the way across :)

I love it! I do not totally understand how it works... your pattern draft is for the four shafts, so how is that you can weave just plain weave and not the pattern when using them to create the inlay? Thanks for your help, I would love to try this technique :)
@Pipyr
@Pipyr 8 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response! The pattern only shows with the corresponding treadling sequence. If I weave shafts 1+3 together and 2+4 together, it creates plain weave. This is true for many weaving patterns :)
