Nice video. Just wondering how you managed the tencel warp? I am using tencel as a warp and weft. Within the first 6" of weaving, I have at least 24 broken treads. It's as if they are disintegrating in front of my eyes. It's awful. Any tips on how to prevent breakage/disintegration? Elin

Hi, what kind of brush are you using to blend the pastels? Im searching but cant find anything close :( this looks beautiful x

Hi! I wish I could remember the exact name. I don’t think they are made any more but they were very soft brushes intended for oil painting. It’s been a few years since I’ve painted and I can’t bring them to mind but when I get my paints out of storage I’ll try to remember to check!

Nice explanation. I do have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer. I don’t have a supplemental beam either, so would I be winding both warps together and then be prepared to weight the supplemental as needed? Also, if my pattern also (sometimes) uses the same shafts as those of the ground cloth, do I thread the appropriate heddles with one of each warp thread?
@Pipyr2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wound it all at once and then added weights to even the tension as they became necessary on the white threads. For your second question, the issue with that would be that every other pick would catch that thread, because 1 and 2 are used for plain weave across the whole surface. I think you either need separate shafts for the pattern (so a 6 shaft loom if you wanted plain weave and a 4 shaft pattern section) or you’ll have to do some pick up work. I’ve done a pick up pattern like that in the band, as I would in a regular inkle band, and it is definitely possible but rather slow! I would recommend starting with a 2 shaft inkle pattern first to get a feel for the mechanics of it and thread those on 3 and 4 and then decide if a pick up pattern is your next project :) I hope that helps!

Love this technique but I am such a novice. i am trying to figure out the threading sequence to work in the supplemental warp. I understand it is threaded on 3 and 4 and the base threads on 1 and 2. I just can't seem to figure out the sequence. Any help would be appreciated!

This was great. I have never known how supplemental warping works - I have been meaning to learn, but haven't gotten around to it yet. This makes it look pretty simple and thanks for the additional comment about the supplemental warp getting loose. I would have thought I was doing something wrong.

I don't check in here often but just saw this. I think there are weavers incorporating band weaving into cloth with cards/tablets and I'm sure there are others doing it with inkle weaving, but for me this was born from wanting to bring my inkle weaving into my floor loom work and experimenting until I figured it out. This is just the way I do it. I'm sure there are other ways :)

That's a beautiful piece you were working on. I'm curious about the weft inserts that are on the same warp threads for quite a few picks. Does this cause any density or tension problems?

When winding the warp, do you also include the white threads, and when threading through the reed, do you put two threads through the reed at that point? I can get the weaving of it okay but the setup is a little confusing, so can you let me know if the supplemental warp is entirely separate, and threaded by itself, or included in the original warp and threaded as usual with two threads going through at the point of the supplemental warp, hope I explained this so you know what I mean. Thanks
@Pipyr3 жыл бұрын
I know this was from a long time ago but I'm just seeing it now. I figured I might as well answer now in case you or anyone else is still wondering! The white warp was created as its own separate entity. I warp front to back. I threaded the entire regular warp on shafts 1+2 as plain weave. First, I used 19 epi through the reed and then 1,2,1,2 through the heddles. I tied that on the back beam. Then, without winding on, I added the white warp where I wanted it to go. I also used 19 epi through the reed for this, right on top of the original warp that was already there. Then I did the pattern on shafts 3+4. I tied this on the back beam. Then I wound on. The white warp doesn't hold the same tension as the regular warp. It will loosen up as you weave. I used weights on it to keep the right tension. I hope that helps!!
