Jack Webster. We need a few of him today. Journalists that aren't afraid to ask tough questions and challenge their guests. Trudeau. A smart man, and a capable politician who can actually answer questions. Mind you, I recognized a number of promises from that interview that are still hanging in the air somewhere...

Pierre Elliott Trudeau was voted out of office but only many months later he was voted back into office. He was voted out of office in 1979 but he was voted back into office in 1980. Joe Clark was voted into office in 1979 and he was voted out of office in 1980 which means that he was voted into office in 1979 and he was voted out of office only months later in 1980.

I had forgotten why I liked Trudeau. He understood governance, he was for allowing what the majority of Canadians would decide to chose and representing that. . He could think like a General. I would have to dig in history for why those living west of Manitoba hated him back then. Something to do with jobs lost , or economic opportunity, energy policies .

He declared he wouldn't run in '79 (whereas heir apparent #2, Donald McDonald was publicly mum on the subject). With hindsight, a huge mistake. If he'd declared intention to run, I wonder if the party wojdl have thought twice about appealing to Trudeau to stay.....and Turner would have been four years less rusty than he was in '84.
