I've followed you for a few months by now. And I love how the most important thing that your videos convey is probably the "artist" mindset. "Publish your first comic, even if you don't think is perfect. That it could be better." It will never be. You'll never be satisfied enough, so just publish and move on to the next chapter, the next arc, the next story. I struggle with this kind of mindset every day and I tought for weeks if it was even a good idea to give it a try and make something. I finally did... and I'm scared as f**k haha Not because of some possible criticism (obviously there's nothing in this world that could please everyone) but because nobody will read it. Hope this feeling will disappear soon cause I love making art! Keep it up with the good work! Love this channel

Your videos are so helpful!! I’ve been trying to start a WEBTOON comic for a while now, and your advice has helped speed the process along. I would like your advice on something specific though. It has been made clear by WEBTOON that they gravitate towards color comics when picking projects for featured. I’ve always opted for dark charcoal/pencil brushes with a cream/light brown background, because i feel this is when my work looks best, and it fits the overall tone and aesthetic of my story. I’ve never been happy with adding additional color, and I want to continue my story without it, but I’m afraid I might be alienating an audience as well as the possibility of monetization. Do you have any advice for what I should do?? I know it’s weirdly specific but I don’t know who else to consult😅
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. Colored VW black and white comics is always a little tricky. Color comics are easier to sell. Just like movies and TV, older black and white movies tend to turn off a lot of people for some reason. Color comics are easier to read due to clarity. Personally I love black and white but I know it is hard to make a great black and white image. The other options would be to add fake colors. Basically if you can keep the palette limited to 2 to 3 colors, you can keep that monochromatic nature but also appease readers who want color. They can be muted colors. So yeah, color is easier to sell, but comics are art so you you have to go with your art gut and do what you think is right.

Thank you so much for this! :3 (edit: Also I forgot to ask, how many panels would you recommend per episode?)
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on the type of story, I'd say 30 is a good average number if you're posting once a week. If you are posting more often you can prolly do less panels per episode. Obviously the more panels will make readers happier. However, the real answer is do as many panels as make sense for your creative time and schedule. That's the most important thing. If you try to do too much, you'll burn out.

Hello there! I know setting up the page is supposed to be easy, but I'm kind of hardcore struggling. I was wondering if you could help me? I am using clip studio, I want to make beautiful pictures but it keeps coming out kind of pixelated. I tried following like in someone your other videos (one said 500x800?) but if I set it to 70dpi(webtoon recommended) it's very pixelated, but if I set it to the 300dpi then the picture seems to be smaller? like the Text comes out huge and if I try to shrink it, it looks pixelated. Do you know what I am doing wrong? Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

You definitely want the width to be at the very minimum 800px. The height can be whatever your computer can handle. 4500px is a good place to start. I'd also say 72dpi, it's just a standard, it doesn't really mean much for anything. It just information that a printer can use. Webtoon let's you upload the max file size of 800px wide by 1280px tall. This video and the next one in this playlist will really help you I think. I know it's a lot of information, but try to watch all of it. I explain everything. I'd really suggest watching all of them in the playlist kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mq-nYNaGxtidfJ8.html
