Join us as we explore the vibrant Malatapay Farmer's Market in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, Philippines.
We arrived early Wednesday morning and began our journey down the market street to the harbor. Here, outrigger boats ferry passengers to the small diving island of Apo. After parking, while the ladies enjoyed their local breakfast, I captured footage of rustic eateries with open fires in their kitchens. Then, onto the beach where piglets and tourists awaited transport to the island. Back to the lechon stalls, adjacent to Bebeboy Aguirre's souvenir shop, offering a variety of trinkets. I struck up a conversation with Bebeboy and arranged to film at his mountain home, where he crafts wooden carvings, supporting his family with his craftsmanship.
When purchasing from Bebeboy, bargaining is customary, but please do so respectfully, as his livelihood depends on it.
Next, I ventured into the bustling farmer's market. From a farmer's wife buying a goat at the livestock market to stalls offering dishes cooked over open fires, featuring chicken, pork, goat, water buffalo, beef, and horse meat. Tourists browse for souvenirs, including traditional medicines, talismans, and agricultural tools like machetes. Don't forget the fish and vegetable stands, along with clothing and footwear options, both new and used, at the sprawling ukay-ukay section.
