For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzfaq.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself.Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

A yr later & your video is still rescuing folks. Actually, I did purchase a new trimmer, having given up on fixing mines. I replaced the fuel filter, fuel lines, primer bulb, & the spark plug. None of those did the trick. So before i opened the box to my new trimmer, i tried once more to find a solution on KZfaq. Sure enough I ran across your video. I followed your instructions, blew out the screen & dog-gone it, it fixed my problem. So now i can return the new trimmer. Thank you kindly.

Great video. I started simple. Took the air filter cover off and cleaned the filter .Then only undid the two screws for the primer bulb without disconnecting the gas lines. Saw the dirty screen filter and used a q-tip to absorb the excess gas which took 99% of the dirt particles off then used compressed air to remove the rest. Put it back together and it runs like new. You gotta love KZfaq

OK, so this video rocks. I noticed that this unit is probably built by Weed Eater and branded for Sears. Its identical. My Weed Eater just stopped working. I noticed that the fuel filter was bouncing around in the tank. So, I replaced all the fuel lines, added a new filter, would not start... Found this vid, pulled out the carb, cleared the screen, put it back together.. Bang, one pull and it was flying.. Cost me $20 for a filter and some fuel line. Thanks dude..I really appreciate it.

My high quality Echo 225 got sick, it would start, stop, run, stop, it was driving me crazy! The videos showing how to rebuild the carb were for watch makers, not regular mechanics like me. I knew it was the carb, and I tried ALL my cleaning tricks, changed the in tank filter (after spraying it repeatedly, and sucking and spitting acetone) and the local shop wanted $85 for a new carb. Went instead to Amazon, and bought a carb from a Chinese company. On the Echo, you take off the air cleaner, then remove two "Torx" bolts, and stick on the new carb. That's it! Chinese copy was $14 bucks, and came with extra fuel line, filters, and two extra fuel priming bulbs. Big time and money saver, frankly I was sorta amazed.

Good tip about the sediment screen. Another VERY common issue is the fuel lines on these 2 cy engines become brittle and shrink over time, causing the carb to suck air and lean out -- especially on newer models where the lines are held in the tank by a friction fit. Those engineers are real master minds!! My 30-year old Ryan (forerunner to Ryobi) has no emissions crap, a single line that attaches to the tank with a barb fitting and hose clamp, and runs all day like a Swiss watch. Also, all small engine problems are made 10 times worse with ethanol -- run pure gas if you can get it. Thanks again for a good vid.

This is a great tip and should anyone find themselves not quite fixed yet after trying this, order the carb rebuild kit for your machine. The H and L screws should be your absolute last resort as so many other things could be the problem and usually are. Crud builds easily within the rubber gaskets and that can cause a crazy amount of issues for these 2 strokes. Don't forget to perform the simple tune up procedures every season. The fuel filters are very easy to replace and should be often. Good luck! You can do it!

Have now subbed to your channel. The carb I am working on is the Walbro WA-226. Fitted a new primer bulb (old one was in bits), cleaned the fuel filter, removed all the bad fuel residues etc, fitted a new in tank filter (old one was solid with old fuel). Engine now fired up, but only for a second or two on full choke. Then, removed carb again. Next, went for the metering plate removal you suggested. Sure enough, more bad fuel and dirt, rust, etc. cleaned it all out, (metering pin was sticking) and checked the diaphragm - no holes, but it seemed a bit perished and stiff. Put it back on the engine after re-assembly. Now runs on 1/2 choke for up to a minute. So, progress! Have ordered the Walbro K20-WAT repair kit - it's a 20 year old machine - and well needed. My Question: You put the thin fuel line to the carb and the thick line to the bulb on your machine. But on my machine, the thick line has the tank filter and goes to the carb, the thin line connected to the bulb is the return back to the tank. Is this normal?

Something you just said finally registered in my coconut: "If you have to keep choking it to keep it running..." That's it! The air supply is fine as I've checked my air filter and even removed it temporarily but if the fuel supply is poor the engine will run lean and need to be choked to get the proper air/fuel ratio. Duh! I feel so dumb. I should have thought of that. Oh well, live and learn. THANK YOU for this video. I am excited to fix my carb, THANKS TO YOU!

Its probably running to rich and you can adjust the L screw on the carb the exact opposite way I described before. Good luck. If you cant figure out which screw is which typically the L is further out and the H is not as far out. So easy way to remember High is low and low is High. Whatever you do don't adjust the H screw without knowing the correct Max RPMS WOT and connecting the correct tachometer. You probably don't have one of these by the way and the

I found a Ryobi 430 on the curb and took it home, looked up the manual and did all the trouble shooting recommended. The thing still wouldn't rev high enough to be effective. Pro Tip: You do NOTneed to remove the carb from the weed wacker (at least not the style in the video). You can simply remove the two screws from the primer bulb area and pop it off to clean the screen. You don't even have to remove the fuel lines.
@LonnieJohnson110 жыл бұрын
You talk about a pro tip. I give and show the info for people with little or no experience to fix a problem by taking the carb off the motor so they don't lose small parts. A skilled person can do what u are saying. Thanks for your input.
@jesrockz10 жыл бұрын
***** No need to take offense. Your video is very good for anyone that needs or wants to remove the carb. Removing the two screws from the primer bulb area to clean the screen is the fastest and easiest way to do it. It takes more skill and time to remove the carb. Plus there is actually less of a chance to lose small parts since you're only removing two screws and you're not removing the gas lines at all. So I really don't understand your logic. In fact, I do believe you are just aggressively defending your video without giving my advice much thought. Your video IS very helpful and well explained. I was just simply trying to save people some time if they only want to check the screen quickly.

This worked great on my 3-year old Murray/MTD. I had adjusted the carb last year due to poor performance (had to use special tool due to the pacman-shaped adjustment screw heads). Ran great last year after adjustment, and for the first couple of months this year, but then recently it just wouldn't idle/stay running, no matter what I did. Cleaned the screen today and gave the carb a healthy dose of Seafoam, and after a good deal of smoking (Seafoam), it's running perfectly again. Thanks very much for this tip.

You can also clean that little screen without removing the entire carburetor from the weedeater by just removing them 2 screws on the bulb and moving the throttle cable forward. I did.

if you're in a push for time, and it's not leaking massive gas, if it'll run a little and stall or only with the choke on, take the air cleaner off, start it and at it's highest idle or rev, intermittently block the intake with the palm of your hand, it gives no where for the vacuum to go. and alot of time it'll suck whatever is plugged in the fuel delivery. and wham, you're back running.

Ethanol is bad on fuel lines. It eats the hoses. If the primer don't prime, it could be that the line in the tank has broke off and that's why it won't prime. Make sure about where the hoses go. If you mix them up, it won't prime. If the engine has been sitting, replace the carburetor because it has gum buildup in it. The top gasket is the diaphragm and includes the pump. It dries out and causes hard starting and no start. Adjust the mixture with the right tool.

you're welcome :) but if you come across one of these weedeaters, you can still use the carb on another weedeater as well as the fuel tank. In fact, that type of tank has the fuel lines coming out of the tank on the same side that also has the fuel cap, and you can mount this tank up on end so you can put more fuel in it than normal. The tank has two tabs with holes that you can put bolts through to mount it. if you are interested in motorizing a little push scooter for only going a short distance like up and down the alley with then the craftsman/featherlite motor is fine for use, but for anything that you want to use long distance the other motors will work better. :)

Good video. I'v dealt with The Same Exact problem AND Solution in recent experiences. 1 Thing I Feel the Need To mention ~ In MY Opinion ~ It IS a BAD Idea to try & Start THOSE Carborator Screws With a Cordless Screwdriver = " I " A L W A Y S Use a Hand Held Screw Driver To start ANY screws on a weedeater. Using a power tool Trying to start screws IS a Dam Good Way To Strip the Threads Out Of . . . Anything your working on

On an Assembly line all the screws are made to be dropped in and fastened with an electric screw driver. The nuts are made to go on with the right tool you just have to be careful with some them if your not use to it. Thanks

The blue plastic is actually a reed /check valve for the pumping gas up from tank.(gasket is up against it.)
@LonnieJohnson15 жыл бұрын
It's a valve seal

I found a guy on eBay that sells new carbs from China they are all made there the same company for all these 2 cycle engines. His prices are $9-$16 with free shipping. He also sells the mixture tool I think was 6 dollars. No need to rebuild if your gaskets are messed up like mine because I had cleaned mine out many times this guy sells whole carbs that are ready to bolt on.

kell490 For that price you can't go wrong!

In my case, butterfly stuck ( wouldn't move ),clogged fuel passage (blow the line but no air moving) and cracked primer bulb. It's been sitting in garage over a decade. I need to replace carburetor. Thanks to Amazon for selling rebuilding kits at $10 to $30 depends manufactures and needed parts.
@LonnieJohnson15 жыл бұрын
Yes, cheaper to replace the carb.

If you have fuel, spark and air and will not even sputter I found fix. Check compression. Mine was 50 psi so had stuck piston ring. Pour automatic transmission fluid and mineral spirits in spark plug hole. Let soak for 24 hours to unstick ring.

Thanks for the info! I'd been messing with it for an hour before deciding to seek help online. After watching your video, took it apart for the last time, blew out the crud and it popped right off. Ran right the rest of the day and today as well. Thank you! Now on to tackle the JD lawn tractor...

I always add stabil to my gas to keep it from gumming up the carb.Todays gas goes bad within a few weeks.
@LonnieJohnson16 жыл бұрын
You got that right.

keep noted, if you have to adjust the high range screw to get it to run at top RPM then more than likely your crank seal is sucking in air. USE NON ETHANOL GAS IF AVAILABLE ethanol brittle's rubber such as fuel lines and most importantly the diaphragms in the carb.

Hi Lonnie, I just subscribed. As A guy who works on these things all the time, anything smaller than a chainsaw gets the muffler pulled first and a start up. 50% of the time the problem goes away. Chainsaws generally run wide open throttle where as weedwackers spend more than 1\2 their time at low speeds or idle. Carbon build up will restrict the flow and be as you described in the symptoms . THEN I'll go to the carb. That's just me but I thought I would share. Chainsaws I go straight to the carb for poor power. ZD

Your description is not as clear as it could be: "This video shows how to correct a sluggish or runs only on choke problem that occurs if your fuel filter in the tank becomes disconnected from the fuel line in the tank and reconnecting the fuel filter to the fuel line doesn't solve the problem." I had the same problem with a McCollough chain saw with the same carbureator and air filter setup. Good video!
