This is why Israel is planning on the Rafah offensive despite USA demands to not do so. It is the only objective left that would completely decimate Hamas. Before Syria or Iraq get involved, who are MUCH stronger than Hamas.

For the most part I’d say it’s wishful thinking and underdogism. Israel has entered the phase where it’s now just sweeping up the rest of Hamas, there’s no reason for it to keep its troops in areas that’ve been completely destroyed. But due to underdogism people will see the words “Israel withdraws troops” and go “YAY HAMAS IS WINNING!!!!” I also think people are assuming that Israel’s goal here is to annex Gaza when really it’s to destroy Hamas. They’re not interested in controlling territory they willingly gave up in 2005

Even if theyre crippled for a few years Israel now knows exactly what happens when you try to avoid conflict with people like Hamas. For over a decade before Hamas invaded Israel they had tolerated their existence and only sent rockets in retaliation to PIJ/Hamas rocketfire. The "mowing the lawn" approach has failed and the psychotic leadership in Gaza has made it clear they never plan to allow for a permanent peace, and promises that they will do again and again what they did 6 months ago until every one of them is gone. The Gaza strip requires a responsible civilian government, but that's something that cannot come to be with the continued existence of Hamas in any capacity bar near total dissolution. There does need to be serious humanitarian consideration given still obviously. Even if you remove Hamas if the people you were supposed to be trusting with the future of peace see your forces acting brashly and hurting innocent people for no reason they'll probably have a harder time agreeing to peace with you and they may even develop similar attitudes to the current government. tldr; a peace deal which does not dismantle or near entirely dismantle Hamas is unacceptable for Israelis or Palestinians, but Israel does need to tread lightly if they want to see peace arise.
