During slavery, black babies were used as alligator baites so that's probably what she was referring to with " i ride on alligators". She switched the narrative.

Okay. So, here's the scoop about this song, video and meaning as how I understood it. Beyoncé released this February which is black history month. The lyrics and video split between two points she is addressing. One is our history here in America as black people. And two, she's addressing the people online talking bad about her and her family. She pretty much clapped back at social media haters and critics. They say she's so successful because she's illuminati. She tells them they're corny with that mess. She sees what she wants, she dreams it, she works hard til she gets it. There is a notion from the past, that that black people couldn't attain own wealth unless they had help from some evil organizations like the illuminati. Turns out they were thinking that about us for a long time. To give an example of time reference, when Stan Lee and Kirby created the comic book for Black Panther, they tied him into the Illuminati because there was no other reference to make to relate to. Stan felt the need to create a comic book with a black hero and his world. He even said, they didn't know what they were doing because this was new territory that hasn't been introduced before. All he knew was that he had to do something to make his contribution to the change for diversity, in his small way. They made fun of Blue Ivy's hair and were making petitions to force her to take better maintenance of her. Hence the line " I like my baby's hair with baby hair and afros." They said Jay-z was ugly with his features and made fun of his strong African nose, and were saying he couldn't land a woman like her without his money. Hence the line "I like my negro's nose with Jackson 5 nostrils". The Jacksons became ashamed of their african features, after they made it big and moved from mostly an all black neighborhood of Indiana to California, and started getting operations to reduce them...especially their noses. They grew up in California once they made it big. Janet has said in interviews, that they felt insecure peer pressure growing up there in rich neighborhoods. So nose surgery was a big thing to do to blend in. Men online would talk trash that Jay probably isn't hitting it right. That they don't like her but she fine enough for them to fuck her. Ergo, the middle fingers in the air and the line about "If he fuck me good, I take his ass to red lobster. If he hit it right I might take him on a flight on my chopper." One of my favorite lines. In other words, you ain't shit and your dick won't change my world cuz I'm still big league, so take this poor man's idea of a rich meal (Red Lobster)and fuck off...might even take your broke asses to the mall and let you get some new Jordans. Lol As for the video.....it's full of black history info. The dancers were all black women of different shades wearing their natural hair to show pride. In today's media there is a backlash again, like the 60's and 70's against black women wearing their hair the way it naturally grows out of their heads, for work purposes. The grainy video portion was representing the era when black girls were over a sudden popular again late 80's and 90's...notice they're all in stone acid wash blue jean clothing. The choreography here along with the line SLAY TRICK OR YOU'LL be ELIMINATED has warning of two meanings. One is obviously a brag of her awesomeness but I think the other is referring to the lack of representation we as black women get unless we work twice as hard as a mediocre white female performer. In other words, unless we go extra and show out, then the media will keep trying to erase our image and impact from the world. How else are they gonna see our talents to later steal and whitewash down. In a political sense, it's referencing the activation black women get started, organize and be the driving force behind many movements concerning our community. She's telling us that it's time to gather once again, and get some shit done for our people again. Martin Luther King Jr., has even said that the sisters are the backbone of a movement. He got lots of credit, but people behind the scenes deserve equal respect....I'm paraphrasing. The parlor of women dates back to the Antebellum age of societies created by slave owners when the slave girls they deemed pretty and/or mixed(even their own children) from slavery and put them on display in these types of parlors that the women in the video were in, for sex....like pimping them out, instead of them working at the plantation. The clothing is a hint to those times....especially in New Orleans. Bey is giving some history lessons of New Orleans. Some of this went on in creole (can't be browner than a paper bag) societies. The purse strings were kept tight from them too. Not all were as privileged as others...especially the females. They were paraded around like "exotic fruit" and the European men, especially French, would go there to taste these "fruits". But these women prevailed and helped build up those societies. They did what they had to given the hand they were dealt. The women laying down and dancing in the empty pool was about the times when blacks and whites had separate facilities. There were headlines made about the black kids being forced out of the public pools. Bleach was poured into the pool to force them out, also some were just drained completely. Black women gathered their forces yet again and protested. Basically, thisvideo is telling us whenever there's strife on our people, black women get organized. "Ok, ladies. Now let's get in Formation" is pretty much a call to arms to sistas that there is more work to be done. Let's get organized and create another movement. Black Lives Matter is the newest one. The location was Louisiana for hurricane Katrina. The government took their time sending aid and rescue because it was poor and mostly black communities. Let's face it, Beverly hills would have never had to wait that long. Also, local police guarded a bridge, that was a cross over to another wealthier county. They shot down people trying to come across who were running from Katrina...hence Beyoncé drowning herself on top of the police car. I forgot who's the name of the person at the beginning, but he was known to speak up on issues. "WHAT HAPPENED AT THE NEW ORLEANS?!" is the opening line. It was a snippet. The little kid dancing in front of the cops in a dark hoodie should bring you up to date of what's been going on the past 10 years. Trevon Martin in a hoodie and etc. Her dressed in black with the men behind her kind of represents the mystical history of New Orleans and black women being powerful voodoo witches (she's dressed like a character of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: THE COVEN, in which she is what AHS calls would be a "Supreme") It's also a reference to " BLACK GIRL MAGIC". SO....that's pretty much the gist to the video, as I understood it. If I missed something others know, please help me out and drop some knowledge on me.
