The thing about it is, even if the build isn't hyper detailed, or is a little wonky, It's still effectively scary because of the rules the angels work by. That's just a testament to how great the angels are as monsters.

Great info! I never would've thought of using buckets as a base. Guess I over complicated it. Also, didn't know that it's the propellant in the spray paint that actually melts the styrofoam heads, I thought it was something in the paint itself. Very useful tip! Thanks Allen!

You must find it so hard to sleep Allen with all of the ideas you have floating around your head. Your imagination is superb. Most people look at stuff that's been hanging around for ages and think "Why do I still have that - I'm gonna chuck it", whereas you must look at 'useless' stuff and think "Aha, I know what I can do with that!". I bet if you went driving out into the barren desert, tens if not hundreds of miles from anybody or anything, and you loose a wheel - somehow, you WILL find a way to create a wheel from something and get back home. You'd probably make such a good job at it you wouldn't bother replacing it with an actual wheel!

This was amazing. Thank you for sharing! I hadn't thought of 5 gallon buckets as a building material which is an absolute shame as three local businesses give them away for free. Coming at this from both a Doctor Who fan and sewers perspective Im gonna suggest people doing this actually beak out a needle and some wire or cord (for the water resistant properties and sturdiness) and use a pretty easy sewing technique to get the look right for the dress. Added bonus? No pleating. The original Weeping angel design is actually gathered rather than pleated. Im gonna try to explain how to do it but Im not sure it will make sense to others. If not, if you look up how to sew an ancient Roman or Grecian dress costume you should be able to find a basic tutorial to show you the shape the fabric needs to be and how to gather the waist. So if you work with the tarp you can cut it out in two pieces and not have to worry about seaming since you have the heat gun to fuse it. If you are using fabric and really hate sewing you could make it one piece that would be put on the form like an apron and sew up the back. If your doing two pieces make the neckline at the top then cut down moving out to get the added fullness you'll need further down. Take the pieces and put them on the body. If your sewing stitch up the seems for a basic look dress. If your using the heat gun and tarp can us that to seam them together. Fuse at the shoulders then down the sides attaching the two pieces to each other but not the form underneath. Then take your needle and whatever your using for thread and stitch around the body in a wide running stitch, basically just going up and out of the fabric at regular intervals. Your aiming to make a circle around the body at about its hips. Once you've stitched around the body you gather the material. Lots of tutorials online as to how but I promise its easy. Essentially you are pushing the fabric together on the thread you laced through it. Once its gathered in a bit lift that line of stitching where the fabric is scrunching up to the waist and keep gathering it in until it holds tight around the waist. Then tie off your string to hold it all gathered together. There will be a bunch of fabric that wants to balloon over that thanks to lifting it up. Letting it will give you the look from the show but since the tarp is a stiffer fabric you'll probably have to smooth it down for a better look. If you lifted it out of the way you could use the heat gun to fuse all that gathering into place then it would drape over and hide that should it look messy. Lastly at this point cut the bottom of the dress so it lays as you'd like. Not sure if it this idea will be of use to anyone but just incase I had to put it out there.

Just to add, to ensure the styrofoam is 100% safe from the spray can propellant, you can coat the styrofoam in cheap pva glue (good old white school glue) It adds a protective barrier on the styrofoam so you can paint it with anything without the paint eating away at the foam.

I am thinking that using old buckets for the lower torso/skirt area, and one or more square-ish litter buckets for the upper torso would look cool as well. What a great build design idea! Thanks for always sharing your ideas and techniques. I’ve got to add one of these to our yard haunt this year. 🎃 I was planning on making one with monster mud but this is so much better.

Awesome. My kids had a Dr Who wedding and I made a set of 4 for the grooms cake. I may need to add this to my Halloween decor in their honor

I've been trying for 4 years to make a weeping angel statue. I have a mannequin and a base to attach it to. I couldn't figure out how to "bend" the arms to reach the face or how to carve wings out of the foam I bought. Your buckets with my mannequin top will be perfect, and I never thought of pipe foam to fix the arm problem. You have some great ideas! I want to put a weeping angel in my garden and I think I can do that now! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Thank you for sharing, I learned so much already and feel so much more confident in making our props! close up on the wings could have been a little more helpful but reading your comments I learned to slow the video down and think I got it. Thank you AGAIN.

Where have you been my whole life. I have struggled for years to make Halloween props. Have used many of your same methods and substrates but would have been nice to have an instructure make it sound and look so easy for the encouragement and removing the anxiety of certain bound to happen fails. 40 years ago people thought I was crazy attempting these projects until they saw them. Now at 63 I wondered if it was time to give it up until I have just recently caught your videos. The torch can be passed on to my grandkids and then theirs. Thanks, Lynn, Dodge City, KS
