I would also love some info on this! It’s so hard for me to get enough protein without eating meat all the time. I’m not strictly a vegetarian but I just…. don’t like meat that much.

@@alxndria1 Meat is also incredibly expensive in both monetary and calories if you have to get the cheaper cuts that are not lean.

@@alxndria1Personally, I like to eat Greek Yogurt almost daily, but in different ways. With some berries and maple syrup one day, the next as a smoothie (bowl), the next day with granola, and so on. That’s how I easily get in at least 20g of extra protein. It’s also a great dessert if your meal itself isn’t as high in protein as you’d like it to be.

It seems like if other people did some of these things in a "what I eat in a day", they would be critiqued on them. The line between trying to lose weight and disordered eating is quite thin.

it absolutely can be. and that's why intention is key. are you applying some of these gentle tweaks from a place of self care or self restriction? Thats why i say, not all of which would be right for everyone. For example, if you love mayo, dont do the mustard hack. just as i said! take what works for you and leave the rest

I like to take a moment to remind myself why I am trying to eat healthier and select foods that work for my body - so it can perform its best and so I have energy. I like adding cauliflower rice to my regular white rice. I could never make the switch to brown rice because I just hated the flavor, and couldn't fully switch to cauliflower because I hated the texture. This has been a great compromise.

Yooooo, imma need to try that. I love white rice too much to fully give it up. We had a potluck at work one year and someone brought in cauliflower mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. It took me a hot min to figure out why the texture was off. The flavor was great tho!

Girl, next step is to make your own yogurt! You can do it in a Dutch oven or a crockpot. It’s not hard at all and it is SO GDAMN GOOD! I use the recipe on the daring gourmet and mannnn. It’s literally just milk but tastes like dessert.

@@TaMarAaQ enjoy! I use flour sack cloth instead of cheesecloth because then I can wash and reuse it but whatever works for you is what you should go with!

these were such unique and interesting tips, thank you so much for sharing!! A lot of the weight loss tips I see are just variations of "eat lower calorie foods" and I absolutely love how these were so actionable and evidence-based

8:44 This! I think this is why I prefer the Mediterranean Diet. Protein is definitely important, and I make sure to eat enough protein being over 50. But I notice a difference when I don’t have enough healthy fats and the Mediterranean Diest makes that easier for me to incorporate them into my diet.

I used to hate breakfast, and slowly I started convincing myself to have toast first before coffee (just because coffee fills me up, then I had no interest in eating) but now I’ve gotten to a point where I enjoy having eggs a few times a week (with toast and some kind of fruit, and maybe even nut butter) or I’ll have a yogurt bowl with fruit nuts and seeds. I still have my coffee, I just wait until I’m at least half done breakfast. Since I started this routine, I’ve lost 10 lbs! I haven’t changed anything else in my diet, just that. I have so much more energy now

Dude yes! I went through the same process of forcing myself to be a breakfast person. Then I randomly stopped eating breakfast to try to lower my caloric intake and I actually gained 10 pounds and was tired every single day. As corny as it sounds, breakfast is everything.

You should try some South Indian breakfast recipes like Idli, dosa, Upma, etc. They’re a bit carb heavy but there are some recipes which use sub more protein rich ingredients. I prefer savoury’s breakfast over sweet ones.😊

My husband will buy the individualized chips to help with portion control, he does this for anything that comes individually packaged in single servings. I’ve lived and visited East Asia and one thing I picked up from China was leaving the last bite of food on my plate. This is rooted in a philosophy of “sharing” for lack of a better term because people want their friends and family to have the last piece of whatever food is on the table. It can also signal of sorts that one is full (compared to an empty plate). I don’t always do this one because it’s not always feasible but, it does help with mindful eating.

Have you made a video on your ADHD? I am an adult who discovered I have ADHD later in life and I am finding it more and more challenging on the daily. My biggest issue is the feeling of being overwhelmed and jumping from one task to the next because I simply can’t focus on one until it is finished because I need to get everything else done. My sleep has been greatly affected too. I would love to hear your take on your experience on ADHD as you mention in previous videos that medication has helped stop the noise in your head. I am very scared to start medication but feel like it could be life changing. Love your very candid, honest approach to life, diet and well being! Thanks for all your do!❤

The candy one made me LOL, because I literally eat twice as much if they're bite sized. I can't monitor at all. Candy bowl at work - always grab a piece. I have a regular sized bar of chocolate in my cupboard I only eat on Saturdays, two squares at a time. I love to run counter to logic.

Same, I can’t stop eating small candy, but I usually eat a reasonable amount of the regular sized stuff. I feel like my brain just thinks “they’re so small, it’s basically nothing” every single time a grab a new piece of candy. When I have a whole bar of chocolate, though, my brain immediately knows that one whole bar is just too much to eat at once, so I’m fine with just eating a piece of it when I really want to. But it also helps that I only buy high quality chocolate bars, so I appreciate it more when I eat it than I would appreciate mini Reese’s or mini Snickers (which are also more addictive).

My main goal hasn't been to lose weight but to manage slightly high blood sugar - but the side effect has been to lose 10 lbs "without trying". I've incorporated things that you've mentioned in other videos like eating veggies first, dressing up naked carbs, adding more lean protein, and freezing my bread.

Another hack is sharing with someone (partner, sibling, parent, etc.) This means you get to eat more of the foods you love without feeling like you can't have certain things. My husband and I will eat half of a single item (especially dessert) and this means you only consume half the calories, sugar and fat and you can't be tempted to finish the whole thing because there is none left! We do this with things like Crumbl cookies, sit down restaurant desserts and candy! Yesterday we split a regular bag of peanut M&Ms and that meant there were only 125 calories per person and they do have a small amount of protein and fiber vs some other types of candy :) Not too bad!

I really appreciate that you allow us to choose what is right for us rather than "you must do this to lose weight". Thanks Can you give more ideas for using vinegar? I grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch country -- vinegar and sugar in combination in everything! And I detest vinegar. But if I can find a way to make it palatable I'm willing to try it. 😊

The Greek yogurt tip on tuna salad is one I’m definitely gonna try out. I don’t mind a little Mayo in it but it always feels so excessive when I am making tuna salad for one

Thank you for the pre dinner veggie plate idea! I eat lunch at noon and don’t get home until about 6pm or later. The second I get home I start snacking. So I brought a veggie plate to eat on my way home. I pair it with a serving of hummus which bumps up the calories but keeps me full and satisfied until dinner!

Similar to the mayo tip, I prefer creamy dressing in my salads, but find that Ranch doesnt spread as much as I'd like. I started adding plain full fat greek yogurt with a little bit of ranch and spices (salt, pepper, dill, etc.) Seems to increase the satiety (protein) and the yogurt spreads so much further! I'd like to try this with one of those powdered ranch seasoning, but havent tried it yet.

Can you make a video one day about how to eat healthy as a picky eater? I struggle with most foods because I have pretty bad sensory issues... The texture of most foods is the reason I don't eat them. I can't eat anything mashed or as puree, I only eat a few veggies and of those I either only eat them raw OR cooked, I eat like... three types of fruit.... I don't like so many foods that it's actually insane I haven't developed any severe health issues yet. And every time I google "how to eat healthy as a picky eater" it only shows me results for parents who want to raise someone who is not a picky eater.... So any help would be appreciated honestly. I'm kinda losing my mind because I realized how unhealthy it is for me to always eat literally the same things, and I'm tired of keeping my calorie intake up with chips and chocolate because I just can't eat enough non processed food.

A dietician will often apply the same strategies to picky adults that they use for picky kids. Don't be put off by the advice just because it's usually intended for kids. You can apply it to yourself. If you have insurance and it will cover seeing a dietician, I highly recommend doing so. They can help you come up with a plan of action that's unique to your needs.

What about “sneaking in” grated veggies in things like tomato sauce if you eat that? However, your struggle sounds like it might be a good idea to find a dietician that can help you.

"There's nothing worse than not having enough sweets." ❤ I come from an Irish Catholic background, where I have a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins. The one thing that I learned from my German/Irish grandmother was to have enough dessert for leftovers. No one wants to watch a brawl to break out between (adult) siblings, with their Irish whiskey and chocolate fudge cake in hand, because their wasn't enough cake. 🍀🍰☕️

I live in Toronto and I'd like to know the brands you buy. Alot of your frozen veg looks like PC Loblaws....but I'm not sure. What jared tomato sauce for example? Your caesar dressing looked liked Renee's? Other salad dressings? I'm curious about your nutritional yeast, pasta, cheeses, (what feta are you using?) etc. I do think their is a difderence between brands.

Hello! Could you do a video on the nut milks? I've seen a lot about it and just wondering what your take is. Also what about healthy salad dressing alternatives? I'm a ranch dressing lover (which I think has really hindered weight loss for me) but all of the other dressings at the store I find tend to have the same calorie count/fat content (and a lot of them don't taste good).

I love the cake tip, I usually just give the rest to friends but this is perfect! I freeze other things I bake like cookies and scones, but I never thought to do it with cake too. Also, please tell me why you can scoop the yogurt but not the mayo??🤣

I love these tips! I will say with the candy one though, if your like me and candy wrappers make you feel guilty (which in turn may make you want to eat more) I get the same benefit of mindful eating by buying the full size chocolate bars that have squares. This allows me to have a conscious reminder of how much I've eaten, without feeling bad because "ugg, so many wrappers". Which you shouldn't feel bad about, but I certainly do sometimes. And this helps me. I don't know how to apply this to other candy, lol but I hope that helps somebody.

You could get the squeezy bottles of mayonnaise. That way you can have it without any risk of touching it at all.

TOTALLY can relate to touching Mayo 😵‍💫🤢 ! I don’t mind it in my tuna or egg salad but I can not for the life of me touch it or scoop it out of the jar. * hummus in replace of Mayo in tuna salad is delicious 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I like mayo and mustard in tuna salad. Also, boiled eggs , dill pickle relish and diced apples. I'm telling you the apples are a game changer. Garnish with smoked paprika. Its delish! Oh, I forgot lemon juice and salt and pepper!

I feel so redeemed lol my family has been making tuna salad with mayo, mustard, a good sharp cheese, and green apples for ages now and I always get confused stares when I get to the apples part of the recipe 😂 but it's SO GOOD. When I make it for myself I'll have a few big crackers and slice up the rest of the apple that's left and use that as a vehicle for the tuna ✨ so crunchy, so good.

I'm happy to report that I already do some of these, like the raw veggie plate while cooking dinner and the using less mayo in my tuna. It's also great with a small amount of dried cranberries. :-))

My favorite swap: I like to bake smaller potatoes because I think Russet potatoes aren't big enough for two or three full servings but are always too big for one and smaller potatoes usually have a better texture. (I sometimes also bake half a sweet potato, just put a little oil on it and put it cut side-down on a parchment-covered baking sheet.) Yukon gold potatoes are my favorite for baking whole: 350 F for 80ish minutes for 4-7 oz potatoes, just wash, dry, and poke holes first. They're really soft and creamy when baked slowly like this, so I can add less butter and get the same effect. The skins are thinner than those on Russet potatoes and almost disappear into the potato when cut up, so I actually like potato skins this way. A small baked potato, half a can of chili beans, and some leftover rotisserie chicken all poured hot over spinach with Japanese BBQ sauce drizzled over the top was my lunch today.

Do you have recommendations for how to eat slower. I just really have a problem with having patience with eating/drinking (or just in general 😅). The amount of times I’ve burned my mouth because I was too impatient is concerning. I’m pretty sure I burned like half of my taste buds at this point 😂

That's what I also thought at first, but it is three layers and you were to add the three into one it's a regular size slice of a single layer cake, plus icing, which I think is reasonable. ...though I could absolutely eat more than that 😅

I was vegetarian for about 6 months and didn't lose enough weight fast enough. One day, I switched to keto. I didn't feel very good for a while. Then my hair fell out. I definitely prefer freezing individual servings of cake. Much easier and I will probably lose more fat if I stress less about what I'm eating and just enjoy my life. Thanks for the tips!

So, a guy on youtube here doing something very different from what you're doing, called Exercise4cheatmeals came up with an idea that worked pretty well for me. Not sure if he's the true origin but at least he's where I got it from. For something like a pizza where you want that volume of cheese, instead of using entirely full fat cheese, you can do like, half of it low fat, use that as the base layer, and then get the full fat cheese for the other half of the serving and use that as a top layer allowing it to cook through the fat free stuff. That way you don't have to give up the flavor, at least not completely, and you still have that cheesy volume you're looking for. I tried it on a home made pizza and trust me, I am VERY PICKY about "diet food" tastes. And it did work for me.
