When you said the whole time you owned your car nobody ever sat in the back seat....yup. That's true probably for many...which is why it is stupid to be dragging that extra weight around for a scenario that never even happens. In fact many people rarely even use the front passenger seat. Cars have so much 'what if' stuff in them instead of just what many people actually need and use.

Can’t wait to see part 2! Sound deadening? Splash guards? Washer fluid bottle? Evap canister? Also the aftermarket header and intake arm would be lighter then their stock counterparts as well! The cast manifold that would have been factory is quite heavy
@Gripworkz
@Gripworkz 2 жыл бұрын
We do some of that in part 2, and the car already has headers and an intake. This is also a DX model which is already a light car so it’s sort of difficult to remove more weight. I also can’t remove emissions components, unfortunately we’re in California

Mine has no AC compressor and condensor and I can feel it with the solid late 20s/ early 30s MPG if you drive chill and handling certain roads throughout socal. Weight does factor in track times. Great video! 👍

hey bro just some safety advice im glad to hear youre getting the roll bar in the mean time if youre gonna run fixed back seat w/ harness bar you really need some type of roll over protection there is alot of mixed info on this subject but i promise you would be better off with out the harness bar and just the stock seat belt if your going to run fixed back w/ harness bar w/o roll cage even a back half bolt like the auto power is the minimum imagine you roll over then the roof collapse youre strapped to a fixed seat that will keep you strapped against the seat and the seat wont be able to even "fall" back because the harness bar will keep you straight up your head will be stuck in the crush zone and the first point of contact. just advice that was given to me from experts that run a shop specializing in racing seats.
@Gripworkz
@Gripworkz 2 жыл бұрын
Oh we understand that, and we’re working to get a roll bar for this car asap, we are very limited in the budget department. But to us a fixed back racing seat like this is a must for time attack as it helps so much with car control. Having to fight your own body staying in place while cornering is very distracting. We appreciate the safety tips though!

I feel ya on budget I'm doing an unexpected motor build er rebuild (twice in less than a year) after just doing suspension brakes aero and going turbo this off-season was supposed to be cage and some more aero until motor blew so I do the same thing use the fixed back for time attack/track days as the stock Integra seats are worthless and I have 6 point Momo harnesses to go w/ my momo fixed back seat just per advice of 425 Motorsports a local recaro momo sparco omp & race tech distributor/vendor I'm just running the momo seat with stock seatbelt until I get the cage installed and actually removed the harness bar I did have until cage also if you're doing any global time attack or super lap battle events they require roll over protection minimum 4 point with any fixed back seat so I'm just praying I can get it done and afford it in time for this season's west coast events the ridge and buttonwilow

A more subtle way of weight reduction is the use of alternative metals, for example you could get aluminum fenders, door skins, hood & trunk. And if you got the cheese, you could go even crazier and get a carbon fiber air intake & replace the glass with lexane.
@Gripworkz
@Gripworkz Жыл бұрын
A lot of those are valid but expensive solutions. Removing unnecessary components is a free and effective technique. Also, a lot of the body parts on these cars are already very lightweight such as the fenders. Replacing them will reduce some weight but not enough to justify the cost in our opinion. The reason why many people buy fenders for these old Hondas is either for the added width to clear a wider tire, or for the aesthetics. Hoods will reduce weight but not by much. We find that reducing weight should first be done by upgrading parts that are already there. For example: factory rear lower control arms vs aftermarket aluminum control arms are a good handling upgrade while also reducing weight. We usually leave bodywork for last as it doesn’t make as big of an affect as what I mentioned before. There are also limitations of what we can do to remove weight as per the time attack class we compete in. Vtec Club N2 class does not allow lexan windows, and it does not allow cutting or modifying the unibody.
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
As he said, the door skins, fenders, hood, trunk, and intake is pretty light already and replacing them just for weight reduction would be a terrible value. Lexan windows seem like a good idea, but I imagine they would probably get scratched and cloudy over time like plastic headlights.
@Gripworkz
@Gripworkz Жыл бұрын
There are many things I want to do to this car in order to reduce weight further, lexan windows being one of them. But the class I compete in calls for all factory glass. My intention is to see N2 class through and possibly grab the championship. If that happens I can jump up to a faster class and I’ll be allowed to do more “racecar” things to this car.

Gutted my cb7 and it made a huge difference with no ac, ps, full gutt. Once you figure a light battery, chromoly flywheel is close to a 10# drop. Race header weighs less than the heavy stock exhaust manifold. Even the stock exhaust is heavier than a ebay 3" exhaust. With sound deadening removed i was looking at around 300 pounds lost. Accord seats weigh so much. Thanks for the content 130#s out of a civic is pretty good

130lbs is a lot. Its like adding 5hp to a go kart which is a huge difference, for the go kart at least lol. But if you decide to remove the AC system, i think thats like another 30 to 40lbs or so.
@Gripworkz
@Gripworkz 2 жыл бұрын
And we’re not done! Part 2 is coming next. As far as the AC goes though I really don’t see myself removing it anytime soon. I want to see how far I can take this car without losing those core comforts like AC, PS and a stereo. No promises though we would like to get on the podium soon lol

cut doors, remove any metal bolted to the chassis that does not serve a purpose to the rigidity of the car. Lexan all the windows besides the front windshield.. cut or remover rear bumper to freeflow air out the rear better instead of being trapped under the rear bumper that causes a slight drag.. Take out AC and heater. Side mirror delete. Get rid of Power steering and use a manual steering rack...Easily a good win! 220-250hp motor .. shiet tons of fun!

after removing seatbelts motor or airbags depending on the car you have you might get an airbag warning light in the dash, in my car this warning makes my driver seatbelt tighten on me when at speeds higher than 10 KMH, to get rid of this warning light i removed the A/BAG IND fuse from my fusebox and that fixed it. just in case someone had the same problem as me

Horsepower? You don’t gain any horsepower by losing weight but a lighter car will do most things better. And yes it will definitely affect fuel mileage
@growingup4487
@growingup4487 Жыл бұрын
You're getting a faster power to weight, the engine works less so you get more MPG. The tires aren't going have as much Weight on them through corner so you have more grip. it's all upsides with no downsides

@Gripworkz 3 ай бұрын
@damirbajic4579 We don’t race in the rain. Events out here sometimes get canceled if it rains. If someone oils down the track we get flagged to pull off the track. Dirt yes but we wipe windshields down between sessions. Time attack cars don’t need wipers. If this was a wheel to wheel competition car then yes, we would need wipers. But since we wait for ideal conditions to achieve the best possible lap times, wipers are just dead weight to us.
@damirbajic4579

@Gripworkz I raced... Nobody evere removed wipers tho. Plenty of other things including AC but not the wipers. Savings is 2 small and car becomes usless. Point is to have as little weight as possible and still be road legal to be able to drive to and from event on your own. But again, you do you, enjoy and I wish you all the luck. Stay safe.
@Gripworkz
@Gripworkz 3 ай бұрын
That is not the point, these cars are not road legal and they get towed to and from racetracks. They are dedicated race cars. But yes, you do you.
