the early vibe of naruto was that of a dystopian steampunk japan in an alternate future of 80s japan.. kind of like a mad max of ninjas. its was a grounded setting that reflected on the fights which were more personal intimate gritty and gory and filled with body horror and psychological warefare. even the design of characters was good they looked unique mean and ruthless and that reflected on the fights. it was a dystopian world where teenagers where raised to be merciless killers it felt like the stakes are high because of the severe consequences of each fight like broken bone torn muscles dismemberment it kept the tension high despite the scales being smaller which also made the world feel bigger and more threatening there was a general plot happening in which the small subplots of our characters played their small roles in it which made it immersive .. looking at early naruto you would think the story would be about tactical ninja espionage wars with pychological elements and set of unique well written characters that interact with eachothe within a set pricise rules ..then show got popular so they had to make it more marketable and kid friendly..it lost all the violence stakes casualtities injuries .it turned from a show about ninjas to power rangers of justice. everyone became so friendly. remember the introduction of ninjas in the written chunin exam everyone looked like an ice cold killer now that vibe is gone now everyone feels like an average suburbian 15 years old ..every fight became a therapy session and everything was about emotionality thats why thee is a lack of effort put inot the magic system ..the incosistensies you mention dont even scatch the surface.. like how does orochimaru transfrm himself into a serpant how does sasuke have lightning and fire elemental control what happened to chakra limits why doesnt fire burn people how does water hurt people are knives and throwing weapons even worth using ..why do fighters even use their fists when they can hold a weapond and stab and use that chance to deal real damage ....plot convinience talking about plot holes doesnt nauto have any uncles or grandparents or distant relatives and why the peoplle in konioha mean to him early on even tho they know he is the sons of a dead hero painting them as shallow and tribal but by the end eveyone suddenly empâthic and kind and understanding and wht does sasuke get 3 followers showing him absolute loyalty for no reason..i can go on and on .... the plot used to happens around the charatcers but by the end plot happended FOR the 2 main characters... .. sadly by the end it lost most of its atmosphere charm and never fullfilled the early promise which was a 'hxh' scale story in terms of tactics and focus on warefare...idk maybe the author wasnt allowed to complete his vision because of censorship or he just witten himself into a corner with all the early characters introduced or maybe he had a great concept but didnt know how to expand upon it

Hashirama's actually has a possible explanation if you read between the lines: the first time we see Tsunade's regeneration, Shizune says that it shortens the user's lifespan since cells can only reproduce so much. Hashirama pretty much had a suped-up version of that which was active 24/7, and he spent most of his life in various conflicts. Meaning that, while he was unkillable in battle, his lifespan was probably a lot shorter than it should've been (plus, unlike Tsunade, he wasn't directly part Uzumaki as far as we know). Also, having to (as far as he knew) kill Madara probably put a damper on his spirits and lessened his will to live, which didn't help. Looking at the timeline, it's even likely that Hashirama's premature death was what gave the other villages the confidence to trigger the First Great Ninja War.

To fix the Chidori issue, just put building up insane speeds is just a part of the technique which is why you need improved vision to avoid the downsides of going too fast. If you don't then It has lessened piercing power but is more usable for normal people.
