Thanks also for the memories. Came over the Copeland Pass in early 70s and was delighted to reach the old Welcome Flat hut which was very small and rudimentary at the time. So good to relive that experience through your vid.

The Copeland holds a special place in my tramping life. In August 1973 I spent three weeks on a geology field trip in this valley - exploring side creeks and high rock exposures. It was my first trip to the South Island and I recall being completely unprepared mentally for the scale and challenge of these valleys once you leave the track. A vax triggered autoimmune condition - myasthenia gravis - means its unlikely ever get to visit these places again, so videos like this bring a real sense of gratitude and calm. It's astonishing how the body remembers these experiences - they come flooding back from 50 years ago and become real in the moment. Thank you.

Hey mate thats cool, I would love to stay in there for 3 weeks, the hut warden was telling me about a thunder storm they recently had in there, he said it was incredible the sounds of thunder around the valley, and the lighting constantly flashing, I wish I was there to see that, Thanks for your comment, glad to see that it brings back fond memorys for you👍👍

Great effort mrs Carter!! Been there a few years ago in mid winter with some mates it’s a big walk big country funny story: I got up early to head out for a hunt 2 very attractive Canadian ladies walked past from the bunk area totally starkers heading for the pools …. Me mouth wide open with porridge falling off me spoon My mates were sound asleep and missed the show ( the girls would have walked right past them) I made sure I rubbed it in -as they say: the early worm catches the bird
