The WeldTube adapter is kinda nice considering you don't have to cut the front of your hood. But I don't like how it mounts. The little clips that hold it on become loose and the attachment starts to fall off from the hood on one side or the other when you're looking down, causing it to allow light in. I just tightened them and clamped them down with pliers. It is convenient if you just need to throw one on and don't want to modify the hood though.

I just got my weld tube flip adapter and I love it! if they can make one for the pancake that would be great. I added a miller or Jackson one to my pancake and it's just really heavy and uncomfortable on the nose.

I tried the Sellstrom on my helmet quite a while back and the biggest problem was how much it stuck into the helmet. It literally was touching my nose. I ended up with a standard flip front Fibre Metal helmet and love the way it fits. The simple head gear works better then any of the fancy stuff I have tried.

Amen, we have $345 Lincoln electric auto darkening welding hoods where I teach, you can't just buy head gear or clearlenses from anywhere they got to be Lincoln, they break easy too many parts 2x4 regular lenses don't work, I took 2 Fibre metal flip scoops, kids Love them, flip and grind or buff, faces are protected, comfortable, weld better, for way better price, easy to adjust, that's from my students

I have the sellstrom as well on my sugar scoop. The extra wieght is noticeable but the worst thin with mine is the clear lens retainer inside the helmet keeps breaking and will barely hold the inside plate in. They are cheap and to get a new one you have to purchase the whole kit again. Last one was about 50 bucks now.

I do have a weldtube flip up and like it but I will say when I was working at a power plant and going all over the place making welds I had my hood on my bad and I guess it was getting bumper a little and the clear lens that holds the flip up on popped out of one of the sides and I almost lost my lens and flip up and I use a could of extra things being it now to try and help keep it from falling out but since then I don't trust it and also on weight I feel that when you compared the weight you should have included the difference after the hood would be getting the material cut out so it might be closer but other than that great video

Structural welder here , I’ve been using the weld tube adapter for the past 2 years , from job bins , 30ft drops , left in the rain and more and I’d choose it over the sellstorm any day , . What I would really like to see next is solid lenses comparison !!! Weld tube aqua lense , a regular solid lense and I’ve even heard there are orange and red lense! I weld a lot and heard the gold plated ones on the front reduced some eye fatigue, can anyone attest to that ? I also have another hood , the digital elite with x mode and still run to my sugar scoop with the weld tube adapter.

First and foremost, perfect video. Thanks for doing this. I agree with you, that weldtube is much better. I myself only use passive helmets and have been dabbing into many different types. I use the Foroney Bandit III as of now. The lid is comfortable but my major issue is the front flip opens when looking down. So I bought small 🧲 's to lock it in place with crazy glue lol it works.. I'm still on the look out for that 1 gem of a passive helmet, somthing that will blow me away with style and all round comfort.

If you want to Shield that doesn't weigh a ton that pipeliner is going to weigh 10 lb on your head once you put one of those install flip lenses in it go get you a port of shell baby for the shell online I think it's Northern Tool but it's a port of shell or a port of shell baby weighs half the white then this thing's going to White when he puts that lens in it

My question is why do all this when you can just buy a tiger hood made by the same company that makes the sugar scoop hoods, that’s basically the same thing with a factory flip up (literally identical from the bottom of the lens up) just a little longer but easy to trim to desired neck length.. also almost half the price as that pipeliner hood..
@Parttimeweld
@Parttimeweld Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I have a tiger hood myself and I love it. I would think having a fiber glass hood would be better for those who do a lot of position and overhead welds vs the plastic tiger hood. Haven’t used the tiger hood long enough to confirm that but based on what I see so far the tiger hood seems like it will burn up faster. Maybe warp from a lot of heat idk.
@All-things-shitbox
@All-things-shitbox Жыл бұрын
@@Parttimeweld I’m a pipe fitter/welder by trade and my tiger hoods held up fine for the last 2 years of every day use but I’ve also never owned a sugar scoop to know if there really is any benefit to the FG over plastic. Mine does have quite a few pits melted into it but so far nothings burned through or warped. Honestly thought they were the same material. Those were my 2 reasons for buying it, tiger was $40 when I bought it and a pipe liner was running nearly $100 then and I wanted a flip front regardless of whichever I bought.
@Parttimeweld
@Parttimeweld Жыл бұрын
@@All-things-shitbox I absolutely agree. I’m glad your tigerhood is holding up for that long because I absolutely love it. Thanks for your comment and honestly. I want to make a video on that hood in the near future. This information helps!
@clay10h77
@clay10h77 10 ай бұрын
I totally get where you are coming from and I myself am running the tiger for my combo. I would like to do away with it though do to the heavy weight and this review is certainly pertains to what I'm looking for to make a decision on a carbon fiber sugar scoop. I wish actually someone would come out with a tiger lid or varient of the sugar scoop to fit a respirator that was carbon fiber that would solve everything in most cases. A sugar scoop doesn't give much room for a respirator when attached to a hard hat. The tiger is more awkward in tight areas but holds up to heavy gouging and welding. The right hood is almost as important as the right type of stinger.

Do not recommend weld tubes flip up adapter at all if you want to break an expensive piece of glass the plastic retaining clip if just too flimsy and the metal clips will slide off had to mash them in with pliers to stay on but after a while the get loose and start to slide out again letting light in also with the retaining clip it it needs some re designing and extra security if just those two slots are what’s keeping it in place
