Science!!! I think velocity was a contributing factor here. The press moved at a slower rate of speed although it had more power behind it. Score 1 for John Henry (I mean Wranglerstar)
@angeryanimal398
@angeryanimal398 Жыл бұрын
Idk that doesn't seem right, i bet the axe had more power to it and was sharper than the press, as if we calculate the power of the axe we would have to use velocity and the weight and the length of the handle, which equates to an xNM of force, with the same technique you would calculate the NM of the press and i guess the axe had more power behind it plus knowing wranglestar its most likely hair shaving sharp and that's what split the wood
@angeryanimal398
@angeryanimal398 Жыл бұрын
Velocity wont change much if you dont have the power behind it, if the axe had the weight of 10000 suns and you dropped it .1mm it wouldve split it because of the power behind it, meaning that the press didnt have enough power or wasnt sharp enough

@ninjanyan1579
@ninjanyan1579 Жыл бұрын
@@angeryanimal398 "velocity won't change much if you don't have the power behind it" The force that causes the axe to split the log is kinetic energy. The formula for kinetic energy is 1/2MxA^2. This means that the mass of an object means much less than it's speed. What would be worse, a semi at 5mph or a little car at 10? The force that the press uses is hydraulic pressure. The higher the pressure, the more force is applied to the log/blade. The sharpness of the blade just determines how much force it takes to split the log.

Some trees do absorb extra minerals from the ground in order to have extra tough wood that resists being split. These minerals, such as silica and calcium oxalate, are deposited in the cell walls of the wood, making it harder and more resistant to splitting. Some trees mentioned by many as having tough wood resisting wear or random splitting are: Oak, Hickory, Maple, Ash, Locust, and Ironwood.
