In this short video series we are going to talk about the different chickens breeds that we raise at KC Farms. Chickens have always been known as the gateway animals to homesteading. They are super efficient animals and serve so many great purposes on the farm.
In this video we talk about our wonderful welsummer chickens. They are good layers of light to dark brown speckled eggs that make any eggs basket look great. We also talk about our two speckled sussex that got mixed in on our last order.

We have 3 welsummer hens and they are always clean and pretty, one has spurs which I was shocked at. The eggs are an amazing color combo and nice rich color inside. I really liked your speckled sussex. Your daughter needs a high-five for catching ms.sussex.Thanks for the video.

I like these two breeds the Welsummer and the Speckled Sussex. What pretty hens! So sad you lost chickens to predators. If it's a hawk, I heard that black chickens in your flock are a deterrent. The hawks think they are crows and they hate crows harassing them, so leave them alone. Australorp is a good one. A heavy layer.

Great video! Which are your overall best breed, the speckled sussex or the welsummers? I have a half grown flock of fifteen speckled sussex and I’m thinking of expanding my flock next spring with some welsummers.

Choosing. A best breed is hard because they all have a specific purpose for us. As far as amount of eggs the Easter eggers probably lay the most although we only have 2 Sussex and they lay pretty much everyday. Welsummers don’t lay as much but we love the look of their eggs. I would definitely add Welsummer

How many eggs do welsummers lay a year?

I have seen anywhere from 160-200 on the internet. It seems most of your chickens that lay darker or the cooler looking eggs don’t lay as many annually and you traditional brown or white layers. We got them because the eggs are awesome looking and make your egg basket stand out. Hope this helps.

Welcome. We don’t have leghorns but I have read that they can lay 280-300 per year. We are looking at adding a commercial egg layer this year to the farm that lays around 300 per year we will have updates as soon as we get them!

The more you start researching online the more it seems like owning anything other than ISA Browns or White Leghorns for eggs or "Broilers" for meat or Bresse if you have A buyer ......... is COMPLETELY POINTLESS. It makes it seem deviating from that is indulging A hobby.
