MATTERHORN MEGA PROJECT: Building Europe’s Highest Cable Car | WELT Documentary
The Matterhorn is the site of one of Europe's most ambitious cable car projects, designed to connect Switzerland with Italy. This extraordinary construction effort at over 3800 meters altitude faces extreme weather conditions that can change six times a day. The project involves heavy cargo deliveries by helicopter, making it a remarkable feat of engineering and logistics. The goal is to create Europe’s highest alpine cable car, linking Klein Matterhorn in Switzerland to Testa Grigia in Italy.
Working at such high altitudes presents numerous challenges, including thin air, freezing temperatures, and the need for specialized machinery. Every component is pre-assembled in South Tyrol to ensure perfect fitting when transported to the construction site. The construction team, battling harsh weather, must maintain precision and safety at all times. This project is not just about building a cable car; it is about overcoming nature’s obstacles with innovation and resilience.
The Matterhorn Glacier Ride aims to become a monumental achievement in the Alps, enhancing connectivity and tourism between the two countries. The cable car system features state-of-the-art technology, ensuring smooth and stable rides even in strong winds. Once completed, it will offer breathtaking views and a seamless travel experience across the iconic mountain range. This project underscores the engineering prowess and determination required to achieve such an extraordinary goal.

"At 3,800 meters, every bolt has to be in place...!" That's something I didn't expect ...
@philscott7949
@philscott7949 2 ай бұрын
The roof on a new stadium in Detroit collapsed because the team putting it together thought it would flex better under extreme weather variations if they left half the bolts out. When they rebuilt it, the engineers had to explain the roof was designed to flex with ALL the bolts in.

5 minutes explaining exactly what problem they have solved would have been nice. Is there a tunnel for people to walk through to the other cable car at the top? How do people get to the base station which is just 1.5km lower than the peak?

Been there last week, absolutely impressive to stand at almost 3900 meters and have a closeup view of the Breithorn, a 4000+ meter peak. To all the haters: not exactly sure what it’s “ruining”, the Swiss and Italians have a knack for making mountains accessible in a non-intrusive way.

Interesting, the testing on the wires and components was done at a lower altitude and a normal temperature, let’s hope it holds up to the extreme conditions where it counts

Overall great channel with docs like they used to be!! Not sure if you are the producers of the docs themselves. If you have influence, here's some well-intended feedback: All the docs that I've seen have, in my opinion, oversimplified or "dumbed things down" too much. Sometimes even minor factual errors just to swoop over a detail instead of diving in a little bit deeper.Also just in this one I think you don't need to fade the music. Keep it at the lower level as a maximum. Thank you for your hard work!

Good doch, but who is the narrator? Can anyone tell him that compound nouns are stressed on part one, not two? It‘s _return_ trip, not return _trip_ _waiting_ game, not waiting _game_ _quality_ standards, not quality _standards_ _rear_ part, not rear _part_ _custom_ manufactured, not custom _manufactured_ . air can’t be soo hard. Professional speakers should do better!

Why are they building this cable car system in the first place? Who are the commuters who need this? Or is it yet another pricey tourist trap at 100 francs per ride?

It is certainly not intended for commuters, tourists, skiers who want to go from the Italian to the Swiss side (or vice versa). This trip alone certainly doesn't cost CHF 100, but I wouldn't expect it to be cheap either.

YIKES! 60 million Euros sure sounds impressive! But um.....hold on there folks; cause once again it's California that REALLY knows how to SPEND money; Ladies and Gentlemen; I give you the puny, 200 hundred long, Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing outside of Los Angeles that is projected to cost $92 MILLION ! (84,579,280. Euro!!!) It's basically a "Disneyland style" bridge over the 101 highway for deer and mountain lions. America; FOOK YEAH!

I know it’s added for drama, but one needs to be careful how many times they say how it’s being built on a strict deadline….. I personally won’t interact with machinery that was built according to timeline rather than quality. Use China and their many belt and road projects for example. It’s all falling apart…..Tom
