Ash Pagelsdorf Did you have success on the extension tables? I want to buy this but am concerned about jointing long boards.

​@@Ucisneros it worked great, what i did for a quick fix was cut a 12" x 8' strip from a 3/4" 4x8. then centered the unit and i had some extra basic cheap cabinet shelves so i cut it in half. then i added 4 legs for each side from a 4x4 post, attaching those with some 2" construct screws and recessed to not scrap the board passing. (the reason i used this shelf also was that the laminate was very very smooth and slippery so the boards would slide very well) make sure the output side is just under the unit's shelf, you dont want to take a chance with it getting hung up when you push it through. as long as you maintain a good hold on the boards to the output side while making sure the board is feed evenly it worked very well. i have uploaded photos to my Google Drive to show you my progress with this. this fast shelf was what i needed now, i plan to create a separate workbench just for this unit with also a metal inlay top. it will look similar to what i have now, but not so i have to kneel to work on them - hahaha - it works though! one other mention though... I added a Tension Spring with two large nuts to the Depth Gauge Dial. what i found was this dial is too loose and as i was cutting the boards it would actually 'increase the depth itself' which is a huge problem. this keeps it right where i want it and it wont move now.... i forget what the spring and nuts were, but i will get you a comment back on this aspect. trust me for an entry level unit this is perfect until i can justify the JET industrial one i want! drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GzitkI5bNw8FS3ViBppjDVSsD-a5psM3?usp=sharing

My plan is it invest some more time and money into wood working and take it to the next level so I wanna make the best choices for my position. But yea, I’m like you, those higher end tools would be sweet to have.

Thanks for the comment. Keep in mind that if you buy it from Home Depot, you have 90 days to return it. If the beds are not coplanar out of the box, think about returning it because I think it'll be really difficult to adjust. Otherwise, it's been great so far--perfect for a small shop where you need to move it around a lot (like I do).

@@knotnowwoodworking Well.. I love it. Had it since Saturday and it's been great at squaring-up the 1x3 and 1x4 oak, poplar, aspen and pine that I use for my Etsy shop. I haven't tried it on Alder yet.... Will really have to watch the knots and splits. Thank you again for an excellent video!

I can go on a real rant about the state of dust ports. I have two Ridgid machines, one requires the flexible coupling, the other fits my hose without it. Makes me nuts. It wouldn't be rocket science for manufactures to standardize these things. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

Hi Ross. I don't see how the cutter guard comes off--there is no fastener on the top, so it must come off from the bottom, but I have not figured it out. Anyone else out there know how it comes off?

I've been in the middle of moving and rebuilding my shop, so I haven't had a chance to joint longer boards, but I think it would be a challenge with this small jointer. At the very least you may need a helper, or create a jointer station with longer in-feed and out-feed beds.

Joint one face and one edge. then make the other edge parallel with your table saw. Then plane the remaining face.

A while ago someone else commented on that as well. At the time I didn't think so--maybe it's the camera angle?

The one I built for the planer might be a little too heavy-duty, but when you build from scraps, that's what you get.

I'm going to make a 'mounting plate' out of 3/4 ply. I'll put a rib along one edge which will sit in the miter groove of my table saw. When in use the rib & miter will keep the jointer from moving on me.

In the time between now and doing that review, I moved and had to rebuild my shop and finish my basement, so I've haven't been doing any woodworking (that's also why I haven't posted any new videos). So, I've not had a chance to use the jointer extensively. The biggest problem for me is not having the jointer secured to a surface. So, unless clamped or some how secured, it'll move when you push through your work piece. The jointer itself, however, works fine each time I use it.

In the past year I moved and have been busy finishing my basement and building a new shop, so I haven't actually used the jointer too much. But the little I have used it, it's been fine. Still happy...

Hi Kristi. A lot has chaged in my life so I'm not doing much woodworking lately, sorry. I've have used the Wen jointer since the review and it has continued to serve me well. I do own several Wen products and they all have held up. Thanks for watching my video.

A 2"x2" flex coupler is intended for a 2" nominal pipe. The pipe does't really measure 2", it's larger, so it fits the shop vac and jointer just fine. Ok, I just went and measured to be sure. The fitting on my 2.5" shop vac hose is just under 2.25". The flex coupler is just over 2.25", so it fits fine.

Wow, a year later already. Well, it's been a hectic year--I've moved and am building a new workshop (that's why I haven't posted in a while). Actually haven't had a change to use the Wen as much as I'd like, but I'd say yeah, still a good deal.

I don't have the jointer anymore, but I'm pretty sure it was the 2x2 hubless coupling that fit the 2.5" port. If you buy it at Home Depot, there's no problem returning it if I'm not remembering correctly. Plumbing sizes are nominal, hardly anything measures the same as the rated size.

I use one wax for everything--my tools and my products: Minwax Paste Finishing Wax. I not saying this is the best, there are many fine waxes available. This one is readily available and works for me.

There have been follow up remarks scattered throughout the comments. In short, yes, still like it, use it onlly occasionally becuase of moving in the past year and building new shop. Still works great...

I just recently posted this review, I haven't done the follow-up yet. You can expect it in July or August.

I'm not at the jointer right now, but i think the problem was that the screws for adjusting are located on the plates so, if you turn it upside down, you can't tighten the screws.

It shouldn't be doing what you describe. You might want to return it for another.

Hi James. I use Minwax Finishing wax for both my finished products and equipment tables (table saw, band saw, jointer, etc.). Works great and a can lasts a long, long time.

Under the in-feed table is an orange knob that adjusts the height. Very easy to use.

@@colemahaney880 No, that knob is for adjusting the depth of cut--it moves the in-feed table up and down.

@@colemahaney880 You can on the Wen as well, you do it if the heads are out of alignment. It uses a hex wrench to adjust some gib screws (Page 14 in the manual).

Thanks for your comments. I got pretty good at jointing with my planer, so never bothered getting a real jointer--space was the real problem. I've moved in the past year and still don't have space for a floor-standing jointer. I hate to admit it, but right now my jointer is resting on top of my planer. I've not been able to make any videos lately, but am planing a general "what I like and don't like" about all my equipment. Stay tuned...

@@knotnowwoodworking I'm subscribed! Any tips and tricks would make great videos. Making space is a hassle. Im torn because all the small benchtop stuff is ideal for the space I have, but I know I'm going to be disappointed in the tools performance. Trying to figure out what I can skimp out on and what to go with a heavier duty machine. I could make room for a floor jointer, but theyre a bit pricey for anything over 6". I think the WEN 8" Jointer (JT833H) might be the ticket if the model you reviewed worked well. Same power, but bigger table and a spiral cutter head.
