Loosen the screw in the center and move the cut depth indicator pointer so that it points to zero when it's supposed to.

I've had this Wen spiral cut jointer and it will give you an incredibly smooth surface. For the money, it's a fantastic deal. If there's a weak area, it's the fence - it's OK, but not as secure for heavier pieces. After having it for 2 years, my only thoughts for all of you considering this jointer is to save up and get the Wen 8 inch jointer. Yes, it's about $160 more. However, you get an 8 inch wide jointer capability along with a longer infeed and outfeed table. Trust me, it'll be be a lot better to invest the extra cash and get a piece of equipment that will make your woodworking projects considerably easier.

Thank you Michael, I really appreciate it. I just made another cutting board and jointed the strips last week after having stored the jointer about a month and it worked without any issues. Perfectly flat faces. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the review. I've been wanting a jointer for years and this review has me ordering it tonight. It's one of the last wood working tools for my garage shop to be able to do pretty much any project now.

I have to agree! I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the Wen tools I have. I though I broke the bandsaw blade but it just popped out of place so I just put it back on and good as new. User error of course but it was a pleasant surprise that it didn’t break.

Make yourself a good push block. I cringed when I saw you plane that piece of wood. Great info!

After I realized how close I was, I started using the push pads/blocks that came with it. I was definitely too close for sure.

What I did was clamp some 90 degree positioning squares to the fence while screwing in the top screw to keep them from moving.

Once you get it it’s pretty solid and it hasn’t moved on me! I just moved and so we’ll see how it held up once I use it again.

Your review was exactly what I would say. The fence is such a pain. I just got mine last week and I'm still trying to get it squared at 90 and stay there. If you can suggest anything more please let me know!

Hey Tim thanks for the comment and congrats on the purchase I know you’ll love it…after you get your fence straight. I think what helped me was overcompensating to one side or the other allowing it to get square once fully tightened. I truly wish I could give you more tips but that’s what helped me. Also my fence is not touching the top of the bed. It is above it. So I would suggest that but I do comment on that in the video as well.

At first I tried a speed square, then two, but finished with using a length of L-angled aluminum straight edge that I got with an inexpensive table saw. It is about 10 inches long. I'm still not sure about it's intended use with the tablesaw. I'm thinking, perhaps it is used to help align the tablesaw fence. Anyways, it came in handy to brace the jointer fence pre-tightening.

Most jointers are made in the same factory in china. they difference is really the accessories and adjustment s at the factory. I have not tried but I was told many of the brand accessories are interchangeable.

I’ve seen a diagram where all the brands and parent brands are grouped. Google “brand manufacturers” and check out the images and you should get the diagram.

Let me help yon with the depth gauge issue. After you get the table depth set to true zero adjust the pointer to point at zero. Just loosing the screw, adjust it, and tighten the screw. There, fixed :)

Can someone please tell me the proper way to get the infeed and out feed table to a true co plain .i bought this exact jointer and it was way off right out of the box .i have tried for hours and cannot get it dead level …any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.I’ve called Wen several times and haven’t gotten any help

Thanks for the video it was very informative and helpful. I was wondering though did you purchase any extended warrantys? I looked on Amazon to see what the manfacturers warranty was out of the box but I didn't see it listed. I imagine it's just a one year warranty.

No warranty added but they’re dire days 2 year warranty so even better. I haven’t had to replace anything in the year I’ve had it and surprisingly it has stayed square. Still very happy with this purchase.

Hey great review, I have this same model being delivered in a few days. Looking forward to saving a ton of time not having to sand 5-1/2" wide cedar fence pickets! Cringed when I saw you get your fingers that close to the blades but I read another comment that you're using push blocks now. Can't beat a comfortable push stick, as long as it's not one of those birds mouth ones that only touches the back corner of the wood. I have one that's like a combination of a push pad and push stick and it's perfect

I watched it myself and yeah its a cringe moment. Thankfully no digits were lost and now use the push blocks. Congrats on the new tool! It’s for sure a nice one!

Just got one and set it up. It's leaving a small lip on the edge of the boards for me too. Any other advice? Been messing with it for the last hour.

Check the time stamp around 5:09. I had this issue too. I ended up raising my fence off of the outfeed table. I had it touching originally and had that lip too.

@@aetimberpine Hey man! Just wanted to give an update and hopefully help anyone else who couldn't figure it out. For me, it was not adjusting the fence up or down but rather forward and backward. I have the fence set too far back which wasn't making full contact with the board so it was leaving a lip on it. Thanks again for your help! God bless!

I really wanted to like this but the fence kills it for me. The fence has got to be rock solid and not deflect when you push against it.

Thankfully I haven’t experienced any movement while using it. But I am extra careful when pulling it out because I don’t want to have to setup that fence again. But I can definitely see why you’d go with another option. I didn’t have to be so difficult to put the fence on!

Re: the planer/jointer mixup around 5:30. I remember being taught as a kid, either by my neighbor or in shop class (maybe both) that this tool was called a planer. It seemed to make sense at the time given what a similar job they did to a hand planer, and back then I hadn't encountered the power tool I now know as a planer. This got pretty confusing recently when I decided to get back into woodworking and looked around for them, and kept searching for "planer." I dunno, maybe it was a term people used for these colloquially at the time? Maybe it was just a regional mistake where I grew up?

Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your story! I’ve always known it as a jointer (fairly new woodworker) but I think in my case it was a case of camera jitters or something even though it’s just me and a camera lol!

I took basic cabinet making in industrial arts in my junior and senior years of high school, 1981, 1982. At that time, we used both jointer and planer. By the way, I have this Wen jointer and ran my first test piece this evening. It came out nicely, having checked the 90 degree angles with a combination square. Upon watching your review earlier, today, I couldn't get the fence out of mind, knowing first thing I would be recalibrating it when I got home. I used the little hex screw on the left, looking from the rear, to fine tune the adjustment but am not for certain what the right hex screw is for. Is that a stop for when the fence is angled?

How long of a board can you run through this?

As long as you can do it safety I’m sure there’s no limit. Setup a good outfeed table. Secure it if you need to. And practice good safety, you could do some larger pieces. There’s no exact answer as the answer is subjective to each person.

People who do not know the machine, how to use them, the terminology associated with the machine should not be reviewing them. You could potentially get someone hurt or give out false or just bad information.. maybe get some experience with the items ur looking to review and if possible use as many different brands/styles as possible so that u have something to compare to instead of just saying , I like this or that because it's clicks, oh and it's cheap, I recommend.. no Bueno amigo.

Price was only one of the reasons why I recommend it. And these are my opinions on what stood out to me as a beginner. And you’re right, comparison videos are good, but not necessary. Regardless hopefully you were able to take something away from it. If not, hope you find what you need to make an informed decision.

Sorry about that, I was not thinking straight because I was 15 chrome tabs in on different models I was trying to figure out which one to buy. I still have not made my mind up.
