I just like how the devil gives these long, well thought out, and eloquent speeches only for Christ to essentially be like “you know what dude *starts rubbing his temples* just do whatever it is your gonna do” the only thing the devil was truly tempting was Christ’s patience.

If anything people being like "maybe the devil was the good guy/misunderstood" from these books are just testaments to how well written they are. Depicting a figure widely known to be evil but with incomparable charisma, to write that figure in such a charismatic way that it even tricks the reader is quite the feat

ya, in the poem he’s described as a handsome man. Sin is tempting, attractive, and deceitful. If the devil is supposed to embody sin and evil, it would make sense that he would be charismatic and relatable on a surface level.

Because that's ALL the devil can do. He's powerless in any material sense. All he can do is tempt. Of course he'd have to get pretty good at it. He knows he's going to lose in the end. he knows he's outmatched. He's just a petulant child trying to flip over the game board before he inevitably loses and bring down as many people with him as possible. He's really a pathetic character when you get down to it.

I am very glad to hear that you are rebuilding that connection, and your dad is opening up to your beliefs. Speaking from personal experience, a lot of old school religious people are hesitant to accept anything beyond what they were taught. I love God. The infinite presence of love, a being without being. Although, I am very against religion in general, as I've seen far too many people be hurt and pushed away from God, or innocent people become brainwashed cult members from what a religion teaches. Regardless of what you call it, putting God in a box is limiting the infinite and seems to just be an excuse for people to gain power as they "Speak for God".

BIBLE ERRORS AND CONTRADICTIONS The Bible is not historically accurate⬇️⬇️⬇️ Contradiction #1 Who incited David to count the fighting men of Israel? (a) God did (2 Samuel 24:1) (b) Satan did (1 Chronicles 21:1). Contradiction #2 In that count how many fighting men were found in Israel? (a) Eight hundred thousand (2 Samuel 24:9). (b) One million, one hundred thousand (1 Chronicles 21:5). Contradiction #3 How many fighting men were found in Judah? (a) Five hundred thousand (2 Samuel 24:9). (b) Four hundred and seventy thousand (1 Chronicles 21:5). Contradiction #4 God sent his prophet to threaten David with how many years of famine? (a) Seven (2 Samuel 24:13). (b) Three (1 Chronicles 21:12). Contradiction #5 How old was Ahaziah when he began to rule over Jerusalem? (a) Twenty-two (2 Kings 8:26 ). (b) Forty-two (2 Chronicles 22:2). Contradiction #6 How old was Jehoiachin when he became king of Jerusalem? (a) Eighteen (2 Kings 24:8). (b) Eight (2 Chronicles 36:9). THESE ARE 6 OF MANY CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE. The Bible is not the word of God it has been corrupted and changed. If the Bible was the Actual Book of God it wouldn't have any mistakes. Also its not historically reliable.

Yes, explaining how it's totes logical, and not an incoherent , nonsensical contradiction (and 100% extra-biblical assumption) to claim Jesus as "fully god, yet fully man", is COMPLETELY "objective" and factual... ...And it DEFINITELY isn't just the Christian variant of the exact same goofball, evidence-free "spiritual" jibberish we get from Islam, Mormonism, Hindus, Scientology, Raeliens, or the stoner down the street after the "sacrament" of way too much kratom and solvent-huffing... I grew up Roman Catholic, and while I still believe in Jesus and God - I wouldn't feel comfortable calling myself a Catholic anymore, as the church has strayed far too much away from the Word of God and the teachings of the Bible for me to associate myself with, and tie my name to them. But while I may not believe in all of their teachings and practices anymore, I know what they taught me in my youth, and I am confused nowadays because I was taught that Jesus was the *SON* of God - not God, Himself - by the Catholic church. My CCD (catechism) classes taught me as such, as did my church's priest, and my mother who learned the same in Catholic school back in the '60s and '70s. I'm in my late 20s, and it's only been recently that I've seen Catholics describing Jesus literally as God - and it doesn't make sense to me as I specifically remember that Jesus prayed to God before the crucifixion, told his followers not to worship him and to instead worship God, that only God - not Jesus - knows the specific date and time the world will end, etc. And if Jesus is literally God, then why would the devil believe he can manipulate Him when he is as Jesus? Why would he offer Him the world, when God already had it? Plus, if Jesus is God, then that means man is able to kill God - and it means that the Jews and the Romans literally killed God - amongst many other problems and contradictions. It doesn't make sense to me that people claim Jesus is God, and I never thought this was a Catholic belief. I understand the Trinity is a Catholic belief, but as it's not in the Bible, I don't subscribe to it - but I get it - although I don't think that the Trinity literally equates Jesus to being God and instead just describes the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost (the spirit of God). If they were all the same thing, you wouldn't have to descibe each of them - you could just refer to one of them and the three parts would be a given. And if the Trinity were a real thing that somehow made it so God is literally Jesus, I strongly believe that Jesus would have told us this. He didn't. I do realize that as a human, I can never understand God fully - but I believe that if God wanted to be worshipped as such, he would have told us so directly, either through Jesus or one of His earlier prophets. But as I said, I'm just a human and can be wrong... ...So tell me Catholics, were you taught that Jesus IS God instead of was the son of God? If so, why do you believe this? Were any other Catholics taught what I was? I'm pretty intrigued by this revelation, as I've only heard of it recently and I'd like to know why and where this is all coming from as of late. Thanks for reading. Have a blessed day! 🌻

@@PeacePills. You seem to be ignorant of the true story of Scripture. You are creating a straw man's straw man. Satan did not give humanity intellect; he did not give humanity wisdom or knowledge; a fallen angel procreated with Eve, via Eve 'eating of the forbidden fruit.' Adam took her and accepted this transgression against him, raising Cain, of whom was the seed of the Fallen One, and not of his own seed, thus him sharing the forbidden fruit (Even convinced him not to throw her out and to partake in such things, so he did, thus spawning Abel). Adam got Eve pregnant with Abel (later Seth), and that is the Adamic seed; the seed of 'the snake' (Serpent seed) will always been at enmity with the seed of Adam (the Adamic seed). Cain is the seed of the serpent; this is why 'nobility' claim to be 'blue bloods' and of a separate race to that of 'humanity as a whole.' Rh- blood is a huge thing, with those having it being the true Adamic inheritors. The seed of Abraham is a specific subset of the Adamic race, of which YHWH's covenant is only with them (us). These is not 'j***,' as you might think, for they make up less than 5% of the inheritance. Lastly, the flood was not 'global,' and the Bible never says the flood was 'global;' it only makes mention that it covered the earth, and 'earth' translates to 'land.' SO, the Bible states that there was a flood that covered the land. This was a regional flood, which is how the seed of Cain was able to survive. The bible talks about seeds a lot, and this is physical descendants and offspring of people. A very, very recent phenomena is to push the notion that 'seed' means 'spiritual seed,' which is in total contradiction to Scripture. To even think in this way is to call YHWH a liar, which is hilarious for those that claim to be 'Christians.'
@pyropulseIXXI
@pyropulseIXXI Жыл бұрын
@@alexjustalexyt1144 There are no 'pearly gates.' The Bible makes no mention of people going to heaven when they die. It also makes no mention of anyone going to hell; the 'lake of fire' is not 'hell,' and those cast in the lake of fire receive the 'second death,' which is literally the death that atheists believe in (total non-existence). Modern Christianity is honestly a complete joke, not even understanding their own 'religion.' Modern Christianity is a creation of Jesuits and Rockefeller funded seminary schools disseminating a religious worldview meant to cause its 'sheep' to sleep and never awaken to the Truth. The Bible predicted this, in that the churches would all be false churches, its leaders false leaders, and its followers 'sheep easily lead astray,' being massively ignorant of the truth via their own laziness. To put it bluntly, the modern 'Christian' actually worships Lucifer without realizing it.

I think the saddest part of Lucifer's whole character is that his pride (which is his entire being) is the thing that stops him from understanding anything that Jesus says. He's so convinced that he's right, that he's blinded by alternate arguments. And then - I feel - that the reason he falls at Jesus' final rebuke is because he loses his grip on his pride even if it's for just a second.

I appreciate that Milton's portrayal of the devil and his associates, particularly that they are forced to react and respond to events that are happening in the world. Too often it's easy to think that the devil is omnipresent and omniscient in a sense, that he can read people's minds, that he knows everything that will happen etc. While he is probably more perceptive than most any human, he is nowhere near the level of knowledge and wisdom that God has. I just like seeing that.

I was prideful and arrogant and pretended god wasnt real, and he was cruel and unjust. I misunderstood and instead of researching and trying to understand, i let myself be blinded by hatred. One day, curiosity got the best of me and i went down the wendi-bible rabbit hole and i learned so much and loved every second. That day, i found my love for god. I regret being so arrogant and stubborn and i apologize to god every day. I hope he can forgive me, i know he is a loving and forgiving god, but it took 20 years for me to quit being so stubborn. And the thing is, i knew lots of scripture and preached it to others who were using it to be douchebags essentially. I wasnt about to let that slide, youre not going to use christianity as a weapon. And then 10 seconds later i pretended to be mad at god even after defending him 😂 i wasnt that bright, huh? But your faith wasn't strong enough to read the bible yourself?
@jonathandoe1367
@jonathandoe1367 8 ай бұрын
@@Kanggaxx I think the problem has more to do with time, energy, and understanding. For example, even the US Constitution is written above a college reading-level. Since the average person's reading-level is much lower than that, (at least in the States) it takes the average person significant time and effort to read the Constitution, if they can understand it at all. Shakespeare? Even worse. Now, imagine that, instead of a book written in Modern English a few hundred years ago, it was a book written in multiple ancient languages thousands of years ago. You can see how this might be a *tad* draining, especially if you have to juggle work and family on top of it. Add in the fact that ANE writers had a high-context culture, where you're expected to understand most of the context before you even pick up the book? And that much of this context was lost until recent archaeology has rediscovered it in the past few decades? Then add on the high level of artistic flourish, and the sheer volume of the text? There's a reason that personal Bible reading was never the main priority for the laity. I mean, low literacy rates and the high cost of printing were certainly factors as well, but this was the main reason. Scripture was historically read primarily in the Liturgy, and still is to this day. Personal Bible reading is always encouraged, but group Bible studies and the Church calendar have absolutely primacy of place. A common error I see among Atheists and Evangelicals is to act as if they're the first ones to read the Bible, and that whatever interpretation pops into their heads must obviously be the right one. Hate to break it to you, but even the world's leading Bible scholars have issues understanding everything, and I don't put much more faith in you. It really is that complex of a book. There's a reason why we scour Patristics and cite the Early Church Fathers. From the outset, there have been people who "read it for themselves" and end up remaking theology in their own image. Sabellianism, Arianism, Nestorianism... These all occurred because someone read a passage and immediately assumed they had the correct interpretation without consulting the rest of Scripture or the wisdom of the Church. (Papists, on the other hand, replace Scripture entirely, and would believe any absurdly blatant lie of an interpretation so long as it's endorsed by the Roman See, but that's another topic.) So, maybe, instead of accusing those who are too busy, tired, or poorly educated to regularly read one of the most difficult books you can find on shelves today of lacking trust in our Lord, perhaps you should have enough humility to realize you probably aren't much of a Biblical scholar yourself. And, on the condition that you are, (which I have serious reason to doubt) it's only because you have been blessed with enough free time and intellectual rigour to devote countless hours to the topic. For the average layman, attending regular liturgical worship and differing to the opinions of professional theologians may not be ideal, but it's likely the best we can expect in this fallen world. God bless. --Acts 8:30-31 "If you are a theologian, you will pray truly. And if you pray truly, you are a theologian." --Evagrius Ponticus, *De* *Oratione* ch. 61

A great place to start is the BibleProject. Their videos are only a few minutes long, and they cover every book of the Bible and most major motifs. The problem most readers have is connecting the narrative themes of Scripture. Unlike what you might have heard people say, the Bible was not intended to be overly simple or understood by anyone at a casual glance. Instead, like any work of art, its volumes were composed by particular people with a particular audience in mind, both being ancient Israelites. Naturally, this has frustrated many generations of readers over the millennia, but that's true of many works of art. Only when you have the full story does anything resembling Christianity start to make sense, and you begin to see yourself as part of God's story. Anyway, hope it helps. Take care! :)

I just want to say how grateful I am for all of your religious videos. I was raised in a mega church founded by Kenneth Copeland (yes, the blowing Covid-19 away guy lol) where they mainly focused on growing wealth and heavily on tithing. After leaving the church years ago & other life events happening, I grew resentment & anger in my heart over my relationship with God. At the time, I thought it could never be repaired. Since watching your more religious videos, I’ve grown to have a whole newfound appreciation & love for God & His messages. This new relationship I have with Him is one of my own and I feel proud to be able to hold on to that & never want to let that go again. Thank you so so much for creating such amazing videos that helped me heal my heart to open myself back up to Him. @@zogwort1522 this is interesting. A lack of abuse in your life… odd way to say it but I agree 100 percent. When I was young I went to youth group with a friend and skateboard and stuff. I did well. Then studied science in college and had very liberal professors who hated god and truly pushed that on us and the company I worked for were all scientists and obviously most do not believe. So it was hammered in and of course at 21 I knew all the answers in life and become that smart 8th grader who has figured out that miracles are pretty out there and I know the truth of the world. Then of course alcoholism came in full swing that brought crippling depression and anxiety, and through many years of agonizing pain both mentally and physically I fell to my knees and accepted God back into my life. I mean it didn’t stop me from drinking and I still deal with it and other things, but it’s a hell of a lot better than carrying my cross in life alone I’ll tell you that. I would have never came back to God if I could have dealt with it on my own. I would have on my death bed I know I’m not brave enough to walk into death alone though. Faith is and odd thing. How we get there is pretty normal, through pain usually. It’s sort of amusing the more we know and especially recently with major leaps in science the evidence is becoming so staggering staunch atheists are even admitting ok… there is something. That maybe “god” isn’t really “God”, maybe they are someone else, maybe they don’t like being named, maybe they don’t interact with the world or maybe they do. I figured, none of us know, and I’m happier not making assumptions and that as long as I make good moral decisions, whomever might be up there will be content with that. I really love this. And I really love how you say you don’t empathize with the Devil but you feel bad in some way. Because that’s what I feel here. What I think the writer really wanted us to feel. He wanted us to know that Lucifer is a scared, spiteful child who is yelling at his ‘superior sibling’. He is Cain being angry at Abel once again. But this time it’s even grander. This is the one who led Cain to such hatred, and this is the one who god loved, just as he loved Abel. It just sounds like someone too prideful to take back a mistake, but too emotional to stop himself from saying something stupid. Lucifer wants to be vindicated, wants to be given a smidgen of remorse and some sort of apology, I think. That’s how it sounds. And you don’t want to feel bad for the devil… but you do. Because the Devil sounds so sad and human. He is tempting you to feel bad for him, and it kinda works. But even then, he doesn’t realize that the sadness we feel is pity for a being that fell so far. Pity for the screaming, immature child who can’t understand that they are in the wrong. And that, in my opinion, is brilliant writing.

Yes, this! It's sad because you know he won't change or ask for forgiveness, he can't admit what he did was selfish and wrong. If he were to admit that then he'd be admitting to God that he was right all along, that everything he's done up till now has been completely pointless(a kid throwing a tantrum). I think he knows this and is another layer as to why he'll never apologize, because it attacks his pride and he can't have that now can he.

I don't think the devil is supposed to be tempting, I think he's just having human issues which we as humans can empathize with. I'm not religious but if you want to we can take it a step further and say that our empathy towards the devil of all people, the original sinner, is just like how god says that he loves everyone, not just the faithful and righteous, in a way manifesting that within us. Which is I think the main point of christianity as a moral system, to be ready to love and forgive anyone.

Maybe the reason behind the humanization is to show Satan as a pitiful, sad being, and not as a stereotypical evil one. He won’t trick people as the devil, but he will trick people with personality. If we can recognize the personality, we can resist the temptation

Fun fact: According to my older sister, who is Christian, but has never read Paradise Lost, apparently when she was younger and would do her standard prayers, after she was done talking to God, she would pivot over to Satan and be like "Hey, if you just asked for forgiveness, I'm sure God would forgive you too."

Is it realy temptation when the pain we think he feels is actually felt by him? Master manipulator or not. Lucifer's pain, confusjon and dispair is rather real. He will use our reaction to that to his advantage. No doubt. But his dispair is true. And I pity him. As Im pretty sure god does too.

Thank you for these videos Wendy! It's a great opportunity you've taken to take this piece of literature that isn't exactly an easy read for the average folk like me and to retell it in and on a medium that's easy for us to access and understand. Thank you!

As a kid I kinda denounced my Christianity because it was just forced on me and because my church was very disrespectful about other beliefs, but the way you portrayed Jesus at the beginning really changed my view and peaked my interest. Put the whole Bible in a different perspective; to see Jesus as an actual person. The church I went to always made him seem like he was always just God's will and not his own person.

You should watch The Chosen. It's a TV series about the life of Jesus. Highly recommend.

There's a difference between a (mordern) Christian and a follower of Jesus' teachings, you dont have to label a belief or appreciation for the stories. Just food for thought:) always keep exploring and reading into more than what people read at you as a child. I'm not Christian btw for clarification lol

36:44 The image of Satan, in a bad rich guy disguise, leaning over Jesus’ shoulder as he’s looking at the giant buffet and basically saying, “and its kosher too!” is one of the funniest images I can conjure.

Hey Wendi just wanted to say awesome content, recently watched all your stuff on the divine comedy and paradise lost plus other sources and gave me some really thought provoking ideas about the faith in general, just comparing to my own views and life and have been considering reestablishing my own faith in general Christianity. I wanted to thank you for making this content because the way you explained adam and eves relationship before the tragedy and even how it came to be made me think of my own relationship and this feeling of bliss I feel with her and through which I’ve discovered a new layer of it that makes me want to be set on a better path and found deeper love for myself and her that I wouldn’t of been exposed to without your explanation/opinions on the paradise and paradise lost, so just thank you for your insights and being the stimulus to a mindset I am beyond grateful to have now, I know it might not have been your expectation/goal with such subject matters but just thought you’d like to know the good that’s come of it, God bless and keep up the amazing work!

I am not a man of faith, but my family has been heavily involved in the church since well before I was born. With this, Paradise Lost, and some of your other more religion-centered videos, I have gained a good insight into how to discuss certain topics with my family on (a slightly) more even footing. Thank you Wendi!

My favorite idea that I've heard from one of his videos was from Paradise Lost, at the end where the angel takes Adam to that mountain and shows him all the history between him and Jesus. I know it's fiction, but if it were true, then it would imply a beautiful piece of theology. It would mean that the hope of Jesus has been around from the very beginning like a flame. For as long as there's been sin, there's been the hope to counter it, and humanity has *always* had the choice between the two (besides the first few minutes outside the garden).
