@@shadewolf0075 It isn't Raleigh Clay by his own words using a recording is implied to have fled Appalachia with his remaining family when it became inevitable that the scorched were going to take everything. The Enclave were well and dead by that point to my knowlege and I doubt Bethesda killed him because leaving him alive means he may be used as a future returning character for any Free-Stater update so why its debatable he will return I doubt he will ever be made KIA either,.

Imagine a fallout game where your are living in a free stater bunker about 40 years after the war and the enclave comes back to “finish the job” and you have to get revenge against them and stuff.

Its perfectly reasonable to have some undiscovered free states bunkers only just open up and return as a faction. I'd love to see them as a challenger although weaker to the Brotherhood like before they were wiped out

I think there is probably some truth to this maybe not like 100% confirmed but Appalachia is mentioned in Fallout 3 as to having cultists that worship the eldritch horror that's mentioned throughout the games. Maybe a future version of the Mothman cultists? It's possible they take over Appalachia eventually 200 years forward sending other factions fleeing from Appalachia and moving to other locations. Either way I'm all for bringing back the Free States they are really cool! Something interesting is that there are some symbols from the Union of the Pitt on some of the new free states items. So maybe? Since the union probably didn't exist at the time they were wiped out? :)

@@rickyfrench6844 Been trying to find it but I think it's from an RPG book it's mentioned somewhere it might be cut content as well. Pretty sure it's mentioned in one of EpicNates videos. I'll have a look through them but it'll take a while.

That would mean Bethesda carried or had competent writers which unfortunately they don't on either cases so thus it will be the same groups until fallout is no longer profitable where it will be sent into an old folks home like Joe Biden should be

I mean, to be fair, various local militias popping up pre-war just makes sense. And stopping to think about it in context of the setting, it becomes fairly obvious that Free States and Slags were seperate but formed for similar reasons.

@@Biotear I'm not questioning the possibility of the two things being related, I'm upset with the fact that the fans are the only ones that care about the lore of the games, Bethesda should care more about the world building of their games. Like with caps, I consider the massive east to coast trade rout is a good theory to explain why the east coast uses caps as a currency. The problem is that it's only a theory, Bethesda never explained that even if they could do it easily.

Pretty good arguments and theories here. I'd love to see the Free States return as a militia group to expand Fallout 76 and create a possible 3-sided conflict as a result of it.

The problem with that is why? To fight what enemy? The Enclave isn't really a thing anymore in 76. Maybe to team up with the Brotherhood and destroy the SBs?

The Super Mutants really are the only major threat in the game, unless they either fight the Brotherhood for a silly reason or an outside force is encroaching upon Appalachia. Any of those could be a possible answer to why there'll be conflict.

I havent watched you in I think a year, I swear you never miss. And the Free States should be in F76. They're a good alternative to the Enclave (the "evil" US), BoS (the US), and the Raiders (anarchy, if they even count). I always thought 76 went too light on story and didnt give the player enough options. Don't want either Enclave or the BoS - too bad.

If the enclave do return it will be hard. Maybe it will be a single squad that Modus asks not to kill us vault dwellers. This can add a brotherhood/Enclave reputation bar next to the raider and settler one. Maybe there can be a war event/ raid like nuclear winter. The lobby is accessed in world and it pulls from the entire player base so that you cannot coordinate. You are only afforded gear given, everyone is on equal footing. In the end there could be different game modes.

I would like to see a mainline fallout game where you can either be a part of the enclave, join them and complete a story where they actually win in the end. I know they are evil and flawed, but in the post apocalypse that is sometimes necessary. And no brotherhood of steel in a game. Maybe a redemption arc where the most corrupt and evil parts of the enclave are eliminated could be included. But other militia style factions should be in fallout no matter if they are alive or dead.

The Scag as Free State co-belligerent would actually make sense. Only way to really work this into another game, short of revisiting a relatively stable area already covered, I can think of would be a pre-war advisory/email/etc. that mentions both Slags and Free State as rebel organizations.

Actually before the war the country was rife with organised crime with gangs from New York and across the country seizing the opportunity and vacuum of the war. The wv national guard was wiped out by raiders, New York federal reserve was robbed and serve gang wars in San Francisco etc. the government instead decided to co-exist with these criminals rather than crackdown. Which will explain the raiders rapid rise to prominence in the wastes and why the government and army didn’t secure areas post war.

The ultimate fate of Appalachia has to be the 76 residents just nuking that whole region into a hellscape. There’s more than enough player data to show that every place eventually got nuked. Otherwise, Fallout 3 and 4 wouldn’t really make sense, because Appalachia would be the safest, most abundant place around. 200 years after the Vault 76 residents build on every inch of land they can, and constantly slaughter and monsters that show up? It’d be a paradise compared to everywhere else on the northeast coast.

@@silent_hunter515 kinda, originally it was one slowly expanding chapter that every so often sent an expeditionary force to some far flung corner of the wastes in search of tech. this is what the widwest(Chicago), east coast, and Mojave chapters are, break aways from the main west coast chapter. but in 76 they changed it so maxson sent out some kinda bat signal to tell other isolated military cells that managed to survive the war (dunno how he knew that) that they should like preserve tech. idk bethesda dropped the ball so fucking hard having the BoS in 76

Idk much about the faction but I guess it's possible that most pre/post-war anti-government movements like the slags could've join these "free states" even if they weren't part of them in the beginning (or ideologically similar). I wonder if they had Chinese support though. I know they are supposed to be an independent group, but with that many Chinese agents in America, it wouldn't be rare that they could've vastly supported or funded these rebel groups.

5:26 honestly this doesn’t need an explanation. The Usa was Nuked and the Enclave was very small. The only members of the Enclave were high profile politicians (i.e the president, Cabinet, senate leader.), some of the 0.01% (even Mr House wasn’t in the Enclave and he was a billionaire.), the top scientists, and the upper structure from the Us military (theres actually alot of generals and marines from the army but still would be a small minority of the gigantic American Army and a remanent of that minority because it was post WW3.). Thats a very small amount of people that would even be invited to join the Enclave and we have to assume none of them turned down the offer or were killed in The Great War. Its understandable why the Enclave would be crippled because they were not only small in numbers but most of its members would have lost most if not all of there influence they once had.

Nah, I like the flag. It's a nice reference to the in game flag of the USA, how they see it and what they think about it. Besides, light blue and black are a cool combination.

I agree there was and still is a lot of room for greater inclusion of the Free States into the narrative. To me the return of the FS to Appalachia is a no-brainer. The name Free States and government's reaction to them seems to suggest they were a nationwide organisation. I would have reintroduced them in an expedition. Seeing the FS in another state sets them up as a larger organization and then through the expedition narrative you can explain their return to Appalachia.

I've always thought the Fallout 76 original factions were cool and thematic editions to the wider world of Fallout. If only Taggerdy's Thunder (Appalachian Brotherhood) was equally as well done and didn't take up a disproportionate amount of the relevance.

I think it would actually *lessen* the impact of the idea of the Free States If there were chapters of it outside of what we've seen. They didn't seem to be in for franchising, but I could see Free States LIKE factions, but not the Free States themselves.

If you search up "militia" on google this is one of the definitions: "a military force that engages in rebel or terrorist activities in opposition to a regular army". The Brotherhood began as rebellion against the American government and would later engage in conflict with the Enclave (post-war American government).

Fallout 76 being the one that's only a few decades after the Great War is a complete waste. A game shortly after the War should have been single player and taking place in a the husks of a great metropolis. Not an idelic beautiful landscape.
