They should have had all the contestants meet with victims who were injured by distracted drivers, meet with family members who loved ones passed away because of a distracted drivers, and/or someone who has been seriously injured by their distracted driving and force them to listen to their stories. If most of them already got into real life crashes by texting and driving and they still do it then it's pretty obvious that the test course isn't going to have any effect on them.
@aliciaswofford9895 жыл бұрын
They had a driver named Aaron on season 7 who was nearly killed by a distracted driver. He was in the rehab show trying to get his skills and confidence back with driving. In my heart I thought they were going to bring him back for the distracted driving portion so the season 14 drivers could see what they could do if they didn't stop. I'd recommend binge watching season 7. It's eye-opening.
@NintendoBlurb5 жыл бұрын

He was actually wrong. solid line means "pass with caution" . A double solid line means "Do not pass". That's why on most country roads where someone might actually pass, the lines constantly switch to keep things safe. That being said, you still may pass a double yellow, as once again, yellow is the color of "caution", but only in emergencies. White lines are lines that are not to be crossed at ALL
@cooki_monstre92295 жыл бұрын
@2020 Cameron Woelk Ontario's Highway Traffic Act is the only act that doesn't specifically ban crossing the double line. Crossing it is not illegal - but it's still a lousy idea. "A solid line is a restrictive marking that is meant to signal to the driver that passing is unsafe," Nichols says - Begs the question though doesn't it. Why use double solid on country roads where people are likely to pass, if single is sufficient? Well, simple, it's because passing when there is a solid yellow line is fine, so they reserve use of the line for while in cities were your not likely to pass ever, although might need to when you get drivers going 20 in 50 zones, ex. - Also, they are in Ontario. @@just_a_girl5349 I agree; they should be teaching them braking without locking the wheels to increase front tire grip and to avoid in the safest direction, so long as the driving environment permits (obviously trying not to oversteer). Whenever I see the swerve maneuver I always question it's reliability on vehicles with a high center of gravity. As for the pivot point he right, but the thing to remember is that as soon as you get off the brakes the weight gets transferred to the rear which makes it want to push out and lose traction.
@ImThe5thKing4 жыл бұрын
Especially in my area where all we drive is pickups. You swerve a 3 ton, high off the ground vehicle, that thing is losing traction and rolling. We're taught to accelerate if we don't have enough room to brake if a deer runs into the road. That way, the front of the pickup actually points a little bit more up, reducing the chance of a deer going up and over your hood and possibly through your windshield.

It has to do with the fundamental issue of what it takes to squire a license in Canada. All this starts with inadequate schooling of new drivers. In the western world, Canada and the US, are the only two countries left in which getting a license is as "easy" as it is. There's a reason why every other country in the west have come to the conclusion decades upon decades ago, that proper training is needed. Add to this idiocy, that they are dealing with a "special" group of people here, a true bunch of azzhats. Why the state does not revoke their licenses after these shows, just shows how bad the problem really is.

Oh hey, they brought back Canada's Worst Parking Lot. That's the challenge I wanted to see Darris do before graduating him. I felt they should have rigged it so the others went in before him to leave him last and then stitch him up with the plant cars to see if he really can keep his cool. It wouldn't be fair to stitch him up while the other contestants are still there because of the risk of him flipping out at somebody, especially Karlene, for blocking or delaying him and I get that they couldn't really take that risk on his behaviour.

Me. Im actually a driver license clerk in my state, and if they were doing any of that shit here their driving privileges would be revoked. Revocation of driving privileges requires passing both the written and drive tests. Plus they would need extra mandatory insurance on top of their vehicle insurance for at least 4 years, and even after all of that it's possible for a judge or hearings officer to say "fuck no don't reinstate that shit." I'm thankful of these safeguards that remove and keep idiots like these off our roads.

In germany we learn NOT to swerve when a deer jumps in front of your car. Its so unsafe because of numerous reasons: 1. if you swerve to the right the risk is high that you hit a tree and then youre dead. 2. if you swerve to the left the risk is high that you crash into a car (if theres one) or 3. the deer keeps on running and you then hit it because you swerved into it. Its way safer to just hit the break as hard as you can and you may hit the deer but youre not hitting it as hard and youre not risking losing control or crashing into something.

I really think it depends on the situation. I have hit a deer once, and avoided many in 15 years of driving. Alot of my driving was on small country roads in the middle of nowhere. The key part of this that I think some of us are missing, is swerve if you know you can't stop.
@MacTechG45 жыл бұрын
lilsammywasapunkrock; yes, it is dependent on situation, the scariest situation I encountered was the following; I was being tailgated by a masshole in an Audi on a 2 lane rural Vermont back road (rte 100 by the Mad River), when he went to pass me, as he drew parallel with me, a deer jumped across the road! We both slammed the brakes to avoid the walking venison, and the deer escaped unharmed.... ...but wait, it gets better... The masshole dropped the hammer to complete the pass, then immediately swerved back into my lane, cutting me off....and SLAMMED THE BRAKES! I had no room to brake, thankfully instinct took over, the other lane was clear, so I swerved around him, then back into my lane, putting enough passing distance between us, then pulled aside to let the masshole pass, as he barreled off, I got his plate number and reported him to the state police, let them deal with the asshole. The swerve and avoid technique saved my bacon.. Mmmmm....bacon!

Let's hope Jen is finally going to grow a brain and stop enabling. She needs a slap. I think she just can't take it that her little boy is grown up and wants him to be a baby that she can mother forever. Her saying "Can we not have that on camera?", tells me she doesn't care. Sounds like she's where Darris gets his personality from. Let's hope for the best.

Women are naturally biased in favour of their children. The problem here is that Jen can't keep her legs shut and thus can't give her kids a consistent father figure who can correct that bias, hence one murderer in jail and then this fucktard. Crime, violence as well as self-harm is rampant among children of single mothers. And the other women on the show are putting their kids on the exact same track.
@baddriversofmoosejaw86815 жыл бұрын
As I said, Jen reminds me of my mother. I have 2 younger brothers, who are thankfully the only siblings I have and my mother enabled them, especially after she and my asshole father finally divorced when I was 18. She would just go to work and then run off to the gym when she got off. If they bothered her enough, she'd give them money and even expressed she thought it was funny the first time each of them came home drunk. She'd just say, "It's a phase they're going through, they'll grow out of it." Wouldn't parent them and would say, "What do you want me to do about it." Dad tries to say she's had so much stress in her life. She brought it on herself. She made the decision to have 3 kids. She had my brothers when I was 6 and 9. She made the decision to date and later get together with an asshole, that dropped out of high school, is an abusive father and doesn't like to work. Took her 20 years to get her head out of her ass and dump him. I remember confronting her about all that and said, "Why did you go with him, why did you have 2 more kids, when we had enough financial problems as it was, lived in a cramped 2 bedroom house and dad had lost his job and wouldn't get another one? Did you think someone was going to wave a magic wand and we'd be back in the Fabulous 50s and Swingin 60s again? What's the matter with you? Why would you have more kids than you could afford?" She just got all mad and sulked. That's why I'm not married, or even have a girlfriend and don't have any kids. What for? So I can have all the same problems and stress as my mother and look stupid? No thanks. I'm single, I live alone and go through a lot less stress than when I was a kid and especially a teenager.

When I was being trained as a professional driver, I was told to hit the accelerator right before impact should a deer jump out in front of you so that the front of the car would be raised and you could run it over instead of braking where the front of the car will be lowered and it would roll over your car or possibly through your windshield, or swerving where you could lose control.
