Whether you're starting from Port Bamfield or Port Renfrew, it's fairly safe to say that this is the most tedious part of the trail (other than the ladders of course). This is about 3 kilometers outside of Port Renfrew and the trail is just loaded with roots, ruts and elevation changes galore. This also happens to be the highest point on the WCT and you can definitely feel it. I happen to like the North to South route we took, I'd rather deal with this end of the trail with the lightest possible packs....but I get the argument for the South to North route as well. In any case, this is what the trail looks like just outside of Port Renfrew.
