This scene (from West Wing episode "In Excelsis Deo") has been missing on KZfaq for far too long.
"I guess there weren't enough beds for Walter"
... gets me everytime.

The other guy promising to make sure George is ready on time destroyed me. He was looking after George. He refused to take money from Toby even after Toby told them he was an influential person. I wish we learnt his name too.

Richard Schiff's facial expressions, hand gestures, and pauses when he says "You don't know me, but I'm an in... I'm an influential person, I'm a very ... powerful person." is incredible acting. It tells so much about Toby's inner conflict about arranging the funeral and also looking like a show-off, yet knowing that this is the simplest way to explain the situation to the other guy. It tells the audience about the weight of the privilege he feels he has. It's hard not to be touched by that.

You can see Toby's hesitation as a 'powerful and influential person'. There are several levels to that. 1.Despite his influence and power he can only do so much for these men. 2. Because of his influence and power he shouldn't be doing this. 3. He doesn't want to be arrogant to these men who have nothing.

Also, suddenly having money makes the guy vulnerable. Without money he is the same as everyone else. He has nothing. With money he is different. He has something that can be taken. It makes him a target.

It always struck me how the other man wondered if Toby wanted his jacket back. Toby is so focused on giving something to this late vet’s brother. You can clearly see this man isn’t just a bum or drunk. I can see why Schiff got an Oscar.

Im not big in that whole army life. But when the President confronts Toby for arranging a guard of honor on his behalf (holy shit, I feel some federal crimes were committed arranging that) , Toby let the president know how he felt. And he said something along the lines of "It could make all veterans to come out ..." and he's cut off by Toby and he says "I can only hope Mr. President" shit man. it really strikes a chord with me.

The prelude to one of the very best sequences in the entire series: the actual funeral scene, interspersed with the "Little Drummer Boy" being sung by the boys' choir in the White House. Powerful stuff!

Something folks don’t pick up on here, 1. The generosity of the poor to others. 2. The revelation of who Toby is at his core. This whole episode moves me to tears each time.

Fact is that Toby was sometimes a jerk but mostly he was a good guy.

Toby is a jerk so he can close himself off. If he opened up emotionally, he'd break down and cry because he's the most sensitive person on the show.

toby's a jerk because he's so smart and so right literally always. he's literally so smart he's never wrong. so when people dont listen to him, and that happens a lot, he becomes a jerk.

When he's about to leave the west wing and head to the funeral, Mrs Landingham says she would like to come and grabs her coat. I absolutely adored this episode.

Just watched this clip, and the rest of the episode, on Veteran's Day weekend, and was brought to tears knowing this is STILL the closest to reality for some Veterans today. How is this even possible?

It kills me that the other homeless guy who even with nothing of his own is still compassionate and generous enough to give money back to a guy who needs it to get home.

Heartwarming and makes for good TV but vets are getting their benefits challenged and cut from a whopping 6% to something even smaller and more degrading. Creating a character in the White House who cares about vets is on par for the show. Let's hope there's a real life counterpart someday.

@@locutus99 not trying to start an argument but here is only one of the things he has done for vets that is pretty great :) Mission Act of 2018 - the biggest and most comprehensive VA health care reform in decades. The Mission Act fulfills his 2016 campaign promise to, “ensure every veteran has the choice to seek care at the VA or at a private service provider of their own choice.” He promised that “no veteran will die waiting for service.” The Veterans’ Health Care Eligibility Reform Act of 1996 was the last significant reforms for VA health care, and it did not provide veterans choice in selecting their health care provider. President Trump has improved upon this existing framework in support of veterans most in need. Under the Obama-Biden administration, veterans had access to a number of dysfunctional community care programs, but only if the VA decided to allow them to go - the veteran had no say and no choice in selecting their health care provider. This led to a number of major VA health care scandals, including the VA Phoenix Medical Center wait-time fiasco, where veterans died waiting for their health care.

@@bencox7709 Trump also approves of all veterans to have their pain medication removed bc of the "opioid crisis" which is actually an ililcit fentanyl crisis created by China. Veterans have killed themselves bc this policy replaces medicine that some veterans have been on for decades with Tylenol and yoga. It's torture-I've lived it myself.

Why is it that Trump supporters ignore the cruel and hateful things Trump said about soldiers and veterans. He has never done anything for anybody but himself. If he didn't think he would benefit from something, he could not have possibly cared less about any other person.
