2016 Flintlock Deer Hunting Pennsylvania Frontiersmen. Follow video footage of a Revolutionary War Veteran and a Frontier Station Hunter as they deer hunt the western Pennsylvania frontier at the turn of the 19th century while searching for new lands to settle. This hunt took place in what is now Clarion county. War vet is using a .58 caliber while the station hunter is using a .50 cal flintlock muzzleloader.

Great video guys. Reminds me of the wonderful days of my misspent youth when we wandered the Ocoee WMA, floated the Duck And Elk rivers and camped on the Cumberland plateau in period clothing and with period gear. Many a happy day with some great guys, many of which have gone on. Thanks again.

Nice job I've been watching your guys videos for a few years and you not only hunt the right way but taught me and my friend who died in June different ways of looking at deer hunting keep up the good work guys we live in Eastern pa and it's good to see this still happening

Nice video. I live in NW Pa., Cook Forest, Jefferson County. My land butts right up against the National Forest. Out my back door and over the hill and I'm hunting. I love my Flintlocks.

That geography is the things my dreams are made of. Places like this, or geography from the film " Last of the Mohicans," that is the kind of land that fills my heart. Couple that with a traditional flintlock hunt, and it approached my concept of Valhalla!

Hell of a shot, I couldn't make that with a regular gun if I tried. I just late last year started reading a magazine about muzzleloading, an article about tomahawks is what got me to pick it up, and now I pick it up pretty regularly. I'd love to give it a try some day if I can every get the money up for one.

I really enjoyed watching this. Someday I'll have to get a flintlock; I usually just use my bow if I have a tag left over for late season. I've seen that video of you shooting a grouse with a fowler and wondered if you have done any more hunting with it? I've been thinking about getting a flintlock fowler or smoothbore musket so I can use it to hunt turkeys, small game, ect as well as use it in the late flintlock season with a patched roundball. Do you think a smoothbore could be used as a decent multiseason gun? Thanks again for the video!

Do you have a blooper reel where your cell phone rings as you're stalking the deer? No seriously, I really enjoyed this video. It looks and sounds authentic in every way. Personally, I like the absence of dialogue.

Thanks! No we do not have enough footage for a blooper reel. We keep our phones on silent when we are hunting and somtimes we dont take them with us since we have no service most of the time. If I had enough blooper footage i would surely be making a video. possibly someday.

Fantastic video, what are the secrets when using a flintlock in different kinds of weather? Rain, breezy or windy, snow; I have a .75 cal Brown Bess and love firing it but if there's a slight breeze it blows the sparks away and miss fire. What tricks can you give me. Thanks Dave O.

Thanks! As for tips for shooting flintlocks in weather. I wouldnt think a slight breeze would blow off sparks. a strong wind yes, and possible but I wouldnt think a slight breeze. Tips would be to try using finer grain powder for your flash pan. I know guys who use 3F and have struggled in weather for a spark to land on the bigger grains of powder and i have witnessed it before on hunts that I was filming. Try going to 4F powder if you dont already. Also, check your flint. You want lots and lots of spark. You may not need a new flint but you may need a different kind of flint to get good spark. They are more expensive and they dont last as long, such as an english flint, but for a hunter its a must to make sure your gun goes off. as for rain and snow you can use a leather cover over the pan and take it off when your ready to shoot. I usually keep the lock under my armpit to keep snow and rain away while I am hunting. Usually in rainy weather one shot on a hunt is about all your going to get if your lucky. Last thing is maybe to check your frizzen if the other two dont help and it might be shot out which is rare unless you shoot alot. Other than that, those are the best tips I can help you with. Hope this helps.

Your videos are awesome! I just moved to ohio but I still hunt pa. I've flintlock hunted I think just about every year. I wanna get into the traditional look but not sure were to start. I really liked the one you put up last year. Maybe you could post an update video on what your wearing this year.
