Film begins with shot of two girls hitchhiking at the side of the road. Location unknown. They are picked up by a man driving a large lorry who makes a joke about the girls not waking the horses - we see that he actually has a racing car in the back of the lorry rather than horses. Van has the words: "British Racing Partnership Limited" painted on the side. Driver, the driver's mates and girls are seen in the van. They look at some photographs. Van makes its way down country lane and along a sea front.
Various shots of a motor car race follow - Grand Prix Monaco 1964. Includes mechanics working on cars, shots of the car race, cars pulling into pits, etc. Footage of racing car drivers after race in Nurburgring.
Library footage of early car races. Various car racing footage including crashes, rallies, vintage car racing, good shots of large crowds watching races, great footage of a rough road rally race, glamorous girls have to bounce up and down in the passenger seats to get cars over bumps! Banger racing. Amateur car racing. Car construction lines. Racing drivers having fun with dolly birds and engaging in other sports. Great shot of one of the drivers having suntan lotion sprayed on his stomach.
Following racing personalities are seen in this documentary: Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Innes Ireland, Jack Brabham, John Cooper and Colin Chapman. Some of them are seen away from the racetrack - relaxing at home etc. Graham Hill is seen at home with his children - one of whom is presumably Damon Hill. Jack Brabham is seen piloting his own plane. Following cars are seen in this documentary: Vintage Bentley, 1914 Renault, Mini Coopers, Ford Cortina's, Lotus 25's.
Narrator talks of democratising the sport - letting everyone have a go by producing cheaper cars for racing. Also of the advances in car design that come from developments made car racing. Reel one ends with shot of an ambulance being driven away from the camera as narrator talks of the dangerous side to the sport.
Various good shots of drivers preparing for a Grand Prix. Narrator mentions John Surtees - we see in his car. Other drivers and mechanics are seen including Graham Hill and Jack Brabham. Good shots of the race follow including some material shot from inside one of the cars.

Excellent stuff. I am lucky enough to have seen most of these drivers and cars race having caught the bug in 1961 when just 13 years old. Since then I’ve worked in the industry and been a keen follower of Endurance , Grand Prix, Saloon Car racing and Hill Climbing at most major circuits and still get a thrill.

JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio and Senna about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark. This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

Clark was always my boyhood idol, the one I always wanted to be like, it's a tragedy he left us way too early. But as great as he was in the small displacement cars, the competition narrowed significantly as displacement increased and his record in big bore sports cars was nothing to write home about. It's sad he didn't live to drive the Can-Am series to fill this void in his driving history.

Even in the desaster called Lotus 40, a truly heavy prototype, Clark showed his genius. Chapman don`t want seriously sports cars, after his trouble with the officals at Le Mans. He was out of this world in every car he drove - Jim`s unique smoothness allowed the BRM H16 engine in the Lotus 43 his sole GP victory, and the fragile brandnew Lotus 49 in `67/beginning 68 was only in his hands able to win four GPs ....@@rickden8362

In one of many books on Clark that I have is probably the most amazing instance of his abnormal ability. When the team were tyre testing (Land Rover, trailer, Chapman and two mechanics) the car, out of sight of them, went silent. They jumped in the Land Rover to recover the car - no sign of the car , but some circles of rubber signifying a spin. They went thru the gap in embankment which lets vehicles into the infield to find Jimmy getting out of the completely undamaged car. They marvelled at the presence of mind and incredible ability to rescue the situation and fit the car through the narrow space. Later on in the day it went quiet again - same tyre marks, same result. Unbelievable.

Things were better before cars carried advertising (rolling billboards) and had downforce devices (like upside down wings)...and tires lasted four races...

Wonderfully nostalgic. I was too young to appreciate this era, but my elder brother was obsessed and piqued my interest. Thanks for posting this brilliant footage.

15:00 "He'll be back, if he can". Rather cheerfully glossed over line referring to the 2 in 3 chance that a driver had of dying back then.

You could have used the term Commonwealth so people would not nitpick over the term 'English' Aside for that, thank you so much for uploading this treasure trove.

Hark at this lot getting upset about the whether it's English or Scottish or whatnot. 😁 Pretty sure anyone watching knows who's who. And considering it's a Dutch channel I think they've done pretty well.
