This is a fantastic video for Westie parents! The thoughtful, knowledgeable process that you understand and this groomer utilizes are simply the best. I have loved 3 Westies and have found it very difficult finding groomers for my sweet boys here in the U.S. in the areas I have lived in. You really are the best Westie mom! 💜🌻💜

I've had 7 Westies through the years. Grooming the pads, underbelly and privates first makes a lot of sense. In my opinion, some Westies get bored and lose patience as a grooming session progresses. They can get a bit anxious and even nippy so doing sensitive areas first leaves the easier part for the westie for later in the session. This groomer is A#1 in my book, considering the comfort of the dog first.

Such a good price! We used to pay about S$150 in Singapore! But since moving to Thailand I couldn’t find a hand stripper so have to get shaved now. Although my humans like it too, it’s a lot more silly than typical corse Westie fur, but even when stripping my sides were silky too 😊

My Westie is 5 years old. He never is hand stripped. We were told it could be painful. He seems to do OK with regular cuts. Sami is lovely. Enjoying your videos.

Hand stripping isn’t painful. It’s all about if the pet parent wants their terrier groomed the traditional way or free styled.

Possibly the cutest dog I’ve ever seen. May also be saying this because my Westie mix’s expression looks exactly like Sami’s, LOL. What an awesome little guy! I also like my dog’s ears longer than a traditional cut-she looks just like a stuffed animal. Very proud of him for being patient and you for being a great dog parent. :) I hope you have an amazing weekend ❤

Your Westie is lovely! So calm and well behaved. My Westie Max is a nightmare when groomed, especially when they get to his 'private' areas, he is having none of that - fangs and claws are definitely in evidence!!🤣🤣

Haha, Sami gets like that if they try to clip his nails! Once our groomer tried to put a muzzle on him 🙈😟 and we had to stop because he still wouldn't have it. Every dog has something they hate. Ideally they should be handled a lot as puppies, to get used to it, but even so... Sami still has one thing he can't stand. For this reason I adjusted and now file his nails instead of clipping 🤷🏻‍♀

Sami really is such a good boy! Great video. It's nice that groomers over there are open to you staying & interacting during grooming. Here in the US groomers don't really support the owners staying. I have 2 Westies-Bentley a 12 year old, and Shelby 5 months. Just took Shelby in for her 1st haircut & I asked if I could hang out and she said she'd prefer to just text me when she was done. I can't find anyone where I live that will do hand stripping (which I wanted to stick with) and I'm not up to it so I gave up and just have them clipped so I don't get to have that course outer coat. I pay between $50-$75 without hand stripping.

Thank you Barbara! 💕I heard this too and that's why I decided to film this, I thought it could be interesting for dog owners who are not allowed inside. Wow, it's expensive for standard grooming. But I totally understand why you gave up on stripping, it's not easy at all for a non-professional (I tried once and it was the first and last). For older pups it's also not advised to keep them there for so long (our groomer's 14 year old Westie girl gets clipped now because it's too much for her to stay on her feet for so long) 🙂

I thought it would be more expensive than here. I used to pay 35 up until this summer 😅 then Sami's groomer raised the price to 40, which is understandable.

Unbelievable amount of detail and attention! We live in Dallas, TX and get non of this! They just shave my baby and give her bath for $100 and we have to pay at least 15% tip too!! I am 😡

Here in Finland it costs me 70€ 😅 , my sister in Spain pays 40€ for the same things they do here to my dog!! Crazy!

You don't really have to. But the groomers will tell you that you do, just like hair cutters for women. It's how they make their money.

Mya went to a groomer first time 2 weeks ago she git a shave .😢 i didnt recognise her when i went to pick her up. She just got the clippers and thays it ! Thanks it grows back .i bought a grooming set .i will try next time because this groomer is useless she had no clue. I paid 160 pln =36 euros it took 1 hour for cutting of nails. Shaving and bath..the only thing .Mya smelled so nice for a full week !!! 😊

I get my Westie groomed every five or six weeks. My Groomer has a trailer that is pulled by a truck and comes to my house. She spends around two hours grooming him and his fur is soft after grooming, so stripping is done. He has no problems with her as she has groomed him for 10 years. Cost started at $60, but over the years it runs now at $90, but worth it.

Be careful striping hair from ears as not all dogs tolerate it. Also if the the ears are ok I would suggest leave them alone if they are not too hairy…..as it is now know that pulling hair can cause inflammation.

I actually felt sorry for the dog and groomer watching this. You get the exact same outcome by using clippers and the correct combs and it saves the poor dog being held captive for 3+ hrs - a ridiculous amount of time to subject a dog to for a groom. Also a spritz of perfume can be applied to the bandana instead of directly to the dog.

Actually it's not at all the same with clipping or scissors🙂 Hand stripping is pulling the dead hairs out from the follicle, which helps with skin conditions like dermatitis (which Sami has) because it allows new hairs to grow fresh. When you clip or trim, the dead hairs remain there and the follicles stay clogged and can get infected, which makes the dog itchy. This is the reason why I choose to pay double and spend 3 hours for stripping, because it's actually better for Sami. About the perfume, I think Sami really wouldn't like smelling of something other than his own scent (and the shampoo already has its own subtle perfume which I suspect he also doesn't like). So no perfume for us 😅

I didn’t see a Westy skirt and I don’t like the ears so long his face didn’t look round like a Westy normally looks I like the striping she did, that’s just my taste

He looks great no matter what. But sheesh, what an ordeal for him to have to go through all of that. Not worth the aggravation for him. Just let him be a real dog.
