A lot has changed in the UK since the 70s. The decline of the heavy industry, unemployment, the Thatcher era with the Falkland war, ect. ect. Entering the EU, the end of the Northern Ireland troubles, exiting the EU. The only thing that didn't change was the Queen, really. Well, until last year.

I've seen videos like his before and often foreigners say "London" because many go to London and don't actually venture far outside the city which is really odd because its not a huge country and it's so easy to get around. obviously if your only there for a few days I understand that.. but London is just a big city like any other. there is so much more to see. 3 other entire countries!

I must admit in my youth I had little regard for our royal family, whereas now I view them with great respect and fondness. I think they are huge assets, with so much fascinating history linked to them, and I like that we establish long term familiarity with our Heads Of State. To me they are irreplaceable, and I bear no resentment whatsoever for the £1:29 per year that I contribute to them.

There is a few who want to abolish the Monarchy but majority are still Monarchists (including me). I look at republics and the alternative doesn't look appealing: Trump, Macron, Putin, Berlusconi, George Bush....

I’m a royalist and think they’re good for the country and they bring billions of pounds in to the country because people want to hopefully get a glimpse of them. There are people who don’t want them and want a republican government but that would be the worst option personally we would lose our identity. Times have changed here in the U.K. not always for the better and we are going through an election at the moment too. The bad teeth thing is rubbish!! Like any country some people have bad teeth and a lot don’t. Things are rough in the U.K. at the moment but with a new government hopefully things will change and improve.

Interesting fact. The British colonies gave Americans the accent they have today. It's transatlantic. The so-called standard accent was the standard transatlantic accent between America and Britain.

As a child in the 60s and 70s growing up in England, the memory that stands out most was the miners strikes. There were power outages several times a day pretty much everyday and in the dead of winter you would be sitting around by candle light waiting just talking (remember that?). At the time it was very annoying and seemed like it was to be the norm forever. Fortunately, things got back to normal on the 8th of March when the miners returned to work and the power crisis ended.

Because if we're to abolish the Monarchy, our new head of state would become an elected head with all the pitfalls we see in other republics around the world face. A presidential system becomes not just political but personality based. One of the benefits of our system is our leader is solely focused on representing the nation, which in recent history, they have largely upheld. What you're suggesting is reforming rather than abolishing and it's fair comments. You wouldn't invent our system in today's world but we have what we got and I believe, as archaic as our system is we've avoided the excesses you see in other systems. And why I reference individuals, it's the warning of what could happen. I'm sure I don't need to go into trump or putin and what they've done during their periods. Berlusconi held his infamous bunga bunga parties with underage girls and yet Italians still voted him in. I personally don't believe a prime minister/ president system would end well for our country

My generation (gen X 1976) we are a fairly Americanized generation growing up on tv like the Cosby show, starsky and hutch, dukes of hazard, night rider but our country was still very very British, old ladies spoke like the queen and everyone was very proper. my parents grew up through the second world war and the blitz after being evacuated from Europe because we are gypsy, their parents were literally Victorians that saw the titanic. Childhood was strict, dad was in the army ,we were based in germany, Nairobi/Kenya africa , brother born in Africa . I should be a royalist through upbringing but no, I'm awake, Epstein didn't kill himself, hate the BBC and that our government got hijacked by the EU. Loved my country but wouldn't fight for it now. I'm one of many brits selling up and getting out before it becomes the middle west. The English dream is over , no more retiring to quaint villages and vintage cars and thatched roofed cottages where you can leave doors unlocked because you knew all your neighbours, nobody was a threat, even our criminals had a code of conduct (no innocents,women or children) it's a different world out there now, only thing to hold on for is the NHS now I'm getting old but that will change soon if people keep flooding here and we will be paying medical insurance so I'm probably headed for Bulgaria, Croatia to retire off grid rather than let what WAS England bleed me dry.👍

The Royal family has a small section of republican's and a small section of loyalists. Most people are in the middle. The latest polls suggest something like 70% like the Royal family but this changes. The Queen had very high approval ratings for many years of her 70 year reign. She was like your wise grandmother to many Brits. That's why people waited in line for over 15 hours to see her laying in state after she passed. I'm sure there were people in Ireland that celebrated her death but you've got to know the long unfortunate bloody history of Ireland and the UK to get why.

People's opinions of the Royal family is a mixed bag; for every person who is a staunch monarchist, there's another who hates them and just as many as both who just don't give a crap. The Royals went through a particularly low point around the time of the death of Princess Di when the sentiment was quite strongly anti-royalist. Prince Andrew divorcing Sarah Ferguson, Prince Harry dressing as a Nazi, Prince Philip's casual racism, Prince Andrew's association with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, Prince Charles' affair with Camilla have all been notable low points and how much Queen Liz had a role in contributing to things or holding it together is a matter of opinion. The TV drama you were thinking of was probably The Crown, which I haven't watched because I don't care what a bunch of priveliged figure-heads do.
