Story 9: No, no, _no_ the reader is very *_VERY_* wrong about the idea of national parts being nice places to get intoxicated and wander around. National parks are nothing like your average manicured local parks. US National parks are undeveloped rugged wilderness. They're places that will hurt you very badly if you do not respect the land or the animals that live there. There's a legitimate problem with people from outside of the US coming over here to visit US national parks and think that all the animals are tame and can be messed with. That or they'll wander into areas that are clearly marked with warnings not to enter and they think that it's only a suggestion.

Maybe it would work better at campsites and if no wandering happens. Still, I agree with you. This does not seem like the best plan.

In the UK trespass is only a criminal matter in relation to certain properties or if damage is caused. The traditional sign "trespassers will prosecuted" is called the wooden lie, because it is generally not true - especially given the "right to roam ' legislation.

It is more a right to sue, but the way our torte laws work, the property owner really hopes nobody trespasses as they are likely liable for any misadventure of the trespasser.

Just because you have a right to protect your property doesn’t mean you have the right to do whatever you want to protect it. A good example of this: If your coworker keeps eating your lunch and talking to HR doesn’t work, you can intentionally make something they don’t like, are allergic to (but properly labeled), or incredibly spicy. However, you cannot intentionally sabotage said lunch with expired food or laxatives, as that effectively turns your lunch into a booby trap. As long as you fully intend to eat your lunch, you are in the clear, but as soon as the intent becomes teaching them a lesson, it turns into attempted poisoning and/or assault. Petty theft looks significantly better than setting a booby trap with the intent to harm someone, and poisoning isn’t limited to stuff that can take lives.

For DUI: You can lose your German driver's license for cycling or walking *too* drunk. It's "participation in traffic", not "driving." Or at least they can order a Medical-psychological assessment (usually called the 'idiot test' because you already proved to be one by ending up there), which can result in that if you fail the test or just don't show up.

I've seen vids of people passed out in gutters and sidewalks in Germamy. The police just let them sleep. Is this not accurate?

@@reallyseriously7020I dunno man, but if you're a menace in traffic, no matter your (lack of) vehicle, because you're too drunk, you can lose your license 🤷‍♀️

Having practiced California state law as a licensed attorney for the first 15 years of this century,, I know first-hand that you can readily be arrested in California (and successfully convicted) for a DUI (operating a vehicle while being drunk or under the impairing influence of intoxicating substance(s)) while simply riding a bicycle -and is completely unnecessary that there be any showing of resulting, actual harm/damage/loss (or that the bicycle DUI was a cause of a subsequent, distinct legal violation)

8:00 Similar thing exists in Denmark Age of Consent, AND Age of Criminal Liabillity, the age at which you can be arrested and charged for a crime, are both the same age, that being 15, but from what i know you cant record anything (image or video) until 18, as it counts as childporn otherwise. Do recall the news mentioning a few teenagers getting into trouble over it. What kind of trouble im not sure, maybe fines, or one hell of a stern talking to, i dunno.

For the consent to search, it actually depends on the state. In general, the fourth amendment protects the privacy of an individual, preventing the government from performing search and seizures without warrants. As far as I know, it does apply to motor vehicles as well, but not during a lawful traffic stop or reasonable suspicion that a cime has been committed. Again, it varies by state, however NAL, so don't take this as legal advice. Please consult your attorney first people.

Ex-cabbie here. I got into quite a few arguments over the meaning of the yellow traffic light. You guys already know this, but for those who don't it means, "STOP unless it is not safe to do so." Another common law that you Yanks tend to break is the speed limit. Every mile over is a murderer! It'll only be a matter of time before traffic authorities install high speed fixed cameras that'll pay for themselves on the freeways. When it comes to parking signs, if the text is red, don't park there. On the notion of liquor, if you drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot!

A big one that's relevant in the news today is that you don't have to be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury for nearly all crimes. That only applies to capital crimes like murder. For most lesser crimes, a simple preponderance of evidence is sufficient. Such as when a former president tries to overthrow the US government on live TV, the fact that every news outlet in the world documented the entire thing, and that droves of his supporters are going to prison for that very crime, is itself a preponderance of evidence. (Point in fact it actually IS evidence beyond a reasonable doubt at this point, but it's not the kind of thing that even has to go to trial, so all the right wing republitards who are like "oh but there was no jury trial, therefore he's innocent" probably think they can away with unlicensed driving by telling the cop "I'm not driving, I'm traveling, and you don't need a license to travel."
