maybe they are members of one of the legions for the 2 lost primarchs. they got lost in the warp with experimental gear while under the command of their primarch were corrupted in such a way that the emperor removed them from the records.

You just made me fall in love with this chapter for my CSM alignment. I've been a GK main for a long time, and only started dabbling into other marines due to Primaris armor, resulting in a CSM kitbash for my new Kill Team. Between both of the possible theories for who the Warp Ghosts are inside, as well as my headcanon for my own squad being mercenaries for hire, this video was just spot on. Warp Ghosts ftw!!!

Love these videos! An interesting theory, definitely enjoyed it! I must admit though i am skeptical these are Fallen Grey Knights. I am more inclined to lean towards the second theory of that being time travel. Apologies in advance for the long reply. When a Grey Knight falls in battle, my money would be on their spirit turning into either a manifestation of a Legion of the Damned or they come back as an actual ghost- Grand Master Mordrak's brief back story really makes me question the 3rd theory presented in this video. In Mordrak's case, his fallen brothers manifested as ghosts to fight along side him and protect him when he was knocked out, and continue to do so on any battlefield he finds himself on. It would be great if the black library expanded upon his story and made this more concrete in the lore! The Blade of Antwyr is a unique daemon weapon and can't really be compared to other daemon artifacts, Antwyr took all 8 brotherhoods to subdue. It's on a level similar to Drach'nyen- with some speculating its a fragment of an ancient god. It is definitely potent enough to corrupt no doubt in my mind with that as the books about Crowe show how even his fellow purifiers even struggle with the blade. But since coming under the wardenship of the purifiers we know it hasn't corrupted any Grey Knights due to the caution the Warden have taken to distance themselves from their brothers. Another thing to keep in mind is that any artifact that can't be destroyed by Grey Knights are placed into the Chamber of Purity which is guarded by the Purifiers. If any brother not of that order enters that area, they get beaten by their brothers to ensure their safety. There are certainly artifacts in the 40k universe which can corrupt even a Grey Knight, Antywr is certainly one of them, however, i would like to believe a Grand Master or Brother Captain going after these artifacts would bring along some purifiers to deal with them. it's to bad there is no description of the weapons or armor the Warp Ghosts use, however, the images shown suggest a standard power armor similar to that of typical Astrates. According to the 8th edition codex, we know that that forge world of Deimos was moved from Mars to Titan and produces all of the Grey Knights weaponry, armor and munitions needed for war. They don't rely on any outside forge world for material due to the secrets they want to protect. If there was lore suggesting Warp Ghosts utilized Psi Weapons and nemesis force weapons, it would present a strong case they are fallen Grey Knights. Thanks for the Vid! keep up the awesome work!!

I think it’s safe to say that they are a long lost warband of the Sons Of Horus that hot lost in the warp after the siege of terra. This is supported by the fact that they have an almost identical color scheme to that of the legion, and they have been using possession on themselves like the Sons Of Horus did before Abbadon united them.

If these were grey knights that had turned to chaos, a chapter worth, that would be something I am certain Abbaddon or a daemon primarch would be aware of by now. It seems more likely that they would be a failed successor chapter or something like the Exorcists, fallen to Chaos.

My guess is warp ghosts are the dark reflection of grey knights. When a grey knight dies, a warp ghost is born, within the warp. With exceptions, such as recruitments...

Them being Primaris would be a nice twist. Everyone's wondering/hyped about weather or not we're going to get Chaos Primaris, when in reality, they've been here all along. It would be a very chilling and ethereal realization; quite fitting for a warband called The Warp Ghosts, the Ferrymen of the Damned.

Hypothesis: the Warp Ghosts are Grey Knights from _a_ future after the final victory of Chaos which I believe would explain the high amounts of Warp energy they contain as the Eye of Terror expanding to absorb all of the Milky Way galaxy would be an environment where such a thing would not just be possible but rather likely. The weakness of their souls could also be explained by such long-term exposure to the unique composition of the Eye. Alternatively it could be explained by Ferrymen surviving in such a condition for so long that the remnants of their souls were 'rekindled' by such exposure to the stuff of the Warp, after all the Warp is largely comprised of the souls of the inhabitants of the galaxy.

As for the Warp Ghosts, I think it's best to leave to mystery & chance encounters. Or such information will be squabbleed over by various factions of the Inquisition. The Legion of the Dammed, they are of the warp, however they are the Spacemarines' spirits seeking vengeance upon the traitorous Spacemarines. Plus one pissed of Ferrous Manus from the lore of the "Master of Mankind"

Regarding the claim that no Grey Knight has ever fallen to chaos, the Battle Sisters say the same thing...

I really like the fallen gray knight theory. I have a novel somewhere about a gray knight that was captured and taken to a khornite demon world. He eventually admits that he was mentally broken by them for quite sometime before he managed to regain his sanity and escape.

I'm a fan of the future Grey Knights cursed into Chaos idea. The idea that Tzeentch would abduct Grey Knight vessels and strand them so deep in the Warp for even a Grey Knight to fall both makes sense and explains their properties as ferrymen. Their internment into the Warp for millennia until their ultimate corruption at it's hands would explain the ability to safeguard and guide others through the Warp, as the long periods of time exposed would allow the study of Warp Currents and thr Wsrp Ghosts's mastery of traversing it.

I think they are 1000 Sons that fled deep into the deepest pockets of the Eye after their defeat in the Hours Heresy. That makes more sense than all.

THE OCCULUS IMPERIA RETURNS!

I have just started learning about 40k in the last month or two. I only learned about all of the successor chapters a few days ago, and did some digging into them and immediately was drawn to the Warp Ghosts. I feel like this is my chapter. How should I build them though? Based on your video, I wonder if I should build them with a mix of CSM bits and GK bits. How should they play? Probably similar to Grey Knights? It sounds like they're all Psykers. I did see an old post on Reddit I think where someone said they played Warp Ghosts as Black Legion rules. So, I have no idea what people would think was acceptable though. Would a group at an FLGS think it's cool for me to bring a customer Warp Ghosts army in that plays with Grey Knights rules? Or would they hate me immediately?

Reminds me of the Death Guards fate their resiliency was their undoing trapped in the immaterium and overcome. It's fully possible that a company of Grey Knights fell into a similar trap and were thought lost by the Grey Knights, and how they look today wouldn't necessarily raise any suspicions from the present day chapter.

Makes sense to me they would have come from the Word Bearers given that they were the first to go in and out of the Eye of Terror. As for their ghostly nature, and time line issues (which we've seen before) well, crazy stuff happens to people when they spend so long in chaos space like that.They do not wholly seemed ghostly either since they apparently need stuff: serfs slaves new recruits.

futuristic tec could also mean that they have some Dark-mechanicum brothers that laid theyr hands on tau tech.

Oh and one other thing, Grey Knights are from no Legion and no Primarch. They are solely their own Chapter separate from the Space Marines.
