I've done it 3 times. First was on a 1200 Bandit, tricky but did it ok. Second time was in a Hilux Surf, was behind an elderly couple who went up a shiny stretch in front of me in a small hatchback, I watched as the smoke poured off their tyres and they were still sliding backwards towards me. Luckily I had room to pull round them and drive up unscathed. Third time was on a Tiger 1050 or an FZS1000, I can't remember, but that was ok too. Best advice is to stay in 1st, never shut the throttle, never get too close to whatever is in front and there are cars about stop and let them get way ahead, or stop early and let them come through especially on those sharp uphill bends. For the uninitiated, it is all twice as steep as video makes it look.

Think that's a bad road? You must a city boy. Let me introduce you to Africa, Asia, South America, Alaska, etc. I drove that pass with the family last summer in my diesel Astra estate. Thought it was beautiful, but was stuck in first gear on the steepest bit. Next summer might go back on my beemer (R1200R). We stopped at the Hardknott bar & cafe (on the west side of the pass) fantastic pizza lunch and drinks. Right up my strasse! Nice film, will keep watching if you want to make more and interested in your views on the Goldwing.

Well done for achieving that ride. Did it a couple of months ago on my GS and that was nerve wracking enough. I also have DCT Tour. How was the throttle response? I hear a lot of goldwing riders complain it’s too snatchy at low speed. I don’t find this too much myself especially in Rain mode. What mode were you in for that? Keep making the great vids.

The k1600 and goldwing are very different!! I’m not even sure if you can compare because they are so different.. the goldwing is very much more laidback compared.. the bmw is faster, more agile and eager . The goldwing is more sit back and enjoy the ride with the engine bumbling in the background

I took my K1600 GT SE over it, on board footage here...kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oZOKnaZ9yOC0ZXk.html . Hardetst hing was keeping it steady on the tight apex high inline bends, the 1600Gt throttle is very eager and its a big bike to be feathering the clutch on..

@@alexwright1359 hats off, but this "road" is not quite the right one for this kind of motorbikes. I admire the courage, but I wouldn't take the risk , been there, did it, not worth it. Maybe with a pushbike, for the sake of the scenery , but the potholes don't offer this chance. It's just for ticking the box from the list, otherwise .... My 2 cents, folks .

@@mrts.bike.adventures Thank you, I'm looking at buying a Goldwing, And really struggling on which to get, i have been riding for 40 years and wondering if I would do ok switching to the DCT ??? Low speed maneuvers you always pull the clutch in and rev the engine and release as needed to keep pace. I will ride one as soon as I can find a dealer in northern California that has a DCT demo. I would like your thoughts as you handle that extreme rode well with the DCT, we have a extreme rode up to Mount Diablo here in my area very tight and twisty and Steep, i had to work hard riding up the rode on my RT as first was to low and second gear to high, it was a work out with my wife on the back. Thx for responding. Love your vids.

@@bayouboy8644 I’ve have all sorts of bikes over 30 years , I love the dct , I brought it without even trying it so it was the first time for me to .. and to be honest I don’t even think about it any more other than when I’m in slow traffic and stopping where it makes life a lot easier . It make the ride more relaxing and you can appreciate your surroundings. I can’t really think of any downsides if I’m to be honest , I believe it’s quicker than the manual as it has 7 gears and your passenger with have a smoother ride not feeling any if the gear changes .. i guess everyone is different though and I’ve never ridden the gear Ed goldwing . If you’re unsure you should definitely try the gear one first to get used to the bike and then try a dct one .. if I had to buy another it would be dct personally.. feel free to ask another question mate 👍
