Last fall we made a horrifying discovery: our beloved patio dogwood was rotted out and in danger of falling on the patio. We had to do the unthinkable, which was to cut it down. But this wasn't going to be easy.

Nice to get the help from your son. I always love it when my youngest son finds time in his busy schedule to come visit and help ole dad. I cherish those moments. Nice team work, Martin. Enjoyed the entire tree removal process. Sorry you had to take the old dogwood tree out but you won't have to worry about a future tree dilemma. I have a few more trees to drop now since I have a new metal building within walking distance from the house. Take it easy, my friend. Don 👍🏽🤠 03/04/24

Thank you, sir! Yes they are. That’s why things like this should only be attempted on KZfaq. Thanks for watching!

Nicely done, Martin. That’s one of the biggest dogwoods I’ve seen. “Hollow to the core, just like you” 😂

Great Job Martin!...With 25ac we have plenty of similar stories, although some should not be shared due to "Throwing Caution to the Wind" (LOL)

Thanks! The problem with throwing caution to the wind is the wind may blow it right back on top of you!

Well done Martin. I had a large pine that had died a couple of feet from my work shop. It stood straight up and wasn't leaning so it was pretty easy to drop. It was about 60 feet tall and I had a relatively small area in which to place it. Luckily it fell exactly where I intended it to fall. It was still nerve racking. Even after all of the precautions, you never really know where it will go until it is on the ground. Great video as always!

Thanks Marty! Yes that pine would sure be scary to cut down so close to your shop. Glad it cooperated with you!

Hello Martin! I don't remember seeing those areas on your property. It's absolutely beautiful! Too bad the trunk were rotten. Do you have any clue what caused that? That was not easy to cut those trees with hollow/rotten trunks. It was a good thing you saw it before it cause major damages. Well done! Thanks!

Hi Joe! That may be the first time I’ve shown our backyard and patio in a video. Thank you! We’re not sure what caused it but we were astonished at how fast it advanced from just a little rot where a limb used to be to being completely rotted out on the backside and even more surprised that either of us noticed it sooner. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks! Yes, it was and I’m quite frankly surprised it went as smoothly as it did given the terrible condition of that first trunk. Thanks for stopping by!

Many years ago, my father and I were cleaning the drainage easement behind my fence. Took down the fence panels and backed a trailer up so we could load debris easier. Started cutting on this one tree that was pushing the footing for my fence, which in turn, made my fence lean in. It was also tangled in the power line lead to my house, straight off the transformer. Tree was about 30+ ft tall and we didn't limb it before hand, just hinge and wedge like you did here. Somehow, we got that tree to fall perfectly into the trailer, without doing any damage to the power lines, the side fence or the trailer. One of those "I can't believe that just worked" kind of plans. So glad to see you up and about and tackling projects again. Hoping and wishing, you and yours are doing well!

Hey Mike! Yes, it had to go and we still miss it. That hurricane gave you plenty of trees to clean up or cut down before they fell down. I’m sure you miss them too. Thanks for stopping by!

Great job. I have a really large tree on my place that needs to come down. I’m afraid that it’s so rotten that as I make the cuts, the whole thing could start to disintegrate. I my just let the the wind take it down for me. Thankfully it’s not near anything the but a perimeter fence. I would rather fix the fence than have to fix me or any other equipment.

Thank you! Yes, when a large tree is that far gone, it’s best to let nature take its course since the tree is not threatening a building.

I wanted to remove a 12 inch diameter limb that was showing some rot and had grown over my house. I mentioned it to my neighbor and he was ready to go. He started to hook his mower up to pull but I convinced him to use my truck. I was able to stand on the roof of a storage building and reach thru the good part of the tree to make my cut. He started pulling so hard after I made my notch i thought he was going to break if off. I hurried my back and he took off with the limb. It easily cleared my house but he was not able to get stopped before he plowed a furrow across his stone drive way.
