You don't need me to tell you that its your car, and you need to do what you want makes you happy! I did the opposite and actually cut up an oval, when despite the oval being in such bad shape that nobody wanted it and it was destined for the crusher I still catch a lot of crap for it LOL! Keep doing what you do!

I own a 66 that was ovaled and 3 fold ragtoped long before I bought it. To me the dash 58 to 66 is the best looking. So I have the best of all bug attributes in one car. It also has a gas door from 68 on which is convenient as well as cool. I always wondered how the conversion was done, thanks for showing it!

This is SO ironic. My first car was a 57 VW with the oval window, and I HATED it. Old cars weren’t cool in 1967, and that oval window screamed “old car”. I wrecked it in January of 68 and removed the entire body, replacing it with a newer body with the bigger window.

A NM plate with a 505 in it is very cool to own. The reason being is that the 505 area code includes all the cool cities as compared to 575 for the rest of the state . It would be like having a 310 area code in LA .Many products in NM have the numbers 505 in their brand name.

I cut my 63 and put in a fiberglass split window kit. I took the origional deck and grafted steel to it and made a W deck with a recessed license plate. Anyway if i had the parts you had Iwould have done the same thing.

Fun project, it will start lots of arguments at the shows! I hauled a trashed oval out of the woods, back around '80, cut the same clip... Never got to use it, sold at a swap.

Swapping the back window is the easy part of making an oval the other differences to a 63 are harder to clone except on US cars which didnt get the larger front trunk and different front fenders in 63 like everyone else.

If it was one of the fiberglass things I would scream no but all metal sweet.

Are you sure it's a 63? I can see the semaphore slots behind the door? Maybe the pan is a 63, but the shell seems like its a 58-60 model.

I have a dream too but with a split back glass .I love it dude ...Back in the sixties and seventies you could go drag out old splits and ovals out of the woods fields and barns sometimes the owners would give them to you for free just to have them removed from their property. The reason the old splits and ovals are so rare is simply because of this ,they were cut up and turned into dune buggies among countless other variants based off the origin chassis and running gear lay out .. and if you have ever seen photograghs of scrap yards in the sixties seventies eighties even the nineties in some places of Volkswagens towering over head sometimes 15 to twenty crushed cars deep ,remember planned obsolescence has always been a contributing factor especially in the automotive industry """hence the coming referenced paradox"" apart from henry fords model a and of course the Volkswagen beetle which retained their overall mechanical and asthetical characteristics for decades while becoming the most mass produced cars of all time .The beetle was continually in production from approximately the late fourties up until the early nineties so in this case the paradox would be perceived under the premise of marketing mass production on an astronomical scale and an apeal that never depreciated or diminished. A testimant to the human spirit personfied in a little car that far exceeded not only what we expected but ultimately what we could have even imagined!! I've got a 1974 Bug and i'm hoping to get it resprayed next year but i'm wondering something. Is it possible to get the inside of the air vent beneath the rear window properly sprayed? (in it's lifetime it has been resprayed several times and it looks like a rainbow in there)
