Thanks for sharing this content! There is some really killing stuff in How to Hang. This will keep me busy in the interim before the Global Jazz Workshop. Dave, your solo over Black Orpheus is mind blowing. Your sound and melody is beautifully cohesive and well composed on a large scale. My favorite recording of Ryan’s was his take over Softly. Only one word needs to be said. Ebmaj7.

Hey man, I think this type of video is really really awesome. When looking at a transcription, there are so many ways to interpret what the player was thinking, so it's nice to hear the actual thought process of the person that played the solo. And when you were analyzing your solo I noticed myself wanting to hear the full solo. You might consider first playing the solo in it's entirety then going back for a second listen where you start the analysis.

Near the beginning you describe how you played a B major dominant 13 b9 triad over D7-Why does that work?
@DavePollack
@DavePollack 3 ай бұрын
B major triad is B D# F#. Over a D7, that’s 13 b9 3, which works GREAT!

Do you think you could explain more when it’s appropriate to use a harmonic or alternated scale over a certain set of changes?

We definitely talk about that in the analysis videos...harmonic minor and altered scales have their place, but they serve different functions.

Thanks! I’m currently struggling with playing outside the chord changes, any way I could make more tension?
