What would you suggest for leisure hike. I do local 3 mike hikes that are clearly marked. I’m usually out for 3 hours or less.

That is a difficult question because what you carry really depends on what makes you personally feel secure. Many hikers carry more and some less. I would recommend starting with a good backpack, water and some first aid basics. Going only 3 miles isn't too far in and you'll modify what you carry for every trail and season. What is most helpful on trail are skills. You can have a pack full of equipment but if you don't know how to use any of it it's dead weight.

@@hikermadness3400 thanks, I was thinking I should carry a basic first aid. Is it crazy to carry my id, keys and phone in a separate bag like a Fanny pack. I’m thinking worst case scenario and was attacked by a coyote and it dragged my back pack away
