The funny thing is... Borat is so unreal and ridiculous, that it made me curious about what Kazakhstan is really like. Prior to Borat, I knew nothing about Kazakhstan, and now after feeding my curiosity a bit, I really want to travel there and see it for myself. Anybody with a brain understands that Sacha's character Borat isn't really making fun of Kazakhstan, its moreso making fun of how people in the west view cultures in the east that they're unfamiliar with. If you survey'd some of the dumbest and most ignorant individuals in North America, and asked them what they think people in Kazakhstan are like, they might come up with something ridiculous and unreal, such as Borat. The fact that almost all of the movies film times takes place in America and focuses on American culture & American's reaction, highlights that these movies are more about showcasing American ignorance than they are anything to do with Kazakhstan. The fact that the American's in the movie actually believe this person to be real, is what really sets it off for me.

I think any American who knows that his real name is Sacha Baron Cohen, not Borat, now recognizes that the parts of Borat that are supposed to be Kazakhstan are fake. But Americans still love the movies, for this main reason: Borat is not really about Kazakhstan, it’s about America. It might present a fantasy about Kazakhstan, but it mostly presents funny realities about America. I think he chose Kazakhstan as Borat’s country because Central Asian is the part of the world Americans probably know the least about, so a person from Central Asia is the ultimate foreigner for us, but he didn’t want to create a fake country because we are just educated enough that he wouldn’t be able to gain access to certain events with the cameras and everything if he had said he was from “Abubakistan” or something. I think for the purposes of those films, it might have been better if the final product had only contained references to some made up country, because it’s obviously caused so much insult to the people of Kazakhstan who had no idea at the time that they were being used as a comedic scapegoat. The first film spends about 10 minutes total in fake Kazakhstan and the remainder in real places America, with real people who don’t know he is an actor.

People don't seem to get that movie is mostly him trolling Americans. The actor himself is British and Jewish. And if you watch the film he also makes fun of the Jewish. It's all in good fun we know that unless it's a actual documentary any depictions of a culture can be dramatized and exaggerated. Until borat came out I had no idea that Kazakhstan even existed. I think it's thanks to the film that it brought America's attention to Kazakhstan. Even though no one agrees with the depictions. You don't see him in actual Kazakhstan making fun of the culture instead he's pretending to be Kazakhstan and going to America and messing with Americans. I honestly think it's funny that he's messing with Americans considering I'm American myself. He brought attention to the glorious nation of Kazakhstan. Because before the movie came out I bet almost 100% of Americans didn't know Kazakhstan was an actual place. But after movie came out I bet you all of them looked up to see if Kazakhstan was a real place and wanted to learn more about the actual culture. So I say this thank you borat for bringing attention to the glorious nation of Kazakhstan! ^^
