Some abusers use a protective order bit of paper as an invitation to kill, to prove to her that a stupid piece of paper can't protect her or anyone she cares about. Each victim knows their abuser best. There are a lot of downsides to those orders of protection. Criminals don't obey the law; being one of the biggest. Being financially dependent on the person is another, you don't want to hurt yourself in the process
