What do You Think About Cold Weather Motorcycling?

This is Vlog#46 on this channel. In this episode we are going to chat about hypothermia, the unspoken and unaddressed risk associated with riding motorcycles in cold weather. I will give you some early warning signs of hypothermia as well as symptoms that appear once you are hypothermic. Last, but not least, I let you know what my layers of choice are depending on the temperature I am riding in.

I wear thin dirtbike style gloves because, stunting i need my fingers way more than the casual rider. Latex gloves underneath my gloves make a huge difference. I keep a bunch of pairs in my seat. That and a facemask under my helmet are mandatory in winter

I commute to work on my bike every day in SW Idaho as long as there is no ice/snow. The lowest I've done is about 10F, which was surprisingly comfortable with: a wool scarf (so similar to your neck gaiter), heated gloves, and a leather race suit. The race suit is probably not "optimal" but I can wear business casual under it and then just slip it off when I get in so 🤷‍♂it's surprisingly convenient. The heated gloves are really what makes the biggest difference though. I have a nice (expensive) battery-powered pair from Alpinestars and my fingers are positively toasty down to ~25, and still relatively warm below that. Though, the battery life kinda sucks on the highest warmth setting and they take a while to charge so if you would need them more than 2-3 hours in one day they might die on you.

Thanks for the comment and excellent information. I’m with you. The hands are the weak link and I just can’t break down and do heated. I will eventually. Props to you for riding year round where you live. I know how cold it gets up there!! Always ride safe brother!!

There was still snow on the ground when I bought my sled this February so I just threw on my snowmobile gear,it does a great job cause that’s the conditions it’s designed for

As a Masshole, I struggle to put my bike away for the season. To be honest, out of the 7 bikes I've owned over the last 14 years, I don't think one has ever seen an off-season. I've attempted on numerous occasions to put my bike away, but I always get the itch within a month and out she comes and out she stays.

I feel like a loner in a ghost town when its cold. Usually only see a couple adv bikes and the bad thing is we live in the south! People round here think 45 degrees is to cold to ride 🎉🎉🎉
