I love when a experienced person tries to force a mistake for demonstration purposes and the can't do it just because i'm too good, deal with it haha, great video, keep em' coming!

I love Bob's outtakes, I want to see this on TV! Bob and Tim Allen would make one hell of a pair with the Binford Hotstart 4000. That forced cold start technique is weird to see... Like you never even stopped and it makes me wonder who out there is truly using that feature to its fullest, new kids?

It's a great idea to have the audio fully panned out on the two mics. However make sure the person in the left side of the picture is in the left speaker and vice versa. Or just do a regular mono mix which is also fine. Thanks for another great video! =)

Besides the benefits you demonstrated of this hot start, Bob, would this help the newbie stick welder from sticking the rod especially if running at the low end of the electrodes amp range? Thanks very much!

Yes, it would.

If you have time for a quick video, could you take a pair of arc shots with 6013 rods? Same plates setup, just the effect on the arc with arc force and hot start and a quick comparison with 7018. Eg if the same setting applies or you suggest some changes. Thanks for your videos, each one teaches me something!

I guess I'm to old and so is my machine Bob, but like you I strike an arc, long arc it down to star and go. I guess I'm more out of touch this is the first time I've even heard of a "hot start", it's new to me... So thanks for educating me even though with my old machine (Miller Bobcat 250) which is not set-up for this feature.

Hi Bob, please help me with a problem that is driving me crazy. I'm using a cheap stick welder which does not have adjustable features like you demonstrate. Some cheap models may have a feature built in but it's not really spelled out anyway. So I'm trying to weld 18 gauge sheet metal and had no success with 1/16 6013 except for a tack on flat area, but I had some nice success with 1/16 6011. I run it kind of hot in fact it seems a bit like a flame thrower. My technique is to lay a series of tack like welds an ongoing bead would burn a hole right through. So I have a little trouble with a brand new stick being cold, but then it gets going good. However, after about three tacks it begins to stick again and again, I lose the ability to restart it. I also noticed sometimes when it gets going again after effort it burns entirely different, like very cold. I have put it aside on scrap and let it burn a while and it burns well again! Oh, welder is set at 60 Amps but being in 110 outlet it is probably only giving 45. Am I cooking the rod? Is it the welder? Would a machine with hot start help in this situation? I appreciate any help, sorry for such a long question.

@kf8575

Start 2inch ahead, quickly back to your stop/start then weld right over where you arced up. Works just as well if dont have hot start on machine👍 No pores on xrays that way. Not draggin back is always taking a chance?

put a brick on your work bench on top of a piece of wood. I tap the hot tip of the electrode into the wood to scoot back the flux slightly, then scratch the tip of the electrode on the brick to remove the little wood ash. Give that little tip a shot ...

I’m excited for the new AC/DC machine, but I wish it was a 235ic AC/DC not the smaller 205ic AC/DC. My luck if I buy the 205ic now the more powerful machines will be announced. I’d rather just buy a Miller Dynasty 280DX rather than compromise and get something I’m going to end up selling not long after buying. More Spray Transfer and Globular Transfer vids would be great. (solid wire & dual shield either 045 or 052.) Some monster single pass on thick plate, Filets and Grooves.

So if I put 50 % it’s 50 % above the amps u had it or it’s 50 % of the amps ur using ? I thought if I put it at 50% it was 40 , half of 80 , can somebody explained it
@itevensystems8860
@itevensystems8860 3 жыл бұрын
Manufacturers are idiots, all they need to do is to use amps value as hot start, this way its way less confusing and more efficient way of welding, no maths involved. Tired of idiotic people who have limited thinking.
@greglangley4518
@greglangley4518 Ай бұрын
It provides additional amperage initially. If the machine is set to 100 amps and the hot start is activated at 50%, the arc will initiate and operate at 150 amps for a brief period before reducing back to 100 amps. And yes, 50% of your 80 amp setting is 40 amps. The 40 amps are added to the 80 amps for a 120 amp start.

You're holding to much on your left side. That's why you got the droop on the restarts. Try a modified technique. It'll hold if you give it the time and place to fill.

hotstart is useless , because on thin stuff it blow it right through so you have to turn it off , so it can not help strick an arc , and on thick stuff you do not need it either , you just start slow , why cant they give us High Frequency HF start like TIG ?

ya your gonna set it perfectly in the center of the fillet. otherwise the hot stsrt is going to undercut the sides and youll blow out the start trying to fill it because its still in hot start? seems logical to me. but being Bob Moffatt you dont gitter and wack one of the sides like the guy been standing in the same booth in one spot for 3 years crying his kid(spoiledbrat) needs another $200 treat.. Honestly is it better and worth your time to set it on and use it?
